The three Church mother bodies have resolved to exert pressure on government to immediately release the final draft constitution.

Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) Secretary General Reverend Suzanne Matale, Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) Executive Director Pukuta Mwanza and Zambia Episcopal Conference (ZEC) Secretary General Fr Cleophas Lungu disclosed the resolution in a joint communique released to ZANIS in Lusaka.

The Church leaders argued that the impasse over the constitution making process needs to be addressed quickly and demanded for a clear roadmap.

They regretted that the constitution making process has un-necessarily dragged for too long without due consideration of the huge cost incurred in coming up with the draft constitution.

The Church mother bodies said they are aggrieved by the PF government’s continued procrastination, contradictory statements and apparent lack of seriousness and political will in giving the Zambian people a new constitution.

In the communique they unanimously affirmed that the people’s aspirations and expectations on the constitution making process take precedence over all other interests.

Recently Justice Minister Edgar Lungu met the grand coalition to discuss the road map for the new constitution.

    • This is of “mwalindaya”, you promised.
I am not sure what a constitution is worthy for, at same time I wonder why NOT just give the people the constitution, who will use it anyway? Somethings these PF try to “toughen up” don’t make sense to me.
Just publish damn constitution and let those churches go back to use the bible!!

  1. Ola, the constitution making process under the MMD was hijacked and did not include things that Zambian wanted. PF promised the Zambian Citizenry the constitution in 90days based on the information they got. However, decided to do something with open minded to appoint people to stir this process no reference or condition given to them but this has also exposed the people and part of them are part of the people asking or wanting to force the govt to release the constitution and when they demanded to have vehicles as part of a hand shake for the well done job

    • @Pafwenamwine

You one the PF f00ls in denial about PF’s fake promises. I think illiteracy amongs all of you PF minions is to blame for the way Sata and his panga fighters are conducting government business.

All this confusion is quickly brewing an implosion within PF that will completely decimate the party.

  2. Well Done!
This is what we expected the church to do for a long time. we now look forward to LAZ to do the same. No compromise on the constitution and PF should come out clean on this one.
Honking for the constitution should start this coming Friday and should not be left to LAZ and the Church. NEW CONSTITUTION IN 90 days!

  3. Focus on soul healing and social amenities, including orphanages, schools, universities and hospitals. It is escapism for the Church to concentrate on a constitution. That is more an issue for the political parties and political foundations.
