Jet-lagged Zambia’s 2015 AFCON hopes hurt

Share

Zambia’s miserable first week of their 2015 Africa Cup qualifiers got from bad to worse after losing 2-1 away to on-fire Cape Verde in Praia on Wednesday night.

The Blue Sharks smelt blood right from the start on Wednesday when Zambia arrived just fourteen hours before the game at 06h00 in the morning following a 48 hour delay due to poor planning over their charter flight for the trip.

Ze Luis put Cape Verde 1-0 into the break in a first half Zambia struggled to find their feet.

And Cape Verdes goal came just 12 minutes after Fortes tormented Zambia’s backline twice in the 16th and 19th minute but some quick action by Nathan Sinkala saved the visitors blushes.

Coach Honour Janza also made two shock early substitutions in the 37th minutes when Chris Katongo came on for Chisamba Lungu and Felix Katongo for Donashano Malama.

However, the strange changes made modest impact in a game Rainford Kalaba carried the burden of a jet-lagged Zambia the entire 90 minutes.

And it was off Kalaba’s threaded pass in the 54th minute that Jacob Mulenga poked across the line to give exhausted Zambia some hope of salvaging a point from their travel ordeal.

However, Ryan Mendes had other ideas and punished Zambia’s now fuel spent defence in the 75th minute after a sweeping one-two with Campos before beating Kennedy Mweene in goals.

Zambia are third in Group F on one point level with bottom placed Niger whom they visit on October 11.

Mozambique are second on two points and they await leaders Cape Verde next month in Maputo.

Cape Verde have maximum six points after two rounds of games played.

  1. Kalusha Bwalya and Chishimba Kambwili must be whipped. They knew the program a month before but chose to land on the day of the match. This is a sign of lack of seriousness. We have jokers masquerading as football administrators.

    • The boys were jet lagged ,9 hour flight is not a joke.Where they waiting for Kalusha Bwalya wifey to charter the plane.
I understand she was given the contract to charter that plane ,hence the delay.

    • It is really saddening to see this transpiring. Unfortunately, l couldn’t watch the game. There is no way to watch this game here in the USA. I thought we had a good team. I watched Zambia play a very good game against Japan in June here in the USA. What has happened so suddenly? There is something seriously wrong with the coaching and the administration. Do you still want white people to be coaching you all the time? You Zambians when are you gonna stand up and show the world that you able to do just the same job as white people? Here in the USA, we have shown white people that we can even do better than them. Wake up Zambians from slumber. Take charge, Zambians!!! We have been playing competitive soccer for a longtime, yet we can’t produce quality coaches. It is a shame.

    • Completely useless coach, what was Donashino Malama doing in the tough match?
That UNKNOWN Janza made completely opposite decision from last week when Zambia lost to Mozambiques.
Who on earth can substitute Chasamba Lungu, if Chisamba didn’t faint on the pitch?
Why Felix and his brother Chris Katongo, was it to show the Cabo Verdeans that Zambia has brothers in the team?
      FIRE that mentally challenged coach.

    • Kudo’s to Honor Janza, the Technical bench and the Guys, they all put in there best.

Totally blame Kambwili and Kalusha for this loss.

    • I was so moved looking at Honour Janza’s face and body language when Cape Verde increased the tall to 2-1. I got so angry with Galusha Bwalya and fat cat Kambwili for the torment they had inflicted on our boys, coz it was clear we’d won that match had we arrived early and acclimatized to the local conditions there. But under the circumstances our hats off to the boys!!!! Now, the only way for us to qualify is to win all remaining home games and one of the remaining outings.

    • hmmm, jet lag after just crossing three time zones? anyway, it is still jet lag strictly speaking but it cant have such an adverse effect. Jet lag is not the problem here but rather the long flight

    • zagaze and fellow zambians,..jetlag has nothing to do with the lengthy of the flight, its about the number of time zones you skip,. the most intense if from west to east,. so in zambia’s case it was just mere fatigue which put our boys down. These guys should take this issue seriously, the schedule was known way in advance..precious 3 points lost…

  2. Hardluck for our boys.It will now be really hard to redeem ourselves. We surely also need an expert coach. These shoes given to Janza are probably too big for him.The sooner FAZ acted in this area the better. We will hope for a miracle now as we always do.

    • From that game against Mozambique, I concluded we don’t have a good coach. What disturbs me more is to see Gift as Assistant. He has just failed to coach Kabwe at club level and you pick on him! Our coach is applying trial and error tactics.

  3. Please stop making silly excuses ….there are absolutely no surprises here, you DO NOT NEED someone with a crystal ball to tell you that Zambian soccer has been going down hill since that lucky win in January 2012…I said it back then later that year that we were NOT GOING anywhere. Even if the Chipolopolo camped in Praia Cape Verde for 4 months they would have LOST this game only a Kalu bootlicker and a gullible Zambian fan would think otherwise ….the Blue Sharks have put in a lot of work to be where they are today. They are not like us who just turn up to play like an amateur pub team when a match is around the corner.
I say this AGAIN; we will NEVER go ANYWHERE, ABSOLUTELY ANYWHERE under that incompetent corrupt FAZ administration of Galu.
Wake up from your docility people!!

  4. This is seriously flawed planning on the part of FAZ … if you fail to plan, you are in an essence planning to fail. How do they expect the boys to perform when they are jet-lagged? This is preposterous and Great Kalu must respectfully resign over this. He let us all down; heads should roll.

As for the boys, it is not over until it is over … too bad we have to depend on Mozambique beating Cape Verde at home and then we beating Mozambique on their tuff and then win at least one of the last two games to just advance. We are 2011 African Champions for crying out loud!!!

Keep on the fight Chipolopolo, we are still in the game and I am behind you all the way. Again, it is not over until it is over!!! Zambia, Zambia, Zaaaaaambia!!! As Denise Liwewe (MHSRIP) would shout.

    • You are of the silly Zambian I don’t to comment over the disaster in Cabo Verde. What kind of styuuupidity is that of writing Zambia more that 3 times.. is there anything to praise you peace of …. son of a b?
That team should be dismantled as soon as they reach that country they no long belong to.

  5. This is article is meant for @Jay Jay and me. Jay Jay take FAZ and coach to task.
I am taking on coach and dismantle the all entire team, except the team which won against Sudan. Whoever didn’t play against Sudan is a nkulungwe…

    • ‘…the all entire…”! (And there is more where this rubbish is coming from!)

The owner of your pseudonym must be having a tough time in his grave!

  6. Excellent! I was expecting this. Great Kalu and his team are doing great! I wouldn’t be surprised that the main reason why it took so long to charter the flight was that they were still working out how to inflate the cost and get a bit of extra monies for the Great Kalu. FAZ is his milk cow as he is not in gainful employment. He’s done great things for Zambian football so they claim! Truth is: he’s been a great hindrance to the development of the game both technically and financially.

  7. Even Mozambique game was because of your useless reasoning? Wake men, we are tired of your embarrassments. The coach looked lost. Going back to old days, this Kalusha is just milking you now. Think men!

  8. Bye – elections every week ; and our Gvt couldn’t organise a charter to Cape Verde. This fiasco has graphyically illustrated what ails our Nation. We lack seriousness and expect good results even when we have failed to put the prerequisite conditions in place. We are a bunch of *****s who fail to see the connection between input and output – this is evident from our political and economic life. We have confused our tolerance for mediocrity for ‘ peace loving’ – where else in the world would a Minister call citizens ‘ lunatics ‘for raising valid concerns over chaotic travel arrangments ? Where else would a president describe those calling for the release of a new constitution as ‘yapping’ ? Where else ?

    • “…fiasco has graphyically illustrated what ails our Nation…”

Yes! Where else can people tolerate such kind of english…

  9. René goes then you get a worse dull, dull one. Are we moving forward? you reap what you sow. Cape verde 6 pts Faz 1. progress?

  10. We don’t have a coach.Which team did Janza played for?At the moment we need a another coach not Janza who has never played soccer .
Maybe he played in Monze stars or Choma eagles.I knew the lack of tactics by our coach against Mozambique. Why can’t just draw with Mozambique at home if u’re coaching Zambia. It was known that Zambia would perform poorly against Cape verde looking at the players cape verde has.Good luck Janza , your poor Faz and ChikaMbwili

  11. The defence is porous
    The strickers are blunt
    The coach is clueless!
Kalu is can;t take the blame as usual!
Kambwili is beating about the bush where there is no bush!
    The fans are still expectant.
The Red line has been crossed
Fire the coach immediately and employ an expatriate coach.Teams like Senegal,Mali,Cape Verde,Cameroon all have expatriates, who are we not to have now.
Common Hon. Kambwili we are trusting you to do something urgent!

  12. But they played in dufficult conditions, the game was not bad.Who is one in the US who did not watch the game? ekala mu getto!!

  13. Janza was so scared of making changes on time and when he finally did, he only got 1 out of 3 right. The midfield started delivering after he brought in Chris Katongo. Next was supposed to be a striker in place of Jacob Mulenga but instead Janza introduced another midfielder (Mukuka). Munthali was supposed to come in to replace Mbola. Danny Munyau should be our first choice goalie. Mweene has started showing signs of aging. He is to blame for Cabo Verde’s first goal. Sunzu cost us the second goal.

  14. You won afcon 2012 because of the spirits of perished players in Gabon.Herve Renard finished Bonetti or Bonelli job that coach from Italy.Thats why you lost it Zambians you have not seen that Renard only finished Italian job.Squables happens to FAZ but your coach is not a good coach though.

  15. Question number one.Who was suppose to charter a plane?Did FAZ knew about the AFCON Morroco 2015 fixures?
Who is behind selection of the Team?Do we have advance delegation in FAZ?If we have what are they doing?Do we have dietician in FAZ?Is there corruption in FAZ?At the expense of who?
We have started maths mode of qualification right now.If Mozambique win against CAPE VERDE then we can qualify. We are going to beat Niger home and away,we are going to qualify.Stop these Football analysis on TV and other Stations because those people presenting programme are not evening playing football. After all TV Levy hurts and ZNBC failed to beam the match in the name of funds.WHERE DO THEY TAKE OUR TV LEVY?

  16. Zambians cant do anything! We cant run the God given mines,we cant charter a plane(remember the Gabon crash and now this),we cant coach.Who appointed Janza when we have so many former internationals who are doing nothing.FAZ is to blame.I miss Tom Mtine,s FAZ.They were organised. We are out of 2015!We need a miracle to qualify!GOD BLESS ZAMBIA.

  17. i have observed that zambians are tired of christopher katongo and his young brother, most of the people protested when he was introduce, imagin i was in a parked bottle store and the entire people shouted aweeeeee……!!!!!!. To the contraly the katongo brothers surely and honestly changed the game for zambia according to the faith that he coach hard in them. my conclusion is that lets not dislike people based on their names but on the ability. lets not forget that chris is edging he may not perform like he did in 2010 but believe me he has a fighting spirit more than most of these young prayers who to me are over rated.

  18. Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!…..ati Great Kalu!!!! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! …..ati Great Kalu! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
Nothing works when monkeys are in charge. Even a Minister has the audacity to call tax-payers lunatics when they complain about his incompetence in making arrangements to fly the national team out to Cape Verde! Zambia has never sunk so low in its entire history. Give these people another 5 years and the country will split up, and this is not a joke. Their standards are so low, no wonder all they think about is stealing. So-called Great Kalu meanwhile is vying for a 3rd-term when the next FAZ elections come…and he has already announced that. How s.t.u.p.i.d can a country be?

  19. How do we win a match in a PF jersey. who designed that political jersey. honesly those waves on that jersey are PF if you have not seen it ,check.i wasted money travelling to cape vede only to see a political team clad in PF chitenge losing.shame shame.Kambwili beware ?football is no politics

  20. Excuses, excuses, excuses, excuses, excuses, excuses, excuses, …………………………….

Morning, afternoon, evening, midnight……excuses, excuses, excuses!

And enveloped in excuses, nothing ever happens in this country because of excuses, excuses, excuses, excuses…………….!!!

  21. All we need is the change in the front line. Let call Evans Kangwa, ‘Sate Sate’, Lubambo Musonda and Bruce Musakanya to replace the old gus like Chris Katongo, Jacob, Mayuka and Mbesuma.

Even Mween should be replaced by Munyao, Please Mweene’s time is long gone or else we continue saying “Sembe tuna wina”.

  22. ZAMBIAN’S SHOULD FROM TODAY STOP ACCEPTING POOR STANDARDS!
    1. Big Kambwili should be FIRED, not only from the Ministry but Government, for making dense immature statements, about tax payers being “Lunatics” for simply expecting a quality service from him.
    2. Kalusha & his whole board SHOULD GO!! This does Not mean Zambian’s don’t appreciate his Contribution to Zambian soccer, but hes a very poor administrator & this problem has happened more than once, under his watch.
Once the new board is appointed, a Standard should be adhered to, & 2 incidents ie delays we witnessed, & the Board gets sacked. This will lead to Zambia joining Normal functioning Nations, not the Banana republic we are.

If these recommendations are NOT followed, we shall be discussing this…

  23. WHAT COMPETITITION WAS THIS and why CHOOSE CapeVERDE TO PRACTICE WITH INSTEAD OF CAMEROUN, IVORY COAST, GHANA. You can’t choose a team that is 9hrs flight away from ZED , WHAT WAS THE MOTIVE BEHIND THIS?

  24. It’s a pity we don’t foresee such easy to predict happenings. I’ve said it long before Afcon kick off that there’s no national team that wins anything with an unproven coach. Stop banal theorising. Suddenly everyone is singing about the aged in Chipolopolo. Silly…Mweene cant be too old when Sundown still depends on him.
