Labour movement warns of disaster if Draft Constitution is not released this week

Share

The National Union of Industrial and Commercial Workers has warned that Zambia will experience disaster if the PF Government does not honour its pledge to release the draft constitution this week.

National Union of Industrial and Commercial Workers Secretary General Seth Paradza warned that his union will join forces with other civil society organizations to press government to release the document.

Mr Paradza hoped that Government will be magnanimous and give Zambians the draft constitution as promised.

In an interview in Lusaka, Mr Paradza observed that the 2015 national budget allocation to the constitution making process shows that Government does not intend to conclude the process anytime soon.

“I foresee disaster if the document is not released as promised this week then it will add to the many promises that have not been fulfilled, we are really worried,” Mr Paradza said.

He said the labour movement will work with other progressive forces such as the NGOs to organise street demonstrations over the draft constitution.

“Just like the labour movement is planning to demonstrate over the wage freeze, we are also planning to join other Zambians in demonstrating over the release of the draft constitution. This hide and seek should not continue forever,” Mr Paradza said.

    • ALL governments to date have worked at gun point. Are student riots starting with the PF government? No. Are workers rising up and striking against various causes starting with the PF government? No. The point is, you have recycled the same leaders under different names so don’t expect that things will be different just because the one who was in MMD is now in PF, or the one who was in UNIP is now in PF… We need to dig into collective memory if we are to solve the decision making operations we undertake!

    • PF have dug their own grave. They shouldn’t think that by winning these tuma bye elections they will also win any general election? Right now there is confusion in government with their leader a cabbage now. This will be an easy victory for any formidable opposition party in an event of a presidential bye election. A Lot of things are not OK in the country.

  1. They can stuff the constitution up their stinking âss. I’m denouncing my citizenship and adopting a real democratic & more civillized country!

  2. Stop wasting our time you monkey. You have been saying that you will demonstrate for the past 3 years and nothing has happened. You buffoons are cowards. Look at Hong Kong who has a 17 year old leader of the demonstrations there. Today is Wednesday and you only have 3 days up to Saturday. If the Pama fi won’t give you the Constitution which they won’t,let’s see if you have balls to demonstrate. I already know the answer.

    • @Chumbu Munshololwa, you raise an interesting point. Hong Kong is forward looking. If that 17 year old was in Zambia he would first be ridiculed and turned against by his fellow demonstrators even before he states his case. That is a mindset problem we have in that part of the world. I sense the frustration in @BAPS Black African Princess; there are things that work seamlessly elsewhere that are a major event in Zambia. It is appalling; I usually see the same in some of @Mushota’s comments (albeit with a lot of satire and sarcasm to boot).

  3. ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS!

These PF liars are laughing at the stupid docile Zambians while they are busy stealing all the money the can!

  4. The biggest mistake PF has made is to allow people who failed MMD to be active in a new govt. FAZ,Labour movement,Some NGOs and Heads of govt department

  5. magnanimous
    /ma??nan?m?s/
    adjective: magnanimous

    synonyms: generous, charitable, benevolent, beneficent, open-handed, big-hearted, great-hearted, munificent, bountiful, liberal, handsome, princely, altruistic, kind, kindly, philanthropic, chivalrous, noble; More unselfish, selfless, self-sacrificing, ungrudging, unstinting; forgiving, merciful, lenient, indulgent, clement;
    literary bounteous.

NOWONDER WE DONT HAVE A PEOPLE DRIVEN CONSTITUTION. UNIONS THINK GOVERNMENT IS BEING KIND BY PROMISING TO RELEASE THE DRAFT CONSTITUTION?

  6. UNIONS OF THREATS! Zambian unions are so good at issuing threats. Why? Unions either know what they are doing, or they don’t! Government is now so used to getting threats from the unions; it is anticipated and therefore a non effective strategy.

  7. The problem is when you think you can only make a name by fighting the govt.computers are very effective yet do not produce noise. if you belv you are in computer age then reduce noise and do alot of thinking

  8. PF will live to regret this opportunity they have wasted for themselves. Instead of ruling for 2 terms worth 10 years, they are now struggling to even finish their first term. If presidential by-elections were to be called right now PF is losing big time …and by-elections will soon be, because Sata is not reaching 2016.

PF will break the record of the party with the shortest term in government ever since Zambia became independent. It says a lot about the IQ levels of the people dominating the political offices and government agencies right now. My father was right about empty calabashes: when you meet someone who is loud and talks too much, immediately doubt their IQ. That is the characteristic of those in government. They have chased out everybody who is different from them.

  9. The zambian Unions can only strike for salary increments. What they are saying now is jst a mouthful no action at all from these cowards uninspiring leaders from pf to unions all busy amassing wealth at the expense of the poor ignorant, easily cowed, duped zambians.
