OPPOSITION United Party for National Development (UPND president Hakainde Hichilema has adopted a one day old baby in Nyachikai chiefdom in Zambezi district in North- Western Province.

The baby was born on the night the UPND leader spent a night in Nyachikai village during his recent Zambezi West parliamentary by-election campaigns.

Mr Hichilema and the mother of the baby Ms.Wachuna Chinyama confirmed the development to the Daily Nation in Zambezi.

Ms. Chinyama said that she gave birth to the baby boy who has been named after Hakainde Hichilema under difficult circumstances due to lack of health facilities such as a clinic in the area.

“I gave birth from here in the village because there is no clinic in our area. We have no clinics so all the women give birth without being attended by midwives,” she said.

And Hakainde disclosed that he would take care of the welfare of the child adding that he would meet the boy’s educational costs up to the university.

“I would like to confirm to you that a new baby boy was born last night (Wednesday) and I have adopted that child. I will take care of that baby as my son and I will take him to school up to the university,” he said.

“I want Wahuna to follow the identity of the baby and its needs. Whenever there is anything that the baby needs, they will be informing me,”

Mr Hichilema said it was unacceptable that people have been walking long distances to Nyachikai to Zambezi boma where the hospital is situated.

“There is no way a woman who is pregnant can walk a distance of 130 KM to go to antenatal. This is dangerous. And it is because PF does not love you,” he said

    • Desperate for attention.Halelubana Haleisa, even here in UK people prefer home births,if you are really serious like Angelina jolie or Maddona why not take the baby with you to your Ramcoz mansion in Kabulonga? Utterly disgusted.
we know you are a very stingy thief.why not build a clinic there?

    • # Robin .. Shut up. The building of health centres is the responsibility of the gvt not individuals. You hate HH but have you build a clinic, school in your home village?? Uli cipuba mwaice.

    • AND WHERE IS THE FATHER TO THE BABY, WHAT IS HE DOING? ADOPTING AND SPONSORING ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. IS THERE A PROBLEM WITH THE PARENTS THAT HH SHOULD ADOPT THE BABY? THIS ARTICLE IS CONFUSING.

    • Thats HH for you. A man who genuinely wants to transform Zambia, not these PF minions who have got themselves a licence to loot more now.

Now I believe Zambian deserve to be poor and suffer the way they do because they lack foresight. To them a litre of shake shake is fine to dupe them, forgetting that when they get sober, hush reality awaits them.

Two more years of abject poverty under PF.

HH and UPND should now take a break and watch from the sidelines for the next months until January. They should not comment on any thing even if they are poked.

Then in January UPND and HH should relaunch the mobilisation exercise by visiting all the constituents one by one to take stoke of what the PF will have achieved as per their promises.

    • Congrats HH

That surely is a noble act and a correct calling for you than politics.

Do more of that and society will definitely adore and respect you.

  1. Just keep your kid HH, we will also take care pf ours. You think we can be so stupid to be fooled. With all those travels to NW you have been sleeping in that village. So the baby is squarely yours, thats why you had to sleep that in village to witness its birtrh.

    • This child is just adopted, its HH’s biological father. He has just failed to disclose it to his wife. He is behaving like a wolf hiding in the sheep’s skin. HH tell your wife the truth and ask for forgiveness for having a child outside wed lock. SHAME!!

  2. What is so unusual about giving birth in a village without a clinic? Most people in villages deliver at home under difficult circumstances. And what is so special about adopting a baby?

  3. How can you adopt a baby then leave it in the village? Or is the mother giving up the baby? Be serious in reporting please

    • How can he be a failing Politician when he is growing every day? I love HH. continue with your generosity. Some of the PF small officials were actually educated by HH. The man is unmatched in terms of Philanthropy in Zambia. The fact that he avoids media attention on those issues is a plus to me. Just make the child grow well.

  4. Miles sampa did adopt a child sometime this year, nothing new about it.it could ve latest news,if he had pledged to build clinic there.

    • Mwana this man has over 23 adopted children that he is educating up to University level. Dont delude yourself. He is much bigger than your Sampa. He has an established philanthropy which is supporting hundreds in terms of wheelchairs and other things. It is his media shyness when it comes to such things that make him be misunderstood. Whatever you say about him doesnot change some of us who have come to understand him. It is you who has labeled him a Freemason. This does not bother me (if at all it is true) because you are not God but a mare mortal. Give me ten elections and I will still vote for HH for each one of them. Building clinics is the responsibility of Ukwa and his cohorts not individuals.

  5. The baby was “adopted” before voting day. After the results have been announced, the baby has been abandoned and the adapter is back in Lusaka,

    • LOLEST, you made my day .And why adopt in the village,so many streetkids in Lusaka.Miyanda wifey is the only serious one ,she runs an orphanage in Kabwata ,she does not even go to media.
Can you imagine in the Ramcoz mansion ,he lives just with his wife ,his two children are in boarding school, what a tool.

    • @Weluzani, read the adoption message and try to understand it. The man simply said he was going to support the child for all its needs including educating him up to university level. He further said, the child’s family should contact him for any needs that the child might have. Mr Hichilema never said he is taking the child to Lusaka. Why is it so difficult for some of you to give praise where it is due????????????? Hatred will never take you anywhere.

  6. Too little too late. Your attention seeking stunts are pathetic Bantustan. Anyway that’s probably one of the many kids your uncircumcised oxtail has fathered while on your campaign trails

    • @Kudos, How much have you, who is not an attention seeker ever done for anyone?
Does it ever occur in your little mind that perhaps the family that has been helped genuinely appreciates this gesture? Why should everything be about politics? Some actions by well meaning human beings transcend politics. People should not always be politicking. Some actions are good and deserve their merit whether done by a politician or otherwise. Learn to acknowledge and appreciate good deeds regardless of your feelings towards the doer.

  7. The problem with opposition MPs is that they dont want their areas to develope so that pipo think the govt is not working. you will be suprised becoz in 2016 no one will vote for opposition mp

  8. “There is no way a woman who is pregnant can walk a distance of 130 KM to go to antenatal. This is dangerous. And it is because PF does not love you,” he said>>> Its high time we started showing love to our beloved country. I do’nt agree with the above statement because it is not only when you are a politician that you can contribute to development of this nation. With your riches Mr Hakainde, you can show love to your fellow countrymen by donating a clinic to help out in that area. We know its the gorvernment responsponsibilty but where we have the capacity, its never wrong to supplement in areas were there is an emmergence need. I gues that was not the only baby that was born on that day from that area,so are you going to adopt all of them?
