MTN Zambia says mobile banking is the key for the delivery of financial services in Zambia.
Speaking at the Chief Chibale Traditional Ceremony in Serenje district, MTN Zambia Chief Sales and Distribution Officer Amon Jere said it was important to use mobile banking services for the country to have a financially included population.

Mr Jere said in a press statement yesterday issued by MTN Zambia Corporate Services that only 37 per cent of the population was financially included in Zambia yet over 70 per cent has mobile phones making mobile banking a strategic solution in the delivery financial services.
He disclosed that MTN Zambia under the auspices of its Mobile Money platform has been discussing with Bank of Zambia on the need to promote mobile banking in Zambia.

“Our conversations with the Bank of Zambia highlight the fact that the Central Bank is concerned about accessibility to banking services especially in rural areas. This is a concern we share and as a leading communications solutions provider, MTN Zambia provides a solution through Mobile Money. MTN Mobile Money is a cash management service available on the mobile phone. It is mainly about facilitating mobile banking services for the Zambian market,” Mr Jere said.

He further advised the people of Chibale in Serenje to sign up for Mobile Money saying it would help them prudently manage their money.

“We have noted that the people of this area are a farming community. This means that they depend on their produce for sustenance. As with many small scale farmers in Zambia, the challenge is saving money once they sell their commodities because they are unbanked. A very significant number of small scale farmers is unbanked largely because their areas are not serviced by banks or they find conventional banking expensive for them. The safest and most convenient solution is available to all MTN Zambia customers through Mobile Money”, he said.
The company used its Mobile BTS to connect the area.

Mr Jere has pledged MTN Zambia’s commitment to providing quality mobile network in Zambia.
He said Zambia was developing at a fast pace hence the need to support this growth through communications.

“There is need to enhance mobile communication in order to boost development. MTN Zambia is a customer centric organization committed to the development of all Zambians and we are already looking at ways of enhancing our service provision to the satisfaction of all stakeholders,” he said.

MTN Zambia sponsored this year’s Chief Chibale ceremony which was also officiated by Home Affairs minister Dr Ngosa Simbyakula.
