Former republican president Rupiah Bwezani Banda has described the late freedom fighter and academician Peter Matoka as an inspiration who proved that excellence could be achieved by any determined person.

Mr Banda said the late Dr Matoka’s immense contribution to Zambia’s liberation and development will never be erased from the annals of the country.

In his condolence message to Dr Matoka’s widow, Grace, the former Head of State expressed his sadness at the death of a man who he said inspired many both politically and educationally.

Mr Banda said this in a press statement issued to ZANIS in Lusaka today by his Deputy Administrative Assistant Kennedy Limwanya.

Mr Banda said the late Matoka’s academic attainments motivated many youths in pre-independence times to aspire for greater achievements in their own lives.

“When your husband graduated with a BA degree from Natal University at the age of 24 in 1954, he proved to us that, regardless of a person’s humble background, it was possible to achieve excellence if only one was determined,” said Banda.

Mr Banda urged Mrs Matoka to be proud of the diligent service her late husband rendered to the country and take time to celebrate his illustrious life.

The former Head of State regretted that he would not be able to attend Dr Matoka’s funeral as he is currently in South Africa nursing his wife, Thandiwe.

  1. MOSHOTA what kind of an *animal* are You? Have respect for people who have achieved what you have failed. It shows that you don’t even come from a home. its better to be quite even though we all know you are not ok than speak living as doubt. At Man in 1950’s when cobra was a spy for whites making it difficult to fight for independence manage to gradient with a degree at the age of 24. Those days people use to start school may be at the age of 10years.

    • Get your facts, who said Thandiwe was evacuated to South Africa. Some of us have medical funds that allow us to seek treatment anywhere in the world. Not everybody who leaves Zambia for medical treatment is evacuated. This term evacuation, which means to withdraw/remove from danger to a place of safety is only apllied in Zambia. Has Zambia become such a health danger that patients have to be evacuated?????

  2. Sorry I meant we should ask RB’s employees Robert Amsterdam and Richard Elsen to answer such questions. What is wrong with RB’s wife??? Is she dead??? When will RB give more of his stolen money to foreign lawyers to eat??? Is RB actually dead???

    Thanks
