Former Patriotic Front Secretary General Wynter Kabimba says the K2.8 billion, about 7% of the K46.7 billion 2015 budget allocated to the agriculture sector is not enough to address the challenges of farmers.

Mr. Kabimba told Qfm news in an interview that he is shocked that agriculture sector is not being given the adequate attention it deserves to help reduce poverty among the majority Zambian people.

Mr. Kabimba who been involved in farming for the last 20 years feels the allocation to agriculture sector will not address the challenges of farmers.

He explained that Zambia has the potential to generate more income from through the agriculture sector with increased budgetary allocation.

Mr. Kabimba has also noted the need for farmers to diversify to other crops or animal production if they are to contribute to the country’s food basket.

The former PF Secretary General explained that the Patriotic Front manifesto clearly puts agriculture and education among the top priority sectors hence the need to fulfill what the majority Zambians expect.

  1. There you go subtle campaigning, the right words at the most convenient time

If you didnt want to listen to the subordinates, should the masters be listening to you?

He is playing a game, people.

    Thanks

    • Anything is possible in politics. We have been here before. Remember Katele Kalumba who was dramatically seen being ordained as a chief after things in politics started to go sour. These politician are citizens your know, So let them conveniently behave like normal people when things are uncertain in their domain.

    • Thanks Mushota for your level-headed comment. It’s refreshing that finally you have decided to abandon the praise songs for this man as he has also joined the masses in keeping a close eye on what the govt is up to.

  2. I don’t like Kabimba but he is right on this one! Zambia needs to invest heavily in agriculture.. and Education.Damn we have been saying this for over 30 years in Zambia when it is actually going to be implemented? I remember my primary school teacher saying this in the 80s during a social studies class

  3. I am seeing a play of figures and percentages here. How much exactly would be adequate for the agricultural sector? What should the expectation of the producer and the facilitator be in financial terms? The problem with being a politician is that rubbish is so readily within reach and they liberally shove it in our faces brazen-faced. This guy has come back to cause us to cringe once again, has he?

  4. People in PF should feel ASHAMED they should know that people are now knowledgeable we are not kids to play with cum 2016

  5. PF would rather invest in showdy road contruction because thats where they can steal the most through corrupt award of contracts to statehouse relatives and PF politicians. Can you imagine how much impact the $1billion loan would have had if spent on agriculture, health and education..?

  6. it is disheartening to find cadres who still support the pf just because its their party even when pf is not delivering to their promises where is agriculture education health for a example things are not okay

  7. Is this not what HH has been telling the country that the pf are not interested in developing agriculture? And Iwe Kabimba if you were still in pf you were going to start insulting HH. So what has changed?Welcome to the real world.

  8. Can Kabimba give us the % allocated last budget when he was in Govt and secretary general of PF. Now he is talking rubbish. He did not raise this issue when he had a chance becuase he was in charge of implementation of PF manifesto as SG. He is infact more previledged than many Zambian farmers as he has a tractor which many cannot afford. On his voice is he speaking for.
What is needed is to waiver import duties for farmers on machinery so that many farmers can get spare parts or replace machinery at reasonable prices for say three to fours. Increase in Agriculture budget will not solve anything and will just be used for corruption and corruption in agriculture will win.

  9. never ever thought I would ever support you on anything Winter, but on this one, spot on; lol you should be singing I CAN SEE CLEARLY NOW THE RAIN IS GONE. but jokes aside; you are right.

  10. OK, Kabimba is right on agriculture. But the budget was in the process of formulation when he was in power as Minister and SG, His observations could have been more relevant then, so as to make amendments. To talk like that now is water under bridge.
