MMD Mwandi MP Michael Kaingu has issued an apology to people living with HIV for referring to the 2015 national budget as a beautiful lady living with HIV and AIDS.

Dr Kaingu said in an interview that he is deeply sorry for the statement he issued in Parliament during debate on the 2015 national budget.

He said he did not mean to offend people living with HIV and AIDS.

“I regret my statement. I was carried away by the excitement of the debates in Parliament and allowed my mouth to say things that I do not believe in,” Dr Kaingu said.

He continued, “I know HIV has devastating effects on society and it does not augur well for leaders like me to start demonizing people living with HIV. I have friends and family members that have died of this disease and stigma should not be promoted.”

Dr Kaingu said he will personally phone Mr Felix Mwanza, the Country Director for Treatment Advocacy and Literacy Campaign and apologise for his statement.

He said the HIV and AIDS situation in Zambia is grave and people that are living positively with the condition should be supported and not stigmatized.

    • Mr Kaingu, you can’t separate the real you and your mouth! The mouth will always speak out of the abundance of the heart.

    • This cow boy keeps hitting the headlines for the wrong reason.

We can not tell whether his utterances exit from the front or the back door.

  1. Honestly, peopple what can you learn from this man? This is the man that stood defiantly the daugthers mistakes.parliament is a public house where one should mind what to say and not wait to be corrected by someone.

    • @eyes: Have you been to Parliament for you to judge?? I am sure even yourself at some time said something you never meant to say. That’s why people call it “slip of the tongue”.

The man has apologized so what more do you want him to do. Actually I salute him for accepting a mistake which most people don’t do including SATA. At least he added some fun to the debate?? Viva Kaingu, you are a real man.

  2. It would appear the apology was forced and does not reflect remorse on the part of the parliamentarian. He took a quick way out so that he should not be misunderstood any further as he was initially misunderstood. Like others have observed; it was a metaphor. Nonetheless, well done bwana Kaingu, you loose nothing. Retreat to fight another day. You have been honourable

  3. I know how it is. In future please consider carefully what you say in public. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. It happens to all of us, what you imagine is an innocent remark or even a joke boomerangs at you with devastating consequences. In serious societies your utterances could have cost you your position. You are fortunate. At least you are more humble than Sata who’ll never apologize to no one.

  4. Everyone who speaks in public or plans to speak in public on a regular basis or as a professional undertaking (such as what politicians in Zambia have decided to become) should have public relations assistants and press associates to avoid this nonsense. You cannot now say you got excited when you actually meant the analogy and wanted to drive a point but in a lame way! Apology noted, but we are watching you; you have said silly things in the past – this is not the first time.

  5. Parliamentarians sometimes argue too childishly. Most of them don’t talk sense in parliament apart from laughing and passing unpalatable comments on others. I’ve sadly watched parliament proceedings and my impression is that some of the so called honorables are just jokers. No wonder Zambia is still behind 50 years after independence…

  6. Is this bashi Iris, balingana fye nomwana wabo uku totonkanya. And he calls himself a leader with that careless talking. shame to the people who voted you…

  7. the problem with kaingu he is too emotional he doesnt think before he utters any word.he is very childish, these are some of the chaps that caused mmd to lose 2011 polls.shameless kaingu.

  8. Ba Kaingu your statement was demeaning to people living with HIV, Apology noted… However, our leaders should refrain from making statements which are not well thought especially speaking out of context.. Some utterances have the potential to breach peace and cause anarchy. Ba Honorable Kambwila please take a leaf.

  9. according to one English dictionary excited comes from the word excite meaning;
    1. having great enthusiasm
2.(physics ) being in a state of higher energy
    3. HAVING AN ERECTION.
Therefore I pick the third one and conquer with the honorable. Hence the reason he had to use that figurative speech.

  10. Growing up and being mature means thinking about the things we want to say before we open our mouths. Surely Kaingu has apologized for the sake of making peace but that will not change who the man is. In Western countries the man would have been asked to even quit his public office for being so careless and insensitive. I doubt if he meant what he said in his apology statement,!

  11. ….if you slap your in-laws and later seek for forgiveness they may accept your apology but the fact is that the negative dent will live till death do you apart….the respect they could have had for you shall vanish forever………

  12. One Mall in Chilenje which houses pubs spur supermarket and other outlets is now charging customers for using the toilets i think that is not right. As a result i have decided to boycot the Mall until toilets charges are removed.

  13. Too late to apologise it will teach you to engage brain before you spout such nonsense. If you actually said it that is what you must think. Disgusting man! He has apologised hoping to shut people up about it.

Kaingu just doesn’t get it! The true face of politicians, uncaring, selfish, nasty and greedy. I am not HIV positive nor have AIDS, but I am VERY ANGRY at his comments.

He should resign. This is the lowest of the lowest. People living with HIV/AIDS should be valued no different in the community.

  14. …There are mistakes and stupid comments and there are occasions when someone lets their true feelings slip out. The insinuation was enough, it let slip his true feelings. I can imagine what this rat thinks about the disabled, old, poor and anyone else less fortunate than he is, and it must be disgraceful in the extreme!

I just hope that he is forced to resign… In my opinion he is not fit for Parliament.

Trouble is the little rat won’t read this or any other comments even if they were brought to his measly attention.

  15. He made a grave mistake by his comparison of the budget to people living with HIV/AIDS. I commend him for accepting the mistake and tendering the apology. It is a great of him. Unlike those who make mistakes and do not accept their mistakes let alone apologising. Chikwanda called Zambians lunatics and has not bothered to apologise. He has continued to be arrogant. Kambwili is another one who has not continued to be arrogant and intransigent despite calls for him to apologise for his mistakes. Hon. Kaingu has demonstrated humility and civility: that is leadership.

  16. It takes courage to apologize and expose yourself as a lost (stupid) sheep. Well done bashi Iris, that’s true leadership. We all make mistakes. Now cheerup and finish your brilliant debate on that budget, that’s a lifeline for millions of Zambias and we need every lawmaker’s input.

  17. how does a big man say such a thing ,iam not surprised that he wants to be foolish in front of media.like father like daughters I don’t like his family either they think the same ponograhy minded children he should grow up he is not special than others.

  18. It only shows that the stigma against HIV aids is still strong in our own small and warped minds. Had Kaingu used the term: “Syphilis” or “V.D.” or even “leprosy”, who would have given it a damn?

    • Not even the use of metaphors such as “Malaria” or “Ebola” would have ignited such ire. The marginalization and stigmatization of people with HIV aids is more a product of our own zombie like thinking.

    • Sadly, this unnatural uproar against the HIV aids remark made by honorable MP Kaingu shows that people infested with HIV aids, are themselves culprits of their own stigmatization and marginalization. Not only do they see themselves as different from all other humans, they literally take offence at anyone who dares to use the name of the disease they are suffering from to illustrate another point in life. They see such a person as talking about them, and not about the disease. That indeed is sad, very sad.

    • Notwithstanding the clandestine superstition they hold about themselves, these bigoted sufferers ought to be told unabashedly that HIV aids does not belong to them. It is not a property or a belonging of theirs. The disease is in the public domain and anyone must be free to talk about it, no matter how disparaging that talk might be, as long as it is not personal.

    • HIV aids is a disease like any other disease and the people who suffer from it are humans like all other humans. Why must HIV aids be regarded as different from other diseases? What is so special about it?

    • And who could have stated it more aptly than William Shakespeare: “Away you scullion! you rampallion! you frustilarian! I’ll tickle your catastrophe.”

  19. Kaingu was talking about his daughter, Iris – nice body but hollow inside , without morals and thoroughly shagged. That’s the way PF’s 2015 budget is like.

  20. Robin Williams once said “The problem is, God gave man a brain and a penis and only enough blood to run one at a time.”
    Kaingu should take note.

  21. Its good he apologised so quickly about those foolish remarks especially that he even has a porn star for a daughter. Ooops… sorry ba Kaingu, I got carried away in the heat of the moment for I know that your daughter’s video was just youthful transgression!

  22. Its good that you apologised ba Kaingu especially that you have n star for a daughter. Ooops, sorry big man I apologise just got carried away especially that I know that your daughter’s behaviour was just youthful transgression.

  23. I wonder how Iris her daughter is feeling write now, with those results we got after VCT. Anyway she gave me good sex not that one the entire world watched.

  24. STIRFLOW YOU HAVE HIT THE NAIL ON THE HEAD. THE BBLE SAYS “OUT OF THE ABUNDANCE OF THE HEART, THE MOUTH SPEAKETH.” WHAT IS FULL IN YOUR HEART IS WHAT YOUR MOUTH RELEASES. THERE IS NO SEPERATION.

THAT IS WHY THE BIBLE ALSO SAYS “BE SLOW TO SPEAK, BUT QUICK TO LISTEN.”

HON. SHAMENDA IS NOW IN TROUBLE FOR BEING QUICK TO SPEAK. EVEN IF ITS IN PARLIAMENT HON KAINGU, YOU HAVE TO SHOW MATURITY NOT EXCITEMENT. WHAT ARE YOUR PEOPLE IN MWANDI THINKING? DO THEY THINK THEY HAVE A MATURE LEADER OR AN EXCITED LEADER?

  25. I urge Dr KAINGU not to be worried. HIV & AIDS is not to be monopolised by those who now live with it now. Everybody is affected and when someone refer to it, Mr Felix Mwanza, the Country Director for Treatment Advocacy and Literacy Campaign should not take it personal. We know there are people who would like to benefit on anything. HIV&AIDS is no longer a matter of serious sympathy in fact very soon Mr Felix Mwanza wont be surprised when donors withdraw their support on them and re-direct resources to Ebola victims and families. AIDS is like malaria and if Dr Kaingu meant that the budget was made with some defects then his example was perfect just like some us we are not moved by those who condemn the budget because it is such a nice one in my view. For Kaingu that was just…
