The Zambia Youths Association in the Fight Against Corruption (ZYAFAC) is disappointed with Labour Minister Fackson Shamenda’s failure to report a bribe offer from a former Dangote Cement Company official to the Anti Corruption Commission.

Mr. Shamenda disclosed on Sunday during a meeting Dangote management in Ndola that he had rejected a bribe offer from the company’s former human resource manager Bala Zango whose aim could have been to persuade him to overlook the critical labour issues at the cement manufacturing company.

ZYAFAC Executive Director Rickson Kanema says while the move by Mr Shamenda to reject the bribe is commendable, the Minister should have gone a step further by reporting the culprit to the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC).

Mr. Kanema has told Qfm news that Mr. Shamenda, being a Cabinet Minister in a government that has promised zero tolerance to corruption, has set a bad precedent.

He says such a bad precedent is actually a drawback to the morale of fighting corruption in the country especially that senior government officials such as Ministers are expected to walk the talk by resisting and reporting any forms of corruption to the ACC.

He says his organization believes that Mr. Shamenda should be among senior government officials well vested with issues of corruption and should know how people in the country look to them as role model in the fight against corruption.

Mr. Kanema says his organization is left to wonder why Mr. Shamenda did report the Mr.Zango, who has since returned to his home country in Nigeria, the time he was offered the said bribe.

  1. Some of these Mini- Stars should learn to shut up. Shamenda is one MINI- Star who should become a FULL- STAR. Him and his fellow MINI-Stars are too noisy. They Offer nothing but empty noise. We are tired of this mediocrity.

  2. Somebody update me. Is it not a crime on the part of the one who was to be corrupted to fail to report or concealing a matter of the attempted corruption until the other party has fled beyond the reach of the long arms of the law?

  3. More likely that offered “medical prescription” for ‘allergy to corruption” was rejected because of insufficient quantity!!!

  4. I find the habit by these ministers of always carrying cameras when working irritating.Alas they are now committing crimes right in front of cameras coz of their stupid habits of trying to show us that they are working.

  5. In RSA, “A person in a position of authority who has knowledge or suspicion of an offence of corruption, theft, fraud, extortion, forgery or uttering a forged document, under PACCA, has a duty to report this to the South African Police Services. The theft, fraud, extortion, forgery and uttering, must involve an amount of R100,000.00 or more. If he fails to do so, he himself is guilty of an offence and can be imprisoned for a period of up to ten years”.

  6. What they receive, they don’t say.what they refuse to receive they make public.who bribed who the one calling or the one who bought a drink.
