More Zambians these days are seeking prayers from people who call themselves prophets rather than seeking medical attention at clinics or hospitals.

People are getting loans to travel to these prophets, some local others abroad. It is not certain whether the poor health services in the country have encouraged this trend.Whilst the rich or political connected can fly out of the country to obtain quality health care the poor are left with no option but to get less than satisfactory medical services or seek alternatives in this case ‘prophets.’

Some prophets ask for as much as K1500 before prayers are conducted with the aid of holy water or anointing oil. Some prophets demand sex as part of the healing process. In July this year a Police in Kitwe detained a Bishop for allegedly having sex with nine young girls from his church aged between 14 and 20 years old on the pretext of exorcising ghosts from them between 2010 and 2013.

Last year a 14-year-old girl of Chipata Compound in Lusaka who appeared before the Lusaka Magistrate court told the court that a Bishop Joshua Matonga told her that he had been having sex with all the women at his farm, a situation which he said made the women to have soft skin.

It’s not clear what drives Zambians to take out loans to travel to where these prophets are found while their children walk hungry to school or empty their savings as offerings or sacrificial gifts to the prophets all for the promise of future blessings or healing. One man in Lusaka however said this is not surprising because Zambians are very gullible.

One ‘man of god’ is said to have put every member of his family on a fast, including a baby that eventually died and was left wrapped in the house as they awaited their miracle. This went on for a number of days until the smell of the rotting child alerted the neighbors.

Recently Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) condemned the immoral behavior being exhibited by some clergymen in the country.EFZ Chairperson Paul Mususu said it is disheartening and particularly shameful when the custodians of morals are ones exhibiting immoral conduct.

Hosea 4:6 says My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.Because you have rejected knowledge,I also reject you as my priests;because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children.

Perhaps it’s prudent that more focus is placed on Education before Zambia is destroyed by a lack of knowledge.

    • If we turn our bible and open the book of Leviticus and specifically

      Leviticus 19:31

“Do not turn to mediums or necromancers; do not seek them out, and so make yourselves unclean by them: I am the Lord your God.”

The bible is also clear on killing all people who practice witchcraft, In the book of Exodus 22:18

“You shall not permit a sorceress to live.”

There you go, make up your mind

      Thanks

    • You would think that in this day and age, people would realize The Bible is just great literary work and nothing else. Religion is really about ethics and morals, the other stuff such as praying for the sick, holy water, binding the enemy and all that bull crap is obsolete!

    • the Question is why are women so gullible look at these so called pastors ati miracle babies, marriage, happiness soon they will be praying for your fake so called Brazilian hair most of which comes from india!!! wake people!!!

    • Prophets have taken over from ba Mutumwa who would also use the Bible while digging herbs.

Prophets dont heal but they give you such a hope that you think there can never be anything better than them.

Being a Prophet is a skill just like engineering, medicine or Mining. Career teachers should study the skill and teach it to pupils. its day light robbery but its worth it.

    • I agree with you (S)ATA and I am a woman. All I see on fb and elsewhere Zambian women are obsessed with religion. They think they can pray everything away; a husband is a serial cheater, abuser and all, just pray and pray; speak in tongues. Looking for marriage overnight prayers and fasting; sickness-they do the same. I fail to ask for advise from my fellow Zambian women bacause it will just be a waste of time as they can’t think outside the box.

  1. Nurses have been fired,
    Medicines,are not available,
The government is very reluctant to act on the situation of poverty, transport etc.

  2. That is what organized religion does to people: It does not save them, instead it condemns them to mental slavery. Because of poverty, they happy to be slaves.

Remove the evil cloud of religion called “Christian Nation” off Zambia if you want to free the people. Instead of getting better with it, the land is increasingly becoming morally sick!

    Fya bupuba!

  3. Brethren please pray for overseers of churches. The church is under attack.Jailing them will not solve anything. That’s what the devil wants.Make them suffer for preaching the word of God.

    • Stop this idiocy, please. It is destroying our nation!

      Who must pray for who?

      Does prayer even work?

You people forcing your beliefs on other people and taking advantage of the weak at heart make my heart bleed. Stop the insanity!

      Twapapata!

  4. Religion only brainwashes people & mostly making people uncurious hence increasing supersitition . You know your country is screwed if it associates itself in the constitution with religion worse the middle eastern one which have screwed up the world big time.

    • The desparate are worst culprits to those so called men of god full of all forms of lust. Problem is being unable to test those spirits to know which one is of God. May be its time to develop our own true faith and God will always be on our side in all our situations.

  5. Do not just say anything on things you do not understand. Careless talk makes Jesus unpopular. I hope this is not the aim of this article. Highly qualified Doctors from around the world, SA, USA, Germeny, etc have been been flocking to the SCOAN for healing. I for one I have been to SCOAN despite me having a good medical scheme here in Zambia and having a permanent residence permit for South Africa meaning that I have access to medical treatment in that country. I have not been convinced of having come across a credible prophet of God here in Zambia, though they may be there but are yet to grow. Jesus still heals and he uses anybody he wishes. If you cannot identify a true prophet of God, too bad for you.

  6. You Pastors are the same people who have brought this situation, When you were mostly announcing of prayers, Muntu akavela che mumala..”this is demons, you need prayers”, Headche tailepola, prayers can assist, therefore abantu mwabajailisha ukufwa ifisuma, then today you start complaining? They are going now ku Nigeria leaving you.

  7. The adverts in the Post’s sangwapo by sangoma’s and “prophets” are just outrageous. It’s high time Parliament enacted laws to tame these crooks and` bring some sanity to what people can advertise i.e it has to be within reason NOT outrageous claims/miracles. This allowing fraud to be advertised!!

  8. The simple reason is Zambian’s are one of the most PWALALAD bunch on this planet!

Mushota…. That law doesn’t apply to you, …especially you as a black Nigress….. You have no place anywhere there….. LOL!!
