Press Release

His Excellency Mr Rupiah Bwezani Banda, the Fourth President of the Republic of Zambia, has said Zambia’s 50th independence anniversary is time for all the citizens to dream new dreams and embrace each other.

The former head of state has also called on God’s blessings on His Excellency, Mr Michael Chilufya Sata, the President of the Republic of Zambia, as Zambia’s commemorates her Golden Jubilee.

In his message on the eve of Zambia’s 50th independence anniversary, President Banda says now is the time for all Zambians to forgive each other as brothers and sisters regardless of origin, language, culture, religion or political affiliation.

“We are, before God, all one people, strong and free. This Jubilee time is the time to dream new dreams, embrace new hopes, and stand as one people,” counselled President Banda.

He said Zambians should look back at the past 50 years with gratitude, happiness and joy, and be grateful for the many men and women who have selflessly sacrificed and dedicated their lives to the cause of liberation, freedom, justice and common good.

“At 50, we look back but also forward. The vision of the liberation struggle has been achieved. It is past us now. But the vision for the future lies with us as we are at this threshold.

“As your past servant of this great country, I pray for all Zambian people and all who love us and celebrate with us that the blessings of our almighty God come upon our beloved President, our leaders from opposition political parties, our Government, civic leaders and all Zambians,” he said.

He hoped that the joy and warmth that characterise the Zambian people would continue and that Zambia’s unity would continue being a beacon of hope for more blessings to come

    • The Former presidents message is warm and stately, reflective yet inspiring hope for the future. It’s time for Zambia to dream big again like we did in 1964.Its time for a new vision,a new young leadership to take us forwards.Happy 50th independence day to mother Zambia!!!!!!

    • Ba RB, good message indeed it’s time to dream new dreams and also the time to dream of new young leadership especially in the presidency. You old guys have done a lot and we thank you so much. Enjoy your retirement Ba Banda and please do not be cheated that Zambians want you back. Bon voyage.

    • @Ex-moma, you were not there in 1964.
How do you know the dream of RB, maybe he is dreaming of becoming president. Ba Sata will fight it hard and come out of his health stronger. Nobody is dying again, no ways, and no chance for RB.

  1. F**K your joys!!!, F**K your pains!!, F**K your everything! All that maters today is UBUNTUBGWA!! Sadist and sceptics will “celebrate” by complaining and listing all the problems we may have and those they imagine we have while happy and optimistic people will celebrate with thanks in there harts of what and who we are 50 years down the line and positive projection of our future! Some people being sad and negative is who they are and are happy that way, they die complaining and pointing at faults while other are a complete opposite! such is life!!

  2. Is the Rupiah Comeback call,a new dream?I don’t think so.So let Rupiah walk the talk.Since Rupiah’s Leadership is definately NOT the New Leadership dream for Zambia, especially in this Jubilee Season. He should stay away from this Rupiah Comeback Nosense.

  3. Celebrating with below average or negative progress in human development & economic development is synonymous to insanity @ or primitivity at 50 years after political independence.Celebrations amidst amass of lies & police brutality tantamounts to social unrest & instability as well as anarchy which bleeds security dilemma & balkanization. Talking about real social evils pervasive in our society today shall never be mistaken to being sceptical & mare complain to a civilised, radical & rational Zambian citizenry especially amidst pervasive poverty & injustices. We know some bloggers are ever living in utopic zambia since independence & these are the compulsion sycophantic ghosts that have held zambia at ransom-THEY MUST GO NOW!

  4. It is time to dream new dreams without all the tired, backward-looking, has-run, has-been mentalities that we have for so long put up with. RB stay put. We are now dreaming new dreams! New players, new realities, new ball game! Thanks for your message anyway.

  5. Good message Bo RB. If this is what you were during your term of presidency, I think Zambians would have voted for you. But alas you were just as bad as yourselve, no wonder Zambians chased you. Hope you have genuinely repented of your evil ways.
Any way good message to Zambians.

Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.

  6. After 50 years of Independence the elderly who fought for this country are penniless and starving.. I called Zambia today retired Zambians are starving!! My 90 yrs old stepdad have no food TODAY he is starving after working hard for “peanuts” in the mines more for than 25 years!!!
His eldest son is also working in the mines for peanuts… and cannot afford to help the poor old man!!

SHAME ON YOU ZAMBIA FOR NEGLECTING THOSE THAT MADE YOU!!

  7. Bakabwalala balefwaya ukubwela for the third time. RB just go to hell. You are irrelevant to 21st century needs. Dont waste your time.
