UPND vice president for political affair Canisius Banda has described as grossly misleading the lead story in today’s edition of the Post Newspaper in which the UNPD is quoted to have referred to former PF Secretary General and Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba as a national Builder.

In the same article UPND Deputy Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa, who also the chairperson for the African Parliamentarians Network Against Corruption (APNAC) Zambia chapter, is also quoted to have said that Mr. Kabimba will be missed by stakeholders involved in the anti-corruption crusade.
But Dr. Banda told Qfm news in an interview that the said article should be disregarded with the contempt it deserves as Mr. Mweetwa did not say what has been written in the newspaper article.
Dr. Banda said as far as the UPND is concerned Mr. Kabimba has been a divisive factor in Zambian politics.
He said while PF Secretary General and Justice Minister, Mr Kabimba spent most of his time insulting not only the UPND and its leader Hakainde Hichilema but also the Zambian people.
Dr Banda said Mr. Kabimba should repent and apologize to God and seek forgiveness for his alleged offensiveness and arrogance.
Mr. Banda said the UPND is thus praying for Mr. Kabimba to become more humble and a better citizen, stating that his dismissal is a chance for him to reflect over his alleged bad deeds.
PF is a useless party to have existed. Incapacitated Sata is still mute after Chikwanda fired Kabimba.

This is very cheap from Canisius. Is aBanda speaking on his behalf or that of the party? Cornelius is the deputy spokesperson of UPND and whenever he speaks, and unless he clarifies, the assumption is that he is speaking on behalf of the party, that his position reflects that of the party. What UPND should have done is to let Cornelius refute the story, if it is not true, and state what he said and what he did not say point by point. To issue a general claim claim that UPND did not ‘praise’ Kabimba without showing us how the headline or the story’s contents were misleading is simplistic and reflects very badly on you aBanda. What does the word ‘praise’ mean to UPND?

Quoting individuals is typical of the Post Newsapaper even where people have not said something..and the more ‘prominent’ the individual the higher value attached to it. However it seems that high profile persoanlities are running thin and M’membe must be getting a little desperate. Perhaps so desperate that he is now running to party members of the party that he has “blacklisted” has nothing but tribal. The world is shrinking for M’membe and what is obvious is that his convenant with Sata is on shakey ground too.
Surely who can miss Kabimba over corruption fight? He is as corrupt as they come… wasn’t he under probe by the ACC but he was only shielded because he was a power govt minister? What did he really do to stop the massive corruption under PF? You got to be kidding to think. This guy will be missed for other things and none of those is corruption fight.

the headline by the post is desperation of the worst kind ever exhibited by a newspaper. the context within which cornelius said what he said clearly points out that WK was a very bad SG with the only positive thing being anti-corruption. if you compare/contrast the headline with verbatim report, you are left with no option but conclude that the editors at the post are dizzy with what has befallen them. every dog has its day and its clear that the post’s day is surely winding up.

Correction. George Chella issued and edited the statement alleging that Sata fired wk. ‘Allege’ being the operative word. There is no proof that Sata fired wk. As Gen Miyanda has stated, the cobra used to spew venom but not any more. Don’t be deluded!
@ Cjay, Chella could not have issued the ‘firing’ statement of his own accord neither did he appoint Lungu to take over from Kabimba. Lungu also said that he had met with Sata earlier that morning but he did not mention the appointment. Which means Sata still has some of his faculties though not able to speak according to ZWD. As Gen. Miyanda advised Chella, MULEBELENGA NO KUMFWA – I was talking about tribalism.

Fair comment. I do agree that Mweetwa can be vebose and overzealous at best of times, but that’s why Dr Banda had intervene to set the Party record straight. Look, UPND is far from being perfect. Every political party has its rottten eggs and from time to time the party leadership has to move swiftly to correct situations. Perfectly normal in a democratic dispensation, which is a far cry from the stinking ship known as pf. UPND would be advised to issue written statements through a respeonsible official. I would not trust Mmembe with any verbatim, period.

I have been reading the editorials from the Post Newspaper these past few days. They are all on Wynter. The story is becoming stale.As one reads them you can’t help but feel sorry for Mmembe. Did Mmembe in all honesty believe that Sata was going to be a better president than RB, surely? Mmembe went to town insulting RB when he was president because he knew that if Sata won, he would look favourably on the DBZ saga for them which RB said no to. At least he did not support their schemes with Mahtani. If Mmembe thought Sata was going to make a better president than RB, then his judgement stinks. Sata has been a tribalist all his life, did Mmembe think for once think Sata was going to change his spots? Sata is hand in glove with Chikwanda,and did the cartel think Sata would abandon Chikwanda

Cornelius’s statement is very elaborate. Which part is a misrepresentation? Do either of the two have written statements or is it the usual story of politicians when they realize they have boobed, they say they were misquoted? One of them is telling the truth and I think its Mweetwa. Banda is lost in UPND.

Mumembe lost his credibility a long time ago. it is just that we have had heads of state who have tried to give him enough rope to hang himself. So far it seems to be working. He writes an editorial siting frightened somewhere in the corner of his office at Bwinjimfumu and he still uses phrases like “we” perhaps referring to demonic powers that have blinded him.
We cannot talk about national building now, until the “cartel” is no longer part of the political equation in Zambia. Yes we need unity in Zambia but the cartel will always spoil the soup.
