Defence Minister Edgar Lungu has been appointed as acting President. This follows President Michael Sata’s trip abroad for a medical check-up abroad.

The development follows official confirmation by President Micheal Sata’s Special Assistant for Press and Public Relations George Chellah that the Republican President had traveled abroad for a medical check up.

In a media statement in Lusaka this afternoon, PF Media Director Brian Hapunda said that the PF Secretary General will act as President until President Sata returns back home ahead of Zambia’s Jubilee celebrations slated for Friday to mark 50 years of Independence.

Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations George Chellah earlier today announced the the departure of President Sata in a statement to the media statement.

Mr Chella said President Sata left on Sunday night accompanied by First Lady Dr Christine Kaseba and some family members.

    • Anyone knows what an MOT means. Well it means is its time to take a vehicle for a check up to make sure it is road worthy. An MOT does not mean the car is faulty it just means for the peace of mind this ought to be enforced.

Same here the president going for a medical check up simply means he has gone for an MOT that is just a check up.

This should not be misinterpretes for him being unwell.

I hope this put to rest the flawed deciphication by the unwashed masses

      Thanks

    • Okay! acting presido, Eddie Lungu,,, but i have one question for George Chellah, his sms didnt explain enough,,,Why is president Sata going for a simple medical check up ku bulaya??? does it mean that UTH has run out of thermometers and ARVs again??

    • Edgar, Edgar ! This is the best man for this position. I quote Chikwanda`s words “Eee Edgar aliba close na bantu elo kalikwata humility. Elo kalichenjela mwimona filya. Nangu ba Kabimba he can’t be a match. Nangu nakakolwa still more kalalanda ifyamano. Ubwalwa bwena kalibutemwa…. And I also contribute pantu ine banshitilafye crate yonse.”

    • This is the problem with our country, it is run like a Sole Trader (Akantemba”?? “Wholly owned” by SATA with LUNGU as his Nephew??? So many positions this small Edgar acts on?? You mean we cannot appoint people to take over some of these positions?? This is not saving and you can’t fo.ol us SATA. This is risking our country?? Lungu is human, he gets tired and cannot concentrate in all those ministries.
Why Not Guy SCOTT acting as President since he is VP??? Oooh is it because of the 50th Jubilee celebrations that during Military Parade, with Muzungu standing on the podium?? It will look as if we are still in Colonial?? Whatever the case but Lungu should let go some positions. We have many Zambians to take over.

    • @Ndobo (Campaign manager), this best time to intensify my election: Nostradamus 2014 LT president.
Ba Edgar Lungu please inform all your workers to vote for NOSTRADAMUS- for blogger of half century.
      We will this thing.

    • Farewell Sata! It goes without saying that a cat has only 9 lives, well others believe it’s 7 lives but whichever the case, I reckon Sata has exhausted all his lives. The day of judgement is in sight I believe and all those doubting Thomas’s of the likes of Saulosi, Ka Mushota etc, will now come to terms with the blatant lies that have been coming from State House and PF in general. Even the entire cabinet has immured themselves with lies that has engulfed the entire PF top brass.
When RB or Mwanawasa were busy wooing investors across the globe, Sata was in the forefront cracking jokes of Kamwendo, cabbage, etc. Now he has spent his entire presidency hibernating in State House and expensive Hospitals abroad at an expense of the many poor Zambians who can’t even afford to go to ka UTH.

  1. Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day the SATAn’s death. And punish Ukwa for all his wicked deeds, while cursing his ugly face. And joyously lead him into hell, so he can rendezvous with his nemesis the evil Lucifer: For thine is the fairest play, and the bold, and the punisher, for ever. Amen.

    • THE SICK ON TOP UP REJOICE WHEN THEY HEAR OF ANOTHER. YOUR GOD IS WORSE THAN THE DEVIL. PLEASE RESPECT SCRIPTURES AND DON’T JOKE WITH GOD JUST BECAUSE HE WORKED AGAINST YOUR PREFERRED F00L.

    • Do not mention the LORD’s name in vain. Never swear on anything on earth or in heaven! Please repent, never dare the Almighty please never!

    • People, just remember who abused the Bible by swearing that he would “Rule Zambia by the TEN COMMANDMENTS” !!!!!!

The BIGGEST anti-Christ is this LIAR and CHEAT that has been hiding in State House.

Now he is suffering Gods punishments for his sins.

    • For a mere medical check-up, why not take Sata to UTH or any good private hospital within Lusaka? This man is sick. He needs to resign. He is not going for medical check-up wherever he went, but he went for treatment for a VERY SERIOUS condition.
Moving away from the topic a bit, this is why we need a new constitution that will address the issue surrounding the presidency. Its like life in Zambia revolves around the presidency. We need a constitution that will ensure that when the president is incapacitated due to illness, the vice president takes over and life goes on. Rather than the current situation where the whole country is ALMOST on stand still just because of one SICK man.

  2. If we really want to move forward, as a nation, and if PF wants to remain in power, Guy Scot is the guy to field as their candidate in these presidential by elections. He is a westerner and understands good governance and constitutional democracy. The medicine for development is a strong democratic foundation that makes the investors feel secure.

    • PF needs a soid plan,,, Guy Scot cant win!!!,,, God forbid,, if Sata dies,, PF dies too,,unles they put up a clear solid plan immediately

    • Solid plan will start after NOSTRADAMUS is elected…practice the right voting this week. Results are on October 28th.
NOSTRADAMUS blogger of the half-century of independence.
We will win this thing guys…

  3. patience pays Nevrs Mumba almost became president but he couldnt be becoz of lack patience. HH formed packed with sata of which he was to be the next president Alas he failed to be patient too. Now its you lungu

    • Patience is indeed a virtue, my friend Wandi. Nevers and Hutu Holocaust (HH) failed lamentably at the test of time, patience. If you don’t have patience, can you be a leader, a head of state? Unlikely. King Cobra, a natural born leader taught us that with patience and determination, the limit is the sky. He is indeed one of the greatest men to walk this earth. I appreciate PF members like Lungu who have patiently learnt the Ways of the Father: Patience, Humility, Respect, Wisdom, Maturity, Modesty and general brotherly love. Compare these qualities with imbecility of (HH), a disrespectful cattle rustling bustard, bank-rolling a genocidal, tribal gossip media. The quack is overwhelmed with the PF successes and probably wishes he was never born!

    • @ #Kudoass!!!

Great news indeed. Shame that PF does not have more suitable Ministers which can be trusted even on short-time basis.

  4. And the info Chellah is not giving you is that its not Sata that appointed Lungu as acting President but cabinet. Anyway whatever the case, the fact that this time around they have been honest concerning the presidents trip lets pray for him.He is currently the father of the nation.

  5. Since June 2014 Sata has been off the mark. Please PF illiterates can you sober up & advise correctly the President who is using the TEN COMMANDMENTS to rule Zambia to rest & concentrate on his health! At least you have corruptly & tribalicaly amassed some wealth & got some jobs. Can you swallow your tribe & be responsible. We are reliably aware that you don’t have think tanks in your camp apart from Edgar whom you have piled with 4 positions.Zambia is bigger than PF & you have done a deservice to the people of Zambia-so give way!

  6. Who should announce? Is it the PF Media Director or the Govt Spokesperson. In any case, we wish the president a quick recovery.

  7. Why leave such a serious and important national announcement to a junior PF official? Where is the government spokesperson or representative? What is going on here?

  8. When we said there was no smoke without fire after the UNGA embarrassment you blind Satanists called us names. Now karma/fate is proving we were right.

  9. Please tell us something we don’t know Lungu has been acting President since Wynter left….the lies ate catching up…more taxpayer’s funds being wasted on one selfish man’s medical bills.

  10. Why Guy Scott was appointed Vice-President and then barred from acting president is definitely a product of crackpot logic, defies comprehension.

    • George Kunda, the late former vice president argued in the house that since the current constitution bars anyone with foreign parentage to become President, then it means Dr Guy Scott cannot act as President since acting means you assume such powers of PRESIDENT.

Our legal gurus seem to have agreed with this position and since then Guy Scott has been sidelined when it comes to this issue of acting president……

  11. Brian has no right to announce the appointment. Where is Msiska? Where is Fwabukaya? The MPs should take Guy Sikote to task.

  12. Spending tax payer money going to hospitals abroad, instead of investing in the Health system in Zambia. This is What we Get for letting old uneducated men lead the country! they cant Even stand own thier own two feet for 5 mins. 50 years of independence!! What a joke!! School systems at thier worst, terrible roads, unemployment endless list…., Where is this country going??

  13. Moan, Groan! Your President is attending to his health matters. This is good. We have been notified makes a difference from before, when you still moaned and groaned!

  14. # Kudos,
Take paracetamol to calm down. Sata has arrived safe to the undisclosed destination, still alive. HH did not cause Sata’s sickness, if ever he is really sick as rumours go round. Zambia will not cease to exist if and when Sata will be no more, others will lead our country. Mr Sata will leave behind a reprehensible legacy never to be repeated in Zambia. The next person to lead Zambia is one who is in politics, leading a party, young than Sata (RB exception) and better educated than Sata.
There you are Kudo, a better future for you and your children. Calm down.

  15. Tommy Sankara, ulichipuba. This blog is meant for educative stuff. Your writing shows how shallow minded you are, like a nincompoop.

    • when there is prevailing peace from all camps….. no war lords, militias, ba bande, greedy trade unions backed by politicians and lethal organized criminal gangs ….the answer is yes.

  16. Innocent and straight forward people like George Siame formerly of ZRA and who can tighten all loopholes for criminals is suffering on the streets of Lusaka when criminals are drinking shampaigne with their girl friends. Hon. Lungu should deal with this matter!

  17. Under what Constitutional Authority does the President have to “appoint an Acting President”? It should be the Vice President who will “Act”. The last time I checked, Scott wasn’t incapacitated.

“….(3) (1) ….reports that the President is not incapable of discharging the functions of his office, whichever is earlier, cease to perform the functions of his office and those functions shall be performed by —

    (a) the Vice-President; or

    (b) in the absence of the Vice-President or if the Vice-President is unable, by reason of physical or mental infirmity, to discharge the functions of his office, by such member of the Cabinet as the Cabinet shall elect:..”

  18. Congratulations Hon. Edgar Lungu for being appointed Acting President of the Republic of Zambia while President Sata is away on medical treatment. You have served in this position before, we wish you we. We are praying for you Sir and God bless.
