Police officers in Kasama had a tough time putting out a fire that broke out at one of its police camps due to dry taps and an absent fire tender forcing them to draw water from the general hospital mortuary next door.

Northern Province police chief Charity Katanga who confirmed the incident said there were no fight fighters to help quench the fire that was raging close to an electricity transformer in the Kasama General Hospital ground.

The fire fighters and truck at the local municipality where away responding to another 999 emergency call 80 kms away to put out another raging fire at Paramount Chief Chitimukulu’s palace in Mungwi District.

Mungwi district council has no fire tender and relies on the Kasama fire tender to respond to emergency calls.

Mrs Katanga said the fire at the camp started from makeshift stalls which cater to the camp’s community and hospital population.

The police chief who also rushed to Mungwi said the fire at the palace was started by three boys aged between six and ten that had strayed to the residence.

The three boys were detained and counselled by the police officers on the dangers of playing with fire before being released and sent home with their guardians.

Both fires started around midday where only put out around 18:00 hours.

    • Don’t worry, those water pipes that ran through the Mortuary or hospital are the same water pipes that ran through your homes (i.e. Kitchen, bathroom and toilet). Kulibe vibanda mumanzi malume.

Job well done and thanks to the Police officers.

  1. Maybe the naughty ‘spirits’ from the mortuary set the fire! Probably one that had been arrested by the cops on the site! Oooooooooooo. Ooooooooooo

  2. You should be accurate in your reporting LT. Kasama fire quenched with mortuary water, as though they were using stored water reserved for washing bodies from the morgue.

  3. actually it is the transfomer within police camp not hospital grounds, infact there is even a wall fence separating hospital and camp. then our taps are not dry we were getting water from our own taps in camp.please verify facts before reporting because this heading is misleading people.

  4. Causing uncalled for anxiety LT, THE POLICE officers got water from the taps nearby or in the mortuary SO what is the problem? Also while do you say FIRE TENDER do u mean those vehicles that are used to quench the fire off?? they are called FIRE TENDERS? EXPLAIN
