The opposition United National Independence party ( UNIP ) in Luangwa District is calling for the immediate resignation of its leader Tilyenji Kaunda for allegedly failing to lead the Party.

The Luangwa District UNIP Chairman, Olden Tembo says that both the District and Constituency executives and the entire party’s general members in the area have resolved to that Mr. Kaunda resigns with immediate effect as party president.

Mr. Tembo said the entire opposition party’s leadership and general membership were urging their leader to resign after he allegedly failed to lead the party.

He said the current UNIP President was a let down who does not give hope to members of party performing well in the 2016 general elections.

He said that the general membership in the District have not seen positive step by their president as he is rarely seen or heard discussing national issues.

The District Secretary, Mr. Tembo added that Tilyenji Kaunda had failed as he does not give hope of the party bouncing back into power.

He said UNIP has been surviving without a president because Tilyenji Kaunda has not been seen visiting party structures to encourage and strengthen them.

  1. True. He is just there for hedging purposes – one kaunda son in every party; to ensure continued benefits to the family. Otherwise, how can he remain in Unip when the father himself has left already, and has been an admirer of Mazoka, HH and now Sata?

    • Yes, it is about time … our assets at National Holdings need to be used for the purposes of enhancing our party structure. Too bad Ba Muhabi left after being frustrated, I would have seconded his position to lead our party to the next generation of youth and inspiring leadership.

This move is long over due but it is about time we had new stewards to lead our party in the right direction and start winning wards, councils, constituencies, provinces and then get back on the national stage.

We need a fifteen year take over plan and we are the best as neo-cons, to take this great nation forward. After all every other government after us has been nothing but an experiment.

We UNIPists are the real deal … keep the flame burning to the right hand, the future is in our hands!

    • Tilyenji chamuchanya Chanda Kaunda married to Grace Dzizayi Gazika. Are you seriously presiding over UNIP?
      1.What do you stand for?
2.What is your vision for Zambia? How do you hope to get into office and at what timeframes?
3.Give us the running costs of UNIP for the last 24months?
4.How much do you get from UNIP assets?
5.what is your salary/allowances/wages that keep in the job?
I doubt he will give us answers, well, It’s a job to put bread on the table for himself.

  2. I didn’t know he is still at the helm of this lost party. Unip should just disband and merge with PF. After all KK the founder and his son Panji are now PF, Tilyenji should follow suit.

  3. Is UNIP still in existence? I have never seen this man in person, in the newspaper or on TV. I have not even seen any person claiming to be a member of UNIP. Can Muvi TV organise an interview with this gentleman. Perhaps he has other (or is it any) ideas about how to run the Zambian economy.

  4. If Rupiya Banda wants to come back: Why should KK not come back. UNIP is ripe for upsetting the political apple-cart. Get rid of the young KK get some charisma back in the first ruling Party, without One-Party State.
MMD ideal was a lost two decades, RB-2 will be another two lost Decades if makes it.

  5. ..another joke of the day…..how does someone resign from a defunct institution…??….the group masquerading as UNIP members are just there because of the undisposed assets….Duly motors infrastructure…etc…
Mr. Tembo said…..’Tilyenji does not give hope for UNIP to bounce back to power….’ uummm gentlemen, was he serious..??…that could happen but atleast not in my life time…..or even my son’s life time who five this year……

  6. Mr Tembo, Thanks for the comment. It is true that we need a rejuvenated UNIP. Infact the Golden Jubilee can not be without UNIP. Ba Tilyenji, if you are not able to rejuvenate the party, give way to your no. 2 to lead the party. We still love the party. I have been a UNIPist since 1962 and have not changed to these tuntemba parties which are just after making themselves rich. we sang in 1962….amene akana kugula card ya UNIP ku ufulu sazafikako chimwana canu …we Zambia e e e nicikepe ni Kaunda, Kaunda, sichi lema cho taushako anthu, ntausheni nikaone Zambia….uza gogoda chiseko, Kaunda azafunsa, ndani ogogoda chiseko, coka capirikoni wosamva…We wanted independence led by Our Presido…Kaunda.
