Former MMD Petauke Member of Parliament Dora Siliya has challenged the PF Government to be open about President Michael Sata’s health.

Ms. Siliya who also served as cabinet Minister in the MMD administration said she is disappointed that Government has failed to openly address the issue of President Sata’s health.

She advised the PF Government to adopt a new approach to managing information over President Sata’s state of health.

State House yesterday announced that President Sata was flown abroad for medical check-up Sunday evening.

In a brief statement, State House Spokesperson George Chellah revealed that President Sata has been accompanied to an unknown destination by First Lady Christine Kaseba and some family members.

But in an interview, Ms Siliya wondered why State House has continued being secretive about President Sata’s health.

“It is not a secret anymore that the President is experiencing some ill health but it is very sad that we are failing to manage this situation. We are just hearing rumours of the President being evacuated instead of the nation being addressed properly on this matter through the presidency,” Ms. Siliya said.

She added, “I think it is high time that Government machinery begun to operate like we are in a democratic nation and allowed information to begin to flow to the citizen.”

Ms. Siliya stated that President Sata’s health cannot be hidden from citizens for a long time.

“The President is not a private person, he is a public person and the presidency is a public office and as such all matters relating to the office have to be dealt with in a manner that is deserving,” she said.

“It is disappointing that with only a few days before Independence, we are still seeing hide and seek archaic methods used to address issues of the Presidency.”

  1. Be open for sure. It does not look good. I have seen many people at the last and that’s all you can see or hear in the mans voice. Completely short of breath no lung function any more. He needs a new body. Its Sad, Only a miracle can bring him back. In god we trust. we never know when its coming but its rare. Will keep praying for his health not only for Zambia but his family too. Amen

    • Look be open about your salary. Be open about what you did last night. Be open about your salary.

These are silly requests. You don’t unaided go for a quick check up if you are un well.

If you take a car to garage it doesn’t mean it is faulty.

When you kill a cat and put it in an oven it doesn’t mean when you switch on it will become a biscuit.

This is a silly comment by Dora who has no credibility and must be condemned. This is slander of the highest kind.

If you have a wise head between your shoulder ignore her statement.

I swear with every living fibre of my being that the president is fine

      Thanks

    • Do not worry they will be open soon when they start preparing for the funeral..

Ichililo tabafisa …… its just a matter of time

    • You can never please everyone. The last time the president disappeared it was an out cry that no communication was made to the public. The day state house announces that He has gone for a medical check up you start saying government should be more open about the presidents health. Its not rocket science ! everyone knows bakateka balwele but we are not going to start uploading chest xrays to prove that we are more ‘open’ ,,, Ge t a life Dora.. maybe try to bring back MMD from the Coma.

    • PF will NEVER be open about Sata’s sickness. I just thought about it, why sending the president abroad for a mere medical check up? Can’t they take him to UTH or any good private hospital within Lusaka? The truth of the matter is the president left the country for treatment for a VERY SERIOUS medical condition. Chapwaa.

    • @MM Le Grand Mopao, you’re right. Firstly, why lie?
      * A medical checkup can wait until Saturday after the Jubilee celebrations.
      * The location of the president should never be a secret.
      * The illness of the president should be shared. It’s no shame to be sick.
      * There should not be any superstition around this. When people want info you say they are wishing the president dead! Do you mean those who care about him do not want info?

    • Do you wet the bed when you go to sleep, Dora?
      Be open.

Look again I just do not understand why someone who is a national treasure (I mean in zambia) as Mr Sata is being ridiculed, spit at undermined by the country.

When you go to war and when one of your own is injured during a battle you dont neglect them you stick together, if be any unlikely scenario the president is unwell the message I would be expecting are those of ‘get well/ nothing else.

He represents the pinnacle of human achievement by any Zambian, his position is sacred and only very few men have achieved that, he is what should be treasured.

The Queen in England is protected, loved, venerated. You dont insult the Queen without getting the wrath of any true Brit.

Why can’t we be the same?

      I don’t…

    • If you live in a glass House don’t through stones, we have not forgotten what you said ba Dora during your campaign (you said if Sata becomes president your mother will woke up from the grave) at some point you even wanted to persuade Zambians to privatise government schools. Your wrongs ba Dora are just too much!

      Lets pray for Mother Zambia!!!!!

    • @Cat Power, I know you are a mechanic (Car-doctor), you can’t compare human with machines.
Human has a SOUL and BODY. Mr. Sata’s soul is so much strong, and you see it now one in-charge. Honestly I have learn a lot from Ba Sata, an illness should not take a strong man down.

    • Some of the nominees to Jubilee LT commenters don’t even have respect of fellow gender. Us men we call each other with chika-l and nsonsonso is because its normal.
I find it sad for Mushota to refer Dora to insults she got from her ex.
Mushota you know me, don’t even dare. XOXOXO

  2. how else do you want them to be open.madam I think it’s time you start talking about real issues and tell us what lessons you have learned since we booted u out of power.I doubt u bounce back with ssuch cheap talk.

    • What are real issues? We have an “absentee landlord” and to you, that is normal. Get over your partisan thinking and for once think of the 14 million Zambians

    • @ Activist: Your comments clearly show how dull we Zambians can be. Don’t look at Dora as an individual but what she is saying. She is right?? Why the secrecy with the President’s illness? Do you know it’s a risk to the nation? It can also cause unnecessary panic? Do you want us to wait for him to die? It is sad our president is sick but PF should manage this crisis better. WE SHOULD LET SAT STEP DOWN, WE ARE BEING UNFAIR TO HIM. We Zambians should encourage him to rest. People in SATA’s circles are evil and on this I support Dora.

  3. God is watching over him. Our president cares about the people of Zambia. He is a man of action and he needs our support.

  4. THE TRUTH SHALL SET US FREE WHILE LIES HAVE SHORT LEGS.I KNEW THAT ONE DAY THE PF GOVT WILL RUN OUT OF LIES AND THEY WILL START TELLING THE NATION THE TRUTH THE WHOLE TRUTH NOTHING ELSE BUT THE TRUTH ABOUT MR SATA’S ILLNESS.THE TRUTH HAS CAUGHT UP WITH THEM.WE WERE TREATED TO ALL SORTS OF LIES AND EVEN THREATENED WITH ARREST FOR MERELY ASKING THE HEALTH AND WHEREABOUT OF SATA BY PEOPLE WHO HAD SWORN TO TELL US THE TRUTH.EVERY PEACE LOVING ZAMBIAN WAS ABLE TO SEE THAT ALL WAS NOT WELL WITH MR SATA.YOU DID NOT NEED TO BE A MEDICAL DOCTOR TO SEE THAT SATA’S HEALTH HAS BEEN DETERIORATING AT A FAST RATE, NOT THAT WE WANTED HIM TO DIE.PEOPLE HAVE NO POWER TO SOMEONE WHEN TO DIE.

    • @Kudos!you are the most bigoted and spiteful blogger on LT. Tell a lot of your miserable upbringing and of those that raised you. I can see you choking with envy and jealous at successful people. Get a life and work your rotten and stinky ass perhaps then you will afford the basics with your failed PF one term project

    • Isn’t this skull head aka Saulosi? They blog with same hatred, ridicule and contempt…. I see that their opposite number, Wanzelu is a propagandist but certainly not vulgar like Kudos and Saulosi who lace their diatribe with Bemba invectives and who are accompanied on their insulting escapades by Mushota. That has been my observation.

    • Bed wetting in adults could be a sign of intense emotional Trauma OR just old age….incontinence. Overweight adults have too much pressure on the bladder from all the fat and expansion of the body.

Since none of the above diagnosis are particularly pleasant which ever way; I would plum for intense emotional trauma for Dora. The Sata issue has left too traumatised!

  5. Be OPEN in Giving the fruit between your LEGS so that we FORGIVE U and we push for u to continue being MP look what NJALA can do , u used to be quite but NOW u have started opening your dirty MOUTH ,i hope you are not planning to issue more statements

  6. Dora the govt is open. They have told you that the president has gone for medical check up. What else do you want them to say? Do you want them to say that the president is extremely ill, he collapsed last night, so we have flown him to a military hospital in Israel pray for him? This detail is not necessary my dear Dora. As you have said we all know the president is not well…that is all.

    • Dora is very right & has a point don’t waste time blaming her, There is no openness in Chella’s Statement. The Nation has not been told whether this is a routine check-up or he had a problem. Everyone keeps guessing about the president’s health.
      Lets support each other wisely.
Remember everyone who is blogging here is probably under one roof. If it collapses everyone will be affected.
      Enjoy wisely.

  7. Yes be open mwaiche. The truth has a funny way of coming back to embarrass to who try to dress up unpleasant faces.

  8. It is useful to state the truth to avoid speculations the presidency is the public asset that must be fully functional. Prudent advice is for the president to take a deserved rest until he is well enough .to get sick is human we should not be ashamed to state. Wish Edgar lungu the best although juggling with many positions.

  9. People people State House announced that President Sata has been flown abroad for medical check-up, how else on earth do you want them to be open? Unless you have more information about the president which State House does not have or you have a hidden agenda?

  10. We dont need to know his health matters, but the best thing is for us to pray for the Head of state to get well soonest, be human Dora

  11. I am not a fan of Dora the Explorer but issues to do with the President are public and not pubic, therefore we need to know what is happening to the presido. He missed national prayers, he will now miss probably the most important independence celebrations we have ever had since 1964, with other head’s of state in attendance. We deserve answers why the host of the party has suddenly left while preparations are still going on. If you think you do not, well that’s your opinion but I definitely think I do!

  12. What more can we add-on on the deadwood patient in State House. ..eating taxpayer’s funds for doing absolutely nothing for the past 8 months. When we told you that the old man we witnessed on 19/09/2014 was in absolutely no condition to run a primary school tuckshop you insulted us…now it waking up time for your docility and passivity.

  13. The most important characteristic that distinguishes us human being from animals is our ability to learn our mistakes and able to figure out things as they are played right before our eyes. Now, look at Mushota’s contribution above, I consider this to be blasphemous to god that one could exhibit such gutless snobbery on a matter as obvious as day and night. I mean, even blindness in the worst extreme does not strike such gutless levels of stupidity as Mushota is showing. Something calamitously wrong happened on the table of creation when this whore was sired!

  14. Let the Government declare a day of prayers for the President, if not let the all churches lead this CALL, now that the Government has acknowledged the situation. Please hear my plea

  15. This is really crazy Dora. U know it that His Excellency is unwell so what kind of openness do u want from that.. Undress him??? Please go ahead and do as u wish.

    Thanks

  16. Suppose the President is still at state house and being weak and sick, those around him have though he won’t be able to go through the independence celebrations. Maybe they have just released this so as to avoid the drama of him appearing in public. I believe he is still around but they are managing this issue so we don’t have him for the celebrations. How timely this medical check up is only to happen a few days before the celebrations. Was it that urgent that he could not wait to only have a medical check up after the event. And don’t we have doctors in zambia including the wife that can do medical check up on him. Either the man is gasping for breath or this is a mere gimmick not to show him to the public. After 24 October no other event coming so he will hibernate for a long time.

  17. Poor comments from Dora. Speaking for the sake of being heard.
    1. She has not told us what extra information she needs.
    2. How much more open can a govt be in telling the nation that the president is sick. Do you want medical records?

Mr. President, get well soon. You are one of the best things that has happene to Zambian in recent times.

  18. Can someone please confirm rumors swirling around in Tel Aviv that the Zambian president arrived in that country this morning dead aboard a salaula private jet?

    • That would be a very long flight! He left Sunday evening! Any way probably international media trying to sell papers.

  19. Far more important for Dora, is to address her overweight self, in that picture she looks very well dressed and the colour of the dress suites her skin tone! She is bloated around the face spoiling her good looks.

Dora, Take up Yoga, Brisk Walking or Swimming all those are easy and enjoyable, but extremely effective. I did 1.5hr of Yoga yesterday, I did not feel its effect until I went to bed when my muscles let me know I had worked them! Am on target to shed for Xmas treats.

Now I recommend you go for a medical checkup first if you do not exercise frequently, but……….shhhhhh, the press might get hold of your medical checkup and create fantasies of your health like you do of others.

  20. Falling ill is a natural body function which can happen to anyone regardless of social status, however government needs to open up and tell us what is really going to avoid breeding speculation especially in the online media. Maybe the President needs to be excused from national duty to according the chance to regain his strength. Get well soon bakateka..May God’s will prevail.

  21. There is a big posibility Sata has been poisoned. There is just No way people could constantly expecting him to die if nothing had been done. Look at what happened to Chiluba and the cover up of post mortem. Remember the cop who was fired? Wake up people.

  22. SOME PEOPLE SPEAK FOR THE SAKE OF SEEKING ATTENTION. THERE IS NOTHING NEW THAT DORA HAS SAID. WHAT DOES SHE WANT TO KNOW?

LET ME TRRY TO HELP HER. HIS EXCELLENCY PRESIDENT MICHAEL SATA HAS BEEN UNWELL FOR ALMOST 18 MONTHS NOW AND HAS BEEN ABROAD SEVERAL TIMES FOR SPECIALIST MEDICAL ATENTION, INCLUDING ISRAEL.

THE NATURE OF THE ILLNESS IS UNKNOWN BUT THE PRESIDENT HAS LOST CONSIDERABLE WEIGHT AND SEEMS THAT HE EASILY GETS TIRED. HE WAS HOWEVER STRONG ENOUGH TO ENDURE A 23 HOUR FLIGHT TO TO THE UNITED STATES TO SPEAK AT THE UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY BUT UNFORTUNATELY WAS UNABLE TO TAKE HIS SESSION FOR SOME UNEXPLAINED REASON.

THE BEST FOR YOU DORA IS KEEP LOW PROFILE AND PRAY FOR HIM INSTEAD OF TALKING FOR THE SAKE OF TALKING.

  23. May the Grace of God be upon our President (H.E MCSATA).May the God that has sustained him all these years continue to give him grace, strength and life . Dwelling on the past is evil and whoever does not have change of mind in the way he or she may look at things in the later times may be dead. Yes ,the President may have commented in the negative on others at that time but should not be a weapon for any right thinking person to cast ill wishes on him. We are Christians, let us unite as a Country and pray for our dear Parent and President. The family certainly is passing through hard times now and need more of our support than politics. Remember, victory to the Country lies in how we handle stressful moments. Love you all pals.

  24. As far as the latest information from state house is concerned, MCS is fine.
From what I know, a medical check up is routinely done to search for or diagnose occult/covert disease, or to investigate the indicators of such in an otherwise healthy individual. So he is fine!
Unless scraping his dentures or changing the lenses of his spectacles is more important (and urgent) to MCS than attending, let alone gracing the jubilee celebrations, I expect he will come back in time. Otherwise, let’s all face it: who would want to have a man with such a messed up order of priorities as “the boss”?
We shouldn’t all worry, lest we burst a vein (unless your know more than has been said).
He just went for a “check up”. Its routine!
So chill everyone. Like we have been told repeatedly, the…

  25. Ba Dora, the only thing you know about being open are your legs. Did you what disease killed Chiluba and Mwanawasa? Medical records are personal, not for every body to know. Ok, PF should just tell the nation that the President is poorly, and that is enough, it is not in the national interest to have a catalogue of illness afflicting Sata.

  26. Vultures!!! So now after you get the information that the president is indeed not well what next. Zambia is a beautiful country but i must ssay our politicians are vultures who would attack at a time when needed most. our president needs our support not attacks from left right and centre. Dora or whoever she might be is acting selfishly because we all know why she went to visit him. just so she can come back and say i saw him and indeed he is sick so what next let us get reed of him. he needs us just like we needed him when we voted for him. he has been a good president and a great worker for the people of the country. let us repay him by praying for him and encouraging him and his family during this difficult time. Dora get real. the fact is you are not going to make presidency.

  27. Can someone answer the following questions for me. I may then get a better understanding of this circumstances we are in

    1. Does one go for medical check-up with the ‘whole entire’ family?
    2. Who is paying the bill for this ‘whole entire’ family?

I, as employer do not remember a clause on his contract of employment stating that we will cover travel and other expenses for the ‘whole entire’ family.

Is he on sick leave or has he abandoned his work station? I, as employer need to be informed well in advance to give the go-ahead.

    Bane, help.
