Kabwata Member of Parliament Given Lubinda has advised Post Newspapers Editor in Chief Fred M’membe not to overrate himself and his role in Zambia’s politics.
Mr Lubinda said Mr M’Membe should not think there is one person who is indispensable.
He was reacting to assertions by the Post Newspaper that the sacking of Wynter Kabimba could mark the downfall of the PF.
Mr Lubinda said Mr Kabimba is not indispensable adding that it is unfair to claim that Mr Kabimba’s sacking could spell doom for the PF.
In its editorial comment of Friday, August 29 2014, the Post Newspapers reacted to Mr Kabimba’s sacking, seen by many as a close ally of the newspaper by stating that his sacking could mark the end of the PF.
“There is no one person who is indispensable. I would like to appeal to Fred, Fred has been my friend for many years, when Fred was carrying letter written against me from Wynter, he didn’t say that about me, they didn’t. That is his preference, I have no quarrels with that but I’m sure that within no time, Fred M’Membe will be proven wrong,” Mr Lubinda said.

He added, “Who doesn’t know that Wynter Kabimba is the one who caused my dismissal, who doesn’t know that Wynter Kabimba is the one who created animosity between GBM and the party.
Who doesn’t know that Wynter Kabimba was the one fighting people in the party and now that things have happened to Wynter Kabimba, Fred M’membe wants to say people who were fighting Kabimba are corrupt and tribalist.”
Mr Lubinda said the Post Newspaper Editor in Chief should not overrate himself.
“Fred must also be a little charitable to others. Fred must not think he is the Omnipotent, he should not think he is the one who has the right opinion over others and other people have no opinion of things. That is not fair Fred.”
He added that, “My message to Fred M’Membe is we know Wynter is your friend but please don’t make all of us look like we are corrupt and only Wynter is free from corruption. I mean there are people like me, I have never been called by the ACC, never, Wynter Kabimba has been a subject of investigations by the ACC. How can Fred M’membe say that Wynter is beyond reproach?”
Mr Lubinda said, “As far as the records are concerned, Wynter is a suspect, he was called by the ACC, I have never been, Kasonde has never been, Katema has never been, Willie Nsanda has never been. How can he is saying there are corrupt people fighting Wynter, that is not fair at all.”
Mr Lubinda continued, “I think Fred is pushing his weight far too far. I would like to appeal to him, he is my friend but in the protection of his friend, he must be careful not to injure others. Let him say all the good things about Wynter but he must not say bad things about others either directly or by conjuncture or as an innuendo.”

Mr Lubinda, my advise to you as well is never quarrel with the press, especially a wounded one like the Post Newspaper. Though I may agree with your sentiments, it is not worth it as a politician to fight Mmembe especially when he is about to take on the PF as a liberated journalist with a mission to destroy. Mmembe knows a lot about what has been going on within the PF ranks. He has been eating and wine-ing amongst the people he calls tribal and corrupt and he knows them very well as compatriots…, birds of the same feathers.

Painful that the friend has lost his job as it may, Fred Mmembe must realize that he is not the ultimate King Maker that he thought he was. PF is using a simple trick to rope them in, involve them in corruption, then when they are soiled enough dump them, so that if they try to say anything against the PF regime no one will take them serious. And if they go ahead, then evidence is certified for the enforcement agencies to move in and arrest them.

What is going on here? Why is Lubinda so worked out by the Post editorial? Why is he speaking on behalf of others? Has he been rented to because he is non Bemba? As far as I understand it, the tribal and corrupt clique, as defined by the Post, are Bemba speaking such as Chikwanda, Kambwili, Willie Nsanda and GBM. How is Lubinda affected? The Kabimba that M’Membe had presented was a spotless character. A Kabimba who did his best for the country only to end-up being a sacrificial lamb. Lubinda’s portrait of Kabimba is different. The guy was less than perfect. And may have dug his own grave. I concur with the later. Kabimba does not deserve the accolades accorded him by his good friend, M’Membe.

I stopped buying The Post in late 2011 for obvious moral reasons. If my family erroneously buy The Post. The paper has been fabricating more LIES to protect the Proprietor’s businesses than provide checks and balances to the current Govt. The paper even went to the extent of making serious allegations against ZAMBEEF in spite of the fact that this giant national agricultural industry employs thousands of workers country-wide and has penetrated markets in many foreign countries.
Those who have been injured by Mmembe and Kabimba can merely resort to one non-violent option: i.e. STOP READING THE POST. This will teach Mmembe a lesson to respect the people of Zambia. Yes, the people of Kasama have radio sets to obtain authentic information.
No matter how many editorials mmembe will write eulogizing winter, the President’s decision is final. Winter thought by declaring that Sata knew him better than his father then he would be untouchable. And its true that most of the confusion that has engulfed the PF recently was caused by Winter. The post was very strong in the era of pre social media. With technological changes with internet all over the power of paper newspapers has been diluted and the post is not as powerful as it was before during during Kaunda Days. There is no need to fear the post. Information dissemmation is no longer through newspapers but through social media.
This all saga indicates that the ZAMBIAN PUBLIC has no stake or influence in all that is going on. Only a few individuals will influence all proceedings and the general public will just follow. In other ways we Zambians are being played for fools and the people playing think we are. I WANT TO BELIEVE WE ARE NOT. Elected President goes in hiding it’s ok, Mmembe starting to fight the people he has injured over the years, including RB we are expected to watch then make a decision based ONLY on the result of the ‘Fight’. I strongly disagree with all those who think that Lubinda should not differ with the Post if he wants to progress politically. The Post is NO LONGER a factor in the Zambian politics. There sales have dropped drastically from over 40,000 per day prio to the 2011 elections to below 10,000 per day now. No one will ever listen to what the post will say no matter how loud they blow their trumpet.
Lubinda, Zambians like you, keep it up. Kabimba managed to make the party hated by the many Zambians who voted for it. Many people who had lost trust in PF will now come back. Zambia will experience a fresh air now and the country will move in the right direction.
The popularity of the Post has dropped because they have aligned themselves with PF. Should they become sensible in their reporting the paper can bounce back.
Its true, the sacking of MR Kabimba marks the end of PF. And i fear for the President, because he is now surrounded by weeklies, who have no basics of politics. The only chance PF has to win the elections, is because the opposition parties are so fragmented. For the first time since knowing MR Sata, this is the first big mistake he has done.
