Vice President, Guy Scott, has expressed shock that the Mwami river bridge in Vubwi district which collapsed in 2006 has not being repaired.

The 50 foot long bridge, which connects Vubwi to Chadiza districts, collapsed eight years ago after a heavy downfall.

Dr Scott expressed surprise that the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) has not informed him about the situation.

Dr Scott inspected the bridge today in company of Foreign Affairs Minister, Harry Kalaba, Eastern province Minister, Maloza Sichone and Works and Supplies Deputy Minister, Panji Kaunda.

The Vice President also wondered why Foreign Affairs Minister, Harry Kalaba, never told him about the state of the bridge when Mr Kalaba served as deputy Minister in the office of the Vice President.

Mr Kalaba, however, said he never received any report and blamed former area Member of Parliament, Eustarckio Kazonga, for neglecting the people of Vubwi by not reporting the damaged bridge.

And Works and Supply Deputy Minister, Panji Kaunda, blamed the collapse of the bridge on poor workmanship.

Dr Scott has since directed Eastern Province Minister, Malozo Sichone, to ensure that the DMMU repairs the bridge.

And Vincent Zulu, a resident from the area, said people experience difficulties in crossing once the river is full as it becomes impassable.

Mr Zulu said many people have lost their lives and vehicles are unable to cross from Vubwi or Chadiza until the river subsides.

  1. bye elections suck! does it mean development in opposition strongholds will only reach them when its time for bye elections? Bad carpenter blames his tools…so is Scott and Kalaba

    • Iwe we C(S)hikote, you mean you didn’t realiose all along that infrastructure is bad in Vubwi, as well as all over the country. Where is the development in the country you are preaching about? At “The constitution is not a priority because we have to attend to bridges, roads, etc”. Which bridges and roads are you talking about? Anyway, you are a one term party. Even rigging wont help this time around.

    • @Nubian, that hurts, don’t just kick in their BALLS, squeeze them until something comes out of them to produce results.
Yes Guy Scott erect that collapsed 50 inch long thing.

  2. People of Vubwi pls don’t give PF your votes, they are not to be trusted. are you people sure that they did not know about this bride? they must be joking.

    • Is that all you’ve got?
Ah by the way why is there no violence in these by elections? That goes to prove that your former general secretary was the mastermind and it was blamed on UPND.Shame of you pf

  3. I thought we had moved away from election-based development. 8 years with a collapsed bridge means two things: the constituents are as docile as sheep, and the MPs they vote into power as greedy as the pigs that were paraded at the Ugandan parliament…

    • There’s a PF Provincial Permanent Secretary and a District Commissioner appointed by Sata. There’s also the State House controlled RDA who are responsible for roads and bridges. What the bloody hell have they been doing,? Stop blaming people . Take responsibility fulls!

  4. Kazonga & all Vubwi counsellors MUST explain who has stopped them from using any of the 8 CDF fund for the bridge. Vubwi DCs, past & present ought to explain what their priorities had been all along!! But Kalaba & Scot have made me laugh, Monga ni Adam & Eve!!

  5. When are we going to get it? Such work is supposed to be done by the local council. Surely ministers cannot be responsible for every little project. The local councils need to source funds and repair bridges like this. ZCCM used to carry out such works on the Copperbelt without the involvement of the government. Today, even building of a foot bridge in some obscure part of the country is a campaign issue in national elections. Instead of giving money to cadres through the so called CDF, we need to channel money into councils run by professionals and make local councilors accountable for lack of development in their areas.

  6. load of rubbish, that is just campaign talk; shocked my foot; hope the people there can see through the desperate white man s lies; shame on you Scott for taking advantage of the people.

  8. How come this guy is surprised, what is he surprised about?

he has been in government all his entire life and today he wants to tell us that he doesn’t know what a department under his own office does, DMU is yo baby if u dont know what they are doing then you also dont what you are doing

  9. …politicians..politicians will never sojourn to amuse me. The sickening part is were politicians think of any other citizens as children, i.diots, f00ls, gullible………

  10. P.F. HAS FAILED ZAMBIA!!
Thieves who are only Proactive when they are scrounging for a Vote, that they will use to line their own pockets.
