The Zambia Medical Association (ZMA) says it is the preserve of the attending medical Doctor to advice whether the country’s Head of State should take leave from work or not.

There have been increased calls that President Michael Sata be allowed to take rest from work owing to his recent public appearance when he opened the current sitting of Parliament.

ZAM president Aaron Mujajati has told Qfm news that the Doctor’s preserve his association has referred to is applicable to any patient whether that individual is a Head of State or not.

Dr. Mujajati has however noted that the patient does on the other hand retain the right to accept the attending Doctor’s advice or not.

He says whatever the situation currently obtaining, the association is guided by the position taken by the President’s attending Doctor’s advice especially that ZAM is not preview to the information about the republican President’s health.

The ZAM president has also advised that much as the allegiance of attending Doctor is to the Head of State, whoever is tasked with this job should protect the integrity of profession by reaming within the confines of the medical ethics.

He says this means making decisions that are usually not popular to the public.

    • Aaron Mujajati is a junior doctor scared to be deported back to Zimbabwe. If Mujajati, truly didn’t know what he was talking about, he could have easily referred the interviewer to the constitution. The constitution is clear about the matter. It is not as Mujajati suggests a preserve of some doctors. Does he even know who these doctors are and their competencies? Therein lies the danger of electing spineless foreigners as heads of important associations, at times when they are required to guide the country on very important issues, they lose objectivity and are more concerned about issues of bread and butter and deportation

    • Obatala, in an attempt to show your wisdom everytime you come to LT, you end up showing your stupidity and uselessness. Dr. Mujajati gives a view then you come with a useless comment about fearing deportation. Mujajati is as Zambian as any Zambian.

    • This is the country’s top public office, voted in by the people, not some CEO. ZMA have no jurisdictions in this case. It’s constitutional, not somethng determined by some poxy quango with obviously low calibres, bent interests and if this guy is anything to go by, clueless. How embarrassing for the other members.
Sourloss….you’re a discredit to yourself, Zambians and Zambia. No logic just blind hatred and Ignorance.

    • Well ladies and gentlemen, I do not quite agree with the ZMA president. The employer in this case the people of Zambia through Cabinet office can certainly convene a medical board to ascertain whether or not the president is fit to run the affairs of this country on medical grounds. It happens in the civil service as well as the private sector, the employer requests for a medical board to be convened. Medical boards are constituted to determine suitability of patients to continue in employment. Why cant the same be done for Mr Sata. We have employed Mr Sata. Our Cabinet has let us down by not doing what they were supposed to do. The earlier they do it the better for Mr Sata and for us as a country.

  1. Dr Mujajati and ZMA are just being magnanimous. This is not an ordinary patient. We r talking about the presidency here. Had it been RB who was sick, we wud have said the same. Remember when sata called for a medical review? It suited him then coz he wsnted the presidency. We shud use the yardstick on him.

  2. A president must at all times be of sound health and mind. Sata is currently none of these and cowards are failing to tell the diseased lumpen to quit plot 1! Well, sooner than later, he is kicking the bucket and some of us will celebrate, over over.

  3. people saying it is the opposition calling for the President to resign on medical grounds are insensitive to his wellbeing as they are using him as a meal ticket. no matter how much the Vice President and other say he is well the fact stands that his excellency is not well. GO BACK TO ARCHIVES AND READ THE LETTER THAT SATA WROTE ON AN INQUIERY INTO MWANAWASA S HEALTH;

  4. I find it difficult to sympathize with Sata. It’s like trying to sympathize with the Devil. This man sadistically tormented Mwanawasa, Kunda and others over their illnesses as if he himself had a cats nine lives. I find his diabolic and fiendish actions very inhuman.

  5. The observations by ZMA are Excellent! We are having too many interferences by some “opposite” Parties with hidden Agenda! Is it because they are scared that 2016 PF will use minimum effort to campaign as they will be just pointing at the infrastructure being rolled out meant to uplift people’s living standards.

  6. The Zambia Medical Association is not the legal interpreter or custodian of medical ethics. ZMA is a quasi union. The Medical and Health Practitioners Council of Zambia is the body that is empowered to decide whether an attending physician has practised within reasonable limits of his peers.
ZMA is there to look after the interests of the doctors.
Only the Council has the legal powers to protect patients and to guide doctors.

    • These fake doctors with no tails between their legs can only laugh like Kaseba Sata. Whether it’s doctors, engineers or lawyers, the Zambian professional can never stand their grounds; always looking for political favours.
This Sata is sick and all the so called doctors are just making a living from the guy and the Zambian people.

  7. Zambians are indeed a laughing stock in Africa and the world. The inability by the people to stand up for a just cause qualifies the country and its citizenry to fall in that category. The guy in the picture above is a moving coffin, the proof is there for everyone to see but alas no one has tennis balls enough to tell it like it is and save a life. Poverty is sin indeed.

    • The army commander’s lymphatic glands are also swollen I don’t know who is advising these people!!

  8. Iwe mwinezed. This has nothing to do with opposition parties. It is a genersl concern by the citizenry. The opposition parties did NOT bewitch sata. Just ask him yourself what is eating him.

  9. Saulosi makes worried , is he a zambian or congoles . what would this country be if we had the Saulosis alone . Kubuta nangu iyo ? God is watching . i think he has no eyes to see . ok fili uko tuya . umwaka ushili obe , Tauchilwe ibaka

  10. @ WANZELU, WHAT IS YOUR COMMENT???

Ok I Never knew that his origin is Zimbabwe. Well, irrespective of where he comes from, if what he said is backed by his professional ethics so be it.

But one thing we need to establish is who holds the power to dictate when the president should relinquish power or not? I find it bizarre that the Doctor could not relate to what the constitution which is supreme dictates. This is because all those who are using him as a Meal ticket can be curtailed.

I look forward to hear the comment from @ WANZELU !

  11. ZAM is not PRIVY imwe fi LT, not preview. Why don’t you engage competent editors to help? Even Mpombo can help you for a song, you befuddled scribes you!

  12. ZAM president Aaron Mujajati is simply stating the professional ethics and conduct of doctors. The standing does not take sides; it was formulated as a guideline and cannot change just because one wants otherwise, or influenced by emotions. Any opposition leader calling for Sata to step down on medical grounds is misled, and the fact that Sata at one point made the same mistake doesn’t make this any better or right at all.

  13. who can rise against sata becoz majority are happy with him evidenced by pipo leaving healthy pipo in UPND and joining PF. Only God shall tell sat to rest not a human like you
