Zambia National Service (ZNS) Commandant Nathan Mulenga has warned young people against co-habiting instead of adhering to the African tradition and Christian values of marriage.

Major-General Mulenga says co-habiting is not good because it lacks the support and advice of parents and guardians.

Gen. Mulenga said this in a speech read for him by Colonel Anthony Sapuleni at a colourful wedding reception for ZNS Lance Corporal Ignitious Chimbinde and Melody Imbwae at the weekend.

He said his men and women in uniform should follow biblical principles on marriage so that they can have stable homes.

“It is disheartening that in this era, most young people have thrown away our African tradition and biblical values and adopted strange cultures of co-habiting which is against marriage, an institution of God,” Maj.-Gen. Mulenga said.

He said marriage was sanctioned by God therefore Christianity should take centre stage in married people’s lives.

Gen. Mulenga advised Mr. and Mrs. Chimbinde to submit and respect each other in marriage.

He warned against divorce saying it contributed to HIV/AIDS and irresponsibility to both the family and the nation at large.

“The service expects you to live in harmony and there should not be any differences in making God your pillar because he is the key to unlock any serious marital challenge,” he said.

And speaking earlier, father to the Bride, Leonard Makina urged the newly married couple to seek God’s guidance when they are faced with problems.

Mr. Makina, a former civil servant, said marriage may not last long if the couple do not follow Christian values.

  1. Maj Gen Mulenga a single man advising couples and the nation of co habiting whilst he is the worst culplit in using servicewomen and officers at his home in Long Arces.

    • But this is hippocrisy ba Maj Gen Mulenga. It is in the public domain that nimwe muma insuna kuli Captain Rebecca a nursing officer na waitress Maria wa ku Arakan Barracks Officers mess. You should equally change for the better, bamudala imwee!!!

    • Why drag the General’s name in the mud? You are the many incompetent jealous people who make Zambia dark by your envy, jealous and malice. God deliver you!

  2. Cohabiting has become the in thing in zambia now as some of our women have become very sophisticated. A few years into marraige they cause a divorce, you go to the high court and they award all the property to the woman.all the woman needs to do is to pretend that she was the victim. Injustice!!

  3. I was married to a Zambian lady for 22 years. Once we moved to the UK, she started following bad company…MAINLY DIVORCED FRIENDS. Within 5 years, we had divorced. The court awarded the £155,000 house to her. I had to rebuild my life from scratch. Had we been in Zambia, friends and family would have intervened and saved our marriage. Sad really!

  4. Iwe Siamanengo, we know that kama dak black General even from Kabwe before he became a General. The ka guy is a womaniser for sure. Kabwe knows him better.
