EXCOMMUNICATED Roman Catholic Archbishop Emmanuel Milingo has sued Trustees of Zambia Helpers Society, a non-governmental organisation he founded, for allegedly transferring personal properties without his consent and expelling him from the organisation.

Archbishop Milingo wants the Lusaka High Court to declare his dismissal null and void from Zambia Helpers Society.

The clergyman also wants the court to declare that the transfer of his personal property to Zambia Helpers Society was fraudulently done.

According to a statement of claim filed in the Lusaka High Court yesterday, Archbishop Milingo also wants the court to restore him to his position and status in Zambia Helpers Society.
He also wants the court to order that his personal property be restored back into his name.
Archbishop Milingo also wants the court to order the amendment of records at the Registrar of Societies and any other office.

He argues that he founded Helping Hand Society in 1966 but the name was changed to Zambian Helpers Society in 1994.

Archbishop Milingo said when he left for the Vatican in 1983, Zambian Helpers Society continued to perform its objectives until 1994 when he realised that certain aspects of the organisation were not complied with.

“This became necessary for me to appoint a representative and I appointed Sylvester Mubengwe to be both my proxy and delegate Trustee. Mr Mubengwe agreed and was told to address issues that were neglected such as accounts keeping, status of nurses reporting to the Ministry of Health and remittance of annual returns to Registrar of Societies.

“When I got married in 2002, the Trustees believed that I have left the Society and called a meeting without myself or informing my proxy, at which meeting amendments were made to the Trust Deed without my approval resulting in reduced influence and powers in the society,” Archbishop Milingo said.

He explained that since then, other changes have continued to be made to the Trust Deed gradually to reduce his influence and authority.

    • Does God listen to Milingo any longer? And how can Ba Mubengwe steal from the man of God, who hasn’t even died yet.

    • Milingo umukamba balimudimonka kubena Maria Sung. Intwenu yakwishibila kubukulu ala ilatoba sikopo. With that said, imwe mubweshesheni ifipe.

  1. If Milingo no longer represents the primary objectives of the entity, then he is out. An entity with a Deed is separate and legal from its creators. Like offspring, you cannot own them and do as you please with their assets.

  2. Does the catholic church had any input to the organization or it was his personal vision, from his statement it looks like the two are completely separate entities, its therefore the archbishop milingo has to control and monitor the activities of the organization as long its fulfilling its original purpose, but since the catholic church were /are the main sponsor, they should pull out and let the archbishop find other financial backers.otherwise from the legal perspective the trustees mishandled the whole matter.

  3. Starting well and end miserably! I feel pity for Milingo who thought could damage the Catholic Church founded in 33AD. His age now is time to set his heart and mind towards heaven, not fighting for money and power. Indeed, in life there is no short cut

  4. Anderson, mwalinwaaa? It is supposed to be ” does he have”. It would be nice to state the value of the said properties that ba Milingo wants to waste money on through legal fees. Good day

  5. Milingo does not deserve to be treated as some people suggest. Milingo is a Christian first and foremost. He found faith in God before being catholic and remains so after. His decision to get married does not remove his faith from God as Catholics would want us to believe. There are millions married Catholics and breaking a vow of celibacy is not sin. The Bible says it is good to marry than to burn oneself with lust of sin and commit sin. Millingo deserves justice like any other person without looking at him through man made laws on one’s faith.

  6. The Catholic Church has badly mistreated Milingo and should repent. Nowhere in the in the Bible does it say a priest must never marry, in point of fact the Bible recommends that anyone aspiring to be a deacon or some position of leadership in a congregation, that man must be of sound moral uprightness and a husband of one wife. Why then forbid a virile man from having a wife? This is unChristian and malicious.

  7. @Aquilla and Wantanshi, You are both barking up the wrong tree baba. The issue at hand is Milingo’s legal claims he is making in a society he allegedly founded. The issue of his celibacy has long been settled whether to Milingo’s or your liking is not what Milingo is contesting ba boss. Milingo himself has accepted his ex-communication and moved on. Groping in the dark for reasons to take potshots at the Catholic Church for your life-long hatred of the Catholics is totally misplaced here.

    • @Nostradamus

God forbid, I do not harbour any hatred for individual Catholics, nope. I was a baptised Catholic myself, Kasama Diocese, nalipoka ne nkosho, but it’s the Church’s teachings which frightened and nearly drove me nuts. I had to leave the church. That’s what I abhor and really hate with a passion, the Catholic’s alien and unBiblical teachings.

  8. The Catholic Church is Innocent and has nothing to do with Milingo’s personal properties.
Comments by people like Chileya are Deceitful, Chileya is a misfit who misrepresents the catholics. Chileya would do anything for money. The facts are that the trustees who disposed Milingo’s personal properties did it for material benefit to themselves. They have been and are still receiving money from the Italian donors using the name of Milingo, for their personal use-you confirm this by asking for audited accounts of the Zambia Helpers Society.
The theft and fraud is being spearheaded by an Italian mafiaso and an old crooked Zambians.

    • Thanks for clarifying. It was difficult to form an opinion to support him or not. I now can say I feel for him and hope the courts can help him wrestle back control from the mafioso characters. Why did he wait so long to take action?

let justice be done, be moral enough o give back his personal property to smeone who has spent over 65 years serving the community.
    NOTE: Milingo wrote many…

    • Milingo is an intellectual and wrote many books which were being sold all over the world. He received money for his works. Many students have studied and obtained PhDs on his writtings. SO dont only think only of donations, the man worked hard

    • I am full time Catholic and I love former bishop Emmanuel Milingo. Long live man of God!! I enjoy your contribution to the growth of charismatic in the church.
