FAZ downplays joint AFCON bid with Zimbabwe

Share

FAZ says it is government’s responsibility to decide whether or not Zambia can partner with Zimbabwe to jointly bid to host the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations.

Zimbabwe is reported to have approached Zambia over the possibility of the two nations putting up a joint bid to host the 2017 Africa Cup.

But FAZ General secretary George Kasengele said that government has not yet taken its position on the proposal made by the Zimbabwean Football Association (ZIFA) on this matter.

Kasengele said FAZ has no say on the proposal made by ZIFA.

He however stressed that Zambia’s bid to host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations may make it impossible for Zambia to jointly bid to co- host the 2017 Africa Cup with Zimbabwe.

“It’s not for us to decide but government and as you know we are bidding to host the 2019 Africa Cup,” Kasengele said.

  1. Hey just go it alone you Zimbos. Zim should do their own bidding because that way the AFCON can keep coming to the Southern African region.

  2. Whos is talking about football when we should be talking about fasting and prayer for the president; didn’t you see him today? First things first!

  3. I would recommend that Zambia go for it alone unlike again partnering with Zim! Sometimes I tend to fancy Zim as there are seeing beyond the nose so to say! The tourism will definitely spin to Zambia hence the rush for Zim too! Zim currently is pushing Zambian tourism to the wire as they are riding on our back…Livingstone International Airport etc!

We can do it alone and market our Falls too so as other prime areas. AFCON is a tourism broche!

    • Well said. Very good analysis of the situation. Zim wants to ride on our back. I remember a time when these chaps used to tell us that we went to their country to eat. Sale them maize and all, but don’t get into an alliance with them.

    • My bro! How can Kalu eat alone when this is a national event that will spur even the country`s GDP! For once let us learn to respect our leaders as they labour to bring pride to mother Zambia! The Hotels will be fully booked in turn employ temporals currently loaming the streets, transport operators will have fleet to engage extra drivers, the infrastructure will receive a major overhaul putting money in the contractors currently Zambia’s major GDP driver! Overall, Zambia will have been marketed itself as a tourist destination! ZNBC can own the TV rights! Benefits are many..!

Now how does Kalu eat alone! Let us learn to see beyond the nose unlike just throwing scorn to hardworking leaders! Get guided!

    • I do not know where to start with you…i guess you do not how these events are organised and how the host country really benefits and what the federations get. I haven’t got coloured crayons to explained it to you how the whole system works…maybe you should ask the people in RSA who hosted the FIFA World Cup.

  4. it is a brilliant idea by our Zimbabwean brothers, but why not also Malawi, it would be good if the 3 sisterly nations host this event. Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi

    • Zimbabwe refused to co-host the 1988 with Zambia. That is @ a time when our economy was very bad and theirs was booming.
So let them go alone also.

  5. The Ministry of Sport and FAZ wrongly thought that they could win the AFCON hosting with two (2) stadia in place and ignored the precedent that Zambia withdrew from hosting the 1988 AFCON after having destroyed the DAG HAMMARSKJOELD Stadium in Ndola and failed to rebuild it. Officials from these institutions should have told their leaders that CAF has stopped entertaining “joker nations” who make empty promises rather than bidding with complete infrastructure and supporting budgets in place. ZAMBIA will never win the rights to host such tournaments without these two components. Stop discrediting the country you, KAMBWILI and KALU ……
