People living with HIV threaten to protest after Kaingu described 2015 budget as a beautiful young woman living with HIV and AIDS

The Treatment Advocacy and Literacy Campaign has warned that it will protest if MMD Mwandi MP Michael Kaingu does not apologise for describing the 2015 national budget as a young beautiful lady living with HIV and AIDS.

Contributing to debate on the national budget, Dr Kaingu said the budget appears good from the outside like a young beautiful lady living with HIV and AIDS.

TALC Country Director Felix Mwanza said it is disappointing that Dr Kaingu could use the floor of Parliament to perpetuate stigma against people living with HIV and AIDS.

Mr Mwanza said Dr Kaingu should apologise to people living with HIV and AIDS failure to which they will demonstrate to show their displeasure.

“It is worrying that an MP can harbor such stigma, what about the rest of the general public?” Mr Mwanza questioned.

He also warned that MPs that stigmatise people living with HIV should forget about receiving votes from people living with HIV and AIDS.

Mr Mwanza said Zambia has made a lot of progress in the fight against HIV and AIDS adding that it is regrettable that some MPs have failed to move with the rest of society.

He said Dr Kaingu should be educated that living with HIV is not a death sentence neither is it a curse from God.

  1. Africa has been taken advantage of since the first Westerners landed on this continent centuries ago… They took our natural resources”. Do yourself a favour and read “Why Africa fails” by Elly Twineyo-Kamugisha. On pg 77 he lists Africa’s biggest looters (none ever held accountable) . The top four are (1) Gen Sanni Ababcha (Nigeria) US$20 billion (2) Pres Boigny (Ivory Cost) 6 US$ billion (3) Gen Ebrahim Babangida (Nigeria) US$5 billion (4) Pres Mobuto Sese Seko (Zaire/DRC) US$4 billion. It seems to me that the Africans have been stealing from the Africans a lot more than their colonial masters ever did.

    • Oh come on now HIV people, i know it’s difficult to joke with you in your condition. Please learn to have a moment of humour. He was just kidding.

    • Kaingu is one man who hangs by the thread. He is in a polygamous marriage and has a lot of girlfriends.Any of these can easily infect him, if he has not been infected already. People who live in glass houses should not throw stones.

    • Zambians???? We should learn to have a Sense of Humor, why can’t someone joke?? Where has the freedom of speech gone?? It’s his perception and maybe he has AIDS himself?
OK we will rephrase and say A Handsome Man living with AIDS or EBOLA…. We will not move forward because everything has to be politicized and people should demonstrate. When PF were in opposition, they used to insult and call their friends names?? For them, because they have failed and so sensitive? They take every JOKE serious. Truly useless Party.

    • Don’t be so Situuupittttd mushota. What is there to blame men for when it comes to mating? Why don’t women then use female Condoms since they also have that oppotunity or choice. Logic tells me that it takes too to make Love; unless baleku rapin’ga fye ku baume bobe!

You are so dull mayo! You’ll need to have someone teach you some social weave; you weave your defragmented manners well. Kula mumano!!!

Ify have nothing to write about, leave issues of HIV and AIDs alone. Just like chi Kaingu! I guess the so called Beautiful Girl was his daughter whose nude we all saw!

    • Shame on you Kaingu. I wonder whether your title was really earned or you just scrapped your way to attain a Phd. As a medical practicioner i have experienced first hand untold misery and suffering in families ravaged by the pandemic and the best you can do is to be so insensitive to the plight of the vulnerable in society. I like many other people thought you had some dignity. Anyway, the apple doesnt fall far from its tree. The character of your offsprings clearly shows your caliber. Shame on you and your family.

    • @Anti Mushota says

Sorry but Mushota is correct. It’s a fact that studies on infection by all international agencies proved that men were the main culprits in the pandemic spread of aids. For instance mining communities were proven to engage in unsafe sex, which explains the large numbers among the mining communities. Also long distance lorry drivers were shown also to engage in unsafe sex and thus it explains the wide spread in HIV. It’s a fact.

Just to say this pattern of male injectors also,is replicated in the West. It is a fact that men were instrumental in the pandemic spread of HIV. Also,if you factor in Homosexual men of which it is irrefutable that they are at risk groups and the stats were highest also among this group internationally.

      Mushota is correct.

    • @suntwe
He was not joking and it is very offensive for people living with this disease.
No wonder there is so much stigma and ignorance.
People that have HIV and AIDS are human too and must be treated with dignity and respect. It is NOT a laughing matter.

  2. Mr Mwanza, certain statements are used to describe a condition and not how you take it. For example,we always say “Zambia has gone to the dogs” does this mean our leaders are dogs? NO! Please think for a moment in the context of the statement before you utter rubbish.

  3. come on TALC, do not make a storm in the cup. The man was requested to retract those sentiments in parliament, which he did in the hearing of all who tuned in to parliament radio program what more do you need bane?

  4. Zambia won by 3 goals yesterday. The goal scorers were kalaba, mayuka and mweene. Congratulations boys.

N:B Nigerian head coach has been sacked.

  5. How many times have politicians compared corruption to CANCER? Have you ever seen people living with cancer protesting?

Come on guys, this is only metaphorically, don’t take things personal.

  6. There’s a Bemba saying that goes ‘Aba no mufulo ngo mulwele wa munda’. Should everybody with diarrhea protest against the Bembas?

  7. A misplaced complaint indeed. Apologize to who and for what reason? Then let all the prostitutes also take to the streets and complaint against the so often use of a term that describes them.

  8. Trying to make a storm in a tea cup really. You better keep quiet if your sense of humour is dry. I have known Kaingu as a man with a good sense of humour. Zwa fa.

  9. HIV aids is not a status symbol. It is heinous disease that we must be willing to heckle and despise with scorn. It was appropriate for the honorable MP to use it as a metaphor of the ignominious 2015 budget.

    • Mei
The people who have HIV/AIDS have indicated that they are offended. We can’t just ignore their anger.

You are wrong in your assertions that heckling AIDS is the way forward. But unfortunately AIDS has no feeling, and is indiscriminate. However the people with AIDS ARE with feeling and have indicated their anger.

Just for once can you not post self effacing rubbish and listen to what the victims are saying. It was inappropriate. AND I have NEVER heard or read any such comments by a civilised Western politician. They would certainly be sacked for such insensitive nonsense. Take your head out of you *** for a change and breath honesty.

  10. I’m living with HIV but not at all offended by the MP’s remark. don’t you think HIV has been glorified for too long? Nowadays, HIV is no longer a ‘special’ disease coz we have made great strides in getting others to treat us as normal human beings. Te, we say “you can’t tell by looking”? Remember the phrase “figure of speech”? I think that’s the context in which the MP made the statement. Chizungu bane…

    • Maybe, but I doubt it because you would have used your real name and given us your email so we can get a chance to question you further.

You must be one of the careless ones, not victims like little children and unsuspecting wives and husbands.

    • @CAN’T TELL BY LOOKING : I agree. The fight against stigmatization of people with HIV and aids has been a major break-through.

  11. Hon King, didn’t you watch your daughter being ducked for 16 mind without protection?! You still behave as though this condition is too far away from you. Shame on you!

  12. I understand when Kaingu yaps in that manner. One wouldn’t have to wonder a polygamous man strays in his thoughts. It’s a pity his thinking like that about the budget, surely he could have found a better term without offending some people.

  13. What a sick and nauseating man Kaingu is. MMD should get rid of such chaps ASAP! If MMD is really rebranding itself it should start by getting rid of this 1d!0t

If I said that at work I would be sacked on the spot. Do our MPs know anything about EQUALITY and DIVERSITY?

He can backtrack and apologise til the cows come home, that won’t change the person he is and that this is his true opinion on people living with HIV/AIDS. And these are the type of people we have making the laws of this country…PATHETIC!

    • Spot on! I can’t believe there are people on this blog who actually sport this lousy excuse for an MP. What he said is very offensive and totally insensitive to say the least.

Here is an idea. Let’s start calling all prostitutes ‘Kaingu’s’. Imagine this for a news headline: ‘Police arrested 10 Kaingu’s along Addis Ababa drive last night’

  14. ….with all fairness, this man should have withdrawn from public eye soon after revelation of his daughter’s mischief……he is very unpredictable….at times he comes up with very humorous reasonable quotations…but this one is humorously unreasonable….

  15. Kaingu, is the subject to people living with HIV and Aids not Iris though people might be right to say he is just insulting his daughter but is the daughter living with Hiv and aid? if not he’s not insulting her.
Every one knows Kaingu,he’s been in punches and vulgar word exchange,He’s a polygamy and he who takes advantage of the short fall of others.
Its not surprising to hear Kaingu say this.
It takes a million lives to fight stigmatisation but it only takes one stup!t f0ol (Kaingu) to destroy everything the good reputation the country has toiled for.

  16. STIRFLOW, MMD NEC HAS ALREADY CLIPPED THE WINGS OF KAINGU BY REMOVING HIM FROM POSITION OF VICE-PRESIDENT (POLITICAL).

THE MAN HAS BEEN AN EMBARRASSMENT TO THE PARTY AND WAS NOT SUITABLE VICE-PRESIDENT MATERIAL.

  17. NO NEED FOR HON . KAINGU TO APOLOGISE..THOSE WHO WANT TO PROTEST SHOULD PROTEST AGAINST THE RAPING AND KILLING THAT 8MONTHS PREGNANT LADY IN KATETE.
THOSE ARE THE REAL ISSUES THAT SHOULD PRE OCCUPY YOUR MIND.
IF YOU ARE TOO TO PROTEST . PROTEST FOR NOT BEING GIVEN A NEW CONSTITUTION. PROTESTEST FOR DENYING OUR CHILDREN FOR HIGHER EDUCATION BECAUSE OF HIGH FEES .

  18. These AIDS guys are over sensitive because the majority got it because as Sata used to put it- disease of enjoyment. No one complained as Kaingu is just using it to explain a point. Why were doing it if you don’t want people to know that you were over active?
Just hide like Sata if you don’t want us to know your status. In the meantime, we know we have people living with AIDS and we just have to learn to talk about it openly.

  19. This so called Kaingu is gabage.A palamenrain with such a dirt brain and mouth. No wonder he has a bich daugher by the name of Iris. Rubbish stuff at the expense of debating real issues affectin the majority of Zmabians.

  20. Aba HIV/AIDS balisashila fye. They are so touchy. Chimo nama homosexuals nama Jews. These three don’t want anything bad I mean bAD to be said about them ninshi waumfwa ati hate speech, anti-Semitic, stigma etc. yangu bane ine nganali uwa AIDS I would laugh about the condition.

  21. PLHIV are have a more positive atitude towards life and if the Dr. thought they are the most hopeless, he must be the most ignorant Dr of our time. If HIV itself cannot stress them, they are more capable of surviving harsh condition compared the so called “uninfected”. I have lived with it for close to 20 years now and I am never sick. I see people go on sick leave I have attended burials of alot of other people and I am still strong. I pray like everything depends on God and I know that one day my God will relieve from it as He is able.
