Opposition Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) President Doctor Nevers Mumba was today in Vubwi to drum up support for party candidate Eustakio Kazonga in the forth coming parliamentary by-elections.

The opposition leader praised the people of Eastern Province for been consistent in supporting the former ruling party by electing credible Members of Parliament.

He called on the people of Eastern Province to continue guiding the country by voting for the opposition MMD so as to ensure that checks and balances are provided to the current government as the party waits for re-election in 2016.

The opposition leader who addressed hundreds of Vubwi electorates in Chigwe area urged the gathering that gathered as early as 10hres that there was no need to vote for the ruling party which had brought misery to several people through high mealie-meal and fertilizer prices.

He further told the people of Vubwi that they should vote for Kazonga because his is one of the best Agriculture Ministers the country has ever had as can been seen from his works during his time as Minister.

And Mr. Kazonga who nelt down to ask for votes, took through the gathering the developmental projects he brought like Clinics, Schools, a shed and an ultra modern traditional court.

He asked the electorates to let him finish the term as only a year in between was left to agreement of the gathering.

Meanwhile, Mkaika, Chipata and Milanzi Members of Parliament Peter Phiri,Mtolo Phiri and Whiteson Phiri respectively urged the people of Vubwi to vote for Kazonga as he had shown that he was hard working and experienced.

The meeting attracted more close to three hundred people and was attended by some headmen, members of NEC among others.

Meanwhile, Government has disclosed that it will soon commence the electrification of Vubwi District at a cost of six million kwacha.

ZANIS reports that Mines Energy and Water Development Deputy Minister Charles Zulu disclosed this in an interview, yesterday.

Mr Zulu said the money for the project is ready and that ZESCO will soon engage a contractor to construct an electricity grid extension infrastructure from Chipata to Vubwi.

He said once the project is completed it will attract investment and foster development in the area.

Mr Zulu said government is committed to ensuring that all citizens benefit from reliable sources of energy.

The deputy minister also said that machines for drilling of boreholes have already been sourced and are in Chipata enroute to Vubwi district.

Mr Zulu said government wants to ensure that people have clean access to water in rural areas.

  1. KNEELING DOWN before the poor but powerful voters who do not know that they have power over these politicians. We need a law that will empower constituencies to discipline MPs who turn their back on them and political parties that sponsor them. All MPs should be compelled to complete the 5 year term under their sponsoring Party or resign from politics until the next General elections.

Dr. Kazonga was a good Minister and MP. As for development projects, the people of Vubwi should commend the MMD government as a whole and not an MP. We should discard the thinking that govts will only take development to Constituencies which elect MPs in the ruling party. That is blackmail.

  2. Impiyafye alefwaya Mambala!!!! He has missed the luxuries that goes with being an a Member of Parliament. If he really brought development to the area when he was an MP, he could not have been kneeling before the electorates begging to be voted for. His works could have spoken for him.

    • PF brought this degrading habit of MP’s kneeling before the electorate. Sata forced a few of his candidates and now its become the modus operandi. I totally agree with @Zulu that works and message alone should be enough to convince the people whether one is worthy their vote or not.
As for missing out, he definately aint. He was minted even before he came into politics.

  3. How much did he pay them to attend his meetings this time? This chap has already been found guilty of corruption are you sure he will change his corrupt ways?

@Mfumu. This chap was nothing at TEVETA before entering into politics. In fact as former Director of Training Standards at TEVETA he is partly to blame for the poor Standards in our Colleges and our learning institutions.
