Government has applauded Zambians for celebrating the golden jubilee through various activities that took place before and on the Independence Day.

Vice president Guy Scott said it is important for the nation to hold its country in high esteem and not to be reluctant about its notable achievements.

ZANIS reports that the Vice President said this during the independence golden jubilee official breakfast in honor of freedom fighters in Lusaka today.

Dr. Scott applauded the freedom fighters for the contribution they made during Zambia’s attainment of independence.

The vice president noted that now is the time to remember what the country has achieved and to acknowledge each other.

Meanwhile Dr. Scott wished president Sata was at the event in honoring the freedom fighters.

The vice president said it is his greatest wish that president Sata arrives back home from his medical checkup in good health.

And freedom fighter mama Chibesa Kankasa in her vote of thanks praised government for recognizing the efforts of the freedom fighters.

Mama Kankasa said that government has been very supportive in attending to the plights of the freedom fighters a thing which she said should continue.

Meanwhile, Vice President Guy Scott says his greatest prayer is for President Michael Sata’s wellbeing.

Dr. Scott said this in Lusaka yesterday when he hosted an independence lunch in commemorating Zambia’s Golden Jubilee.

Dr. Scott also thanked all the foreign and local dignitaries who came for the golden Jubilee celebrations.

He thanked Zambians for showing patriotism and turning up in numbers to celebrate the historic event in peace and dignity.

First President Kenneth Kaunda, Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini and other senior government officials were among some of the notable figures who attended the lunchon.

The event was punctuated by traditional music, dance and performance.

Some of the foreign dignitaries that attended the lunch were the former President of Botswana, the Prime Minister of Mozambique, the Vice Presidents of Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya and Burundi and several foreign affairs Ministers.

    • Thanks Scott. I love these pictures and really feel that i missed out. On a sad note, Lungu looks like a toyboy to his wife! No malice intended but i think he got himself a sugar mummy!

    • Calisthenics reminds me of Muthill ZNS pass out parade of April 1981 after doing my six months compulsory military training with then “1 star General” 2nd Lt Phiri; MHSRIP. I did my time under staff seargent ‘Kambulumata’, seargent Nsama and corporal Katwamba of the look future fame!

I participated in the immaculate ‘nkondo nkondo’ silent drill during passout; it was so fabulously fantastically executed with minute precision! That passout made men out of the boys!!

I salute our men and women in uniform and the officers! By the way HH was in same intake and perhaps in C Coy.

    • Where is HH . The man is a joke at this crucial time

Personally I would like this to have not taken place , because the MAN was busy doing some small check up abroad and i would have preferred for this to have waited for him to be honest.

It feels wrong and surreal but I know he will be back stronger to lead the PF strongly until 2021
      Good job though

      Thanks

    • @Mushota

I respect that you are a Bemba PF corybant. However, I despise you for your unitary agenda to demonise someone who perhaps in my estimation is one of the finest citizens of Zambia. From his days in that Economics class at unza to his days in then Coopers & Lybrand to when he led the Grant Thornton team, HH has been a good example and a fighter for justice. I recall when late President Chiluba refused to shake his hand to the protestations of his tribesmen, HH was able to deal with that and move on. Those of us in the know are aware of how a certain tribe from Congo forest looted during privatisation. Yet the same lying tribe want to smear HH with their theft in born trademark. Nothing will change of their lies and theft + corruption. It’s in born.

    • I really wonder what goes on in ‘Dr’ Guy Scott’s head. This was a hige opportunity a vice to step up and be counted as the second in command.
Now to only turn up to thank the people after you “supposedly” jnr has stollen the show must be painful to say the least. More so that two other very Senior PF ministers have both pointed out that Guy Scott should be removed from that position. I talking about Chikwanda and Bob Sichinga, albeit through secret recordings. The truth is that they dont approve of him just like many Zambians who see through the PF and its leadership.
Scott is also on record (Africa 360) that it was only “online” media speculation that Sata was sick and unable to grace the Golden Jubilee. I would love to get his view now…

    • @Siamanengo…

Yes…my blood boils with excitement too when I see the pictures of ZNS officers doing it. My 1979/80 intake “passed-in” in 1980 to proceed to Chisamba ZNS camp from where i proceeded to UNZA GERC. I was a year ahead of humble HH at UNZA and knew him through UNZABECA. He was an intelligent but very humble down to earth young man. I recall how HH was able to remember me when he saw me at L/stone airport in 2010. Despite being surrounded by his senior party officials he found time to talk me and some civil servants who were seeing off an MMD Cabinet Minister at the airport.
Obviously the bloggers who are busy demonising this humble Zambian are full of envy and very prejudiced. HH and Grant Thornton were not the only receivers contracted by the Govt during privatisation.

    • @Let me say this….

Membe was my school mate at then UNZANDO (circa ’80-’84). And I agree when he talks of a “Bemba corrupt clique”. Not all Bembas.

Make no mistake, I now have family (through kids marrying) and grand children from some very nice Bemba folks who I deeply respect. However, I am angered when those of the Bemba lunatic fringe default to the inborn Congo diaspora corrupt thief style accusations of the innocent.

In these days of my hoary hairs, I have proved that some Bembas are tribalistic and thieves.

Some Bembas label others as being tribalistic and thieves to cleanse themselves of their trade marks and the fact that across Luapula river live their relatives. Heard of one Moses Katumbi of Tambabashila? Today he is Governor in Congo!! Some…

    • Good Message: But in such occasions / speech I would expect a picture of VP and Acting President together?? Is it LT or something is fishy that the man was protesting for not being picked as the Acting to head of state??
Nevertheless Lungu looked great in the pictures. The Zambian Shirt looks Nish. Well done and congratulations.

  1. You are welcome Guy Scott.
Thank you too, and especially to Bana Scott Charlotte and Bana Dalitso Lungu, they did a great job.

    • @Nostradamus
Readers this gentleman could be Chanda Chashi a.k.a. Reuben Chanda who claims to be in Chicago. Although his blog shows an American flag, he could be writing from Zambia. In many cases the location of the blogger is guided by the computers IP. He could have bought the computer while in the U.S. He has provided a clue to his true identity in his blog in the “50 years…what exactly?” in this medium. Access it and read between the lines. We are dealing with a very dangerous person here.

    • Ernst and Young was the receiver for creditors at Kapiri Glass it collapsed due to alleged sabotage by workers because of insensitivity to their plight. Yet no one is pointing a finger at the person who was CEO for Ernst & Young at the time. Of course I do not imply in any way that the CEO or indeed staff of Ernst & Young at the were personally to blame. It was hard for everyone involved. Any right thinking Zambian would know that had HH mishandled the affairs of Luanshya Mine, Grant Thornton would have dealt with him before even the successive Zambian govts – from Levy Mwanawasa (who did not tolerate corruption), to RB and currently, Mr Sata. HH would have been rotting in jail by now. People like Mushota, Gen. at al just have personal grudges against HH or Tongas in general. God…

    • @Let me say this… Oyaya…Siamanengo

I am older than Zambia Jubilee. I too know HH as you have described him; humble, intelligent, wise and hard working.

Are we rich because we stole or privatised some parastatal; certainly not me and that in my knowledge includes HH. He was fortunate to be CEO at an early age and served on ‘big paying’ boards like BBZ and he worked hard and invested wisely.

Young people do the same and in a couple of decades you too will be rich. There is an accurate way of accumulating wealth without theft let alone plunder!

  2. AND WE THANK YOU MR VICE PRESIDENT FOR HAVING WORKED SO HARD FOR OUR COUNTRY IN TRYING TO IMPROVE THE ECONOMY AND POLITICAL STATE OF ZAMBIA. YOU ARE A VERY HARD WORKING ZAMBIAN. NOT MANY ZAMBIANS KNOW ZAMBIA THE WAY YOU DO. NOT MANY ZAMBIANS REALISE THE IMPORTANCE OF CULTURE AND HERITAGE THE WAY YOU ADVOCATE IT AND FOR DOCUMENTATION. WHILE MANY ZAMBIANS (PF) SPEND MOST OF THEIR TIME GOSSIPING ON WHO SHOULD/SHOULDN’T BE THE NEXT PRESIDENT, YOU SPEND ALL YOUR TIME ON HARD WORK TOWARDS IMPROVING THE ECONOMIC AND POLITICAL STATE OF THE COUNTRY. I WOULD URGE ALL MY RELATIVES AND FRIENDS TO VOTE FOR YOU IF IT HAPPENED THAT YOU ARE RUNNING FOR PRESIDENCY.

    • THANKS GO TO DR CHARLOTTE SCOTT, TOO WHO IS BRAVE AND HAS IGNORED ALL THE INNUENDOS THAT GO ROUND BY RACISTS AND THE RACIAL INSULTS THAT ARE DIRECTED AT DR GUY SCOTT ESPECIALLY FROM HH AND HIS UPND. SHE IS A STRONG HARD WORKING LADY. AND WE ARE PROUD OF YOU. AND I AM PERSONALLY, VERY PROUD OF YOU. THANK YOU FOR YOUR EFFORTS IN WONDERFULLY ORGANISING THIS EVENT. GOD BLESS YOU MR AND MRS SCOTT, AND ALL WELL MEANING ZAMBIANS.

  3. Kenya had 13 heads of state at her golden jubilee celebrations but Zambia only got vice presidents and foreign ministers? And fyi Kenya’s jubilee somewhat conflicted with Mandela’s memorial. This shows Zambia has no clout and hasn’t achieved much so there’s not much to celebrate.

  4. the only thing these white people like guy scott have done is to take our copper and gemstones. these chicalas can polish my bottom with coconut oil any day and then massage my balls with butterscotch cream. evans mfula at evaduco reporting live from lusaka and hiding from kitwe boys

  5. Enka, we Zambians are proud of what we have achieved over 50 yrs. Kenyans are proud of their achievements and more shortcomings that we are still witnessing. Therefore evey time to compare with your friend may lead you to destruction . My friend drives sports car , lives in twelve bedroom house . I also need the same that is not what life is all about. Zambia has helped South Africa, zimbambwe, Namibia, Angola, Mozambique and is a safe haven/ beacon of hope for many of our brothers and sisters who may have faced atrocities in the home lands and have found peace, generosity, kindness and love from us . Therefore it does not make sense for you to be driven by short thinking

    • It is quite clear to any one who cares why not a single Head of State came to our Golden Jubilee celebration and why no Head of State will come to Zambia for a State visit. It is because under PF and its leadership our country has become a laughing stock to the international Community, not to be taken seriously by any decent country. Our economy is holding up because of Chikwanda’s personal resistance to destructive pressures that have been so relentless but mostly because of the very strong macro fundamentals and structural resilience that PF found in 2011. I do not see any change in the quality of leadership until the economy has been completely destroyed. That is when citizens will wake up. It is unbelievable that people do not understand why the whole world ignored our Golden Jubilee.

    • Hey, can someone please tell these educated dunderheads that very few people if any cares to read messages written in all-caps because it simply is unfriendly to the eyes. I mean it is difficult to read. If you are not writing to yourself, then write what people can read!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. yes Scott, everyone is talking about jubilee not giving the reasons why we celebrate it.the reason is becoz your fore fathers brutalized us,refused us,abused us
.please also condemn those corlonial masters from
Britain.you son of the slave driver.

  7. Ba Siamanengo ine I was in F company with 2nd Lt Nyirenda and Master Sergeant Simbeye. Those were real golden days at Mushili camp with Goliati as our head cook! ZNS trained you to be a man and to this day some of my best friends I met them at Ndola Mushili camp. ZNS was originally a good idea but the powers that be allowed the living standards at these camps to deteriorate leading to cholera outbreaks. Yes I do remember HH as he had just graduated from Kalomo Secondary School and then proceeded with him to UNZA and sat in the same economics class as him. A self made man (HH) but people like Mushota are blinded by tribal hatred that they will never even give him an inch.

    • @Oyaya…

I liked Lt Nyirenda, he was so ‘sharp’! Oh yes, Simbeye too I remember. You were our neighbours. And what of the kaleza from ‘mawilo’….and that sumptous rotten beans!! We used to sing…. ingati bwali bwashota mawilo takwete mulandu… mawilo yeyeye……

  8. Number 1: I’d like to see less military and more culture and cultural display!

Number 2: Where is the acknowledgement of the tragedy on independence day? VP should address himself to those lives lost! MTSRIP

  9. What is wrong with Mrs Lungu’s nostrils! Good lord, sitting next to her is it not asphyxia laryngospasm we are talking about here? No wonder Lungu looks ghostly all the time, his wife takes much of the oxygen around them.

  10. Yes, it was good to go down Zambia’s memory lane. You need not celebrate as the successive black governments have sometimes forgotten that independence from Britain was not only to get rid of racism, demeaning treatment and economic exploitation but to gain freedom of expression including political expression, freedom of assembly, freedom to feel Zambian regardless of the size of one’s tribe. It is sad that under PF the Public Order Act has been used almost as it was done during colonial rule – suppressing political expression, assembly and dividing Zambians into tribal camps. I now believe that Mr Sata is not well because he would have realised this by now and acted. What with KK so near him, the KK who introduced one-party rule as a tool to eliminate tribalism in this country. KK??

    • @Let me say this… and Oyaya

Those of us who are contemporaries of HH and Fred Membe (above 50 years) and now rich people should raise our voices so that his country is not messed up with the tribalism that has reared its ugly head.

Kudos aka Saulosi Mushota are paid pf agents who do not care the looming catastrophe that will face our grand children if tribalism now promoted through their rabid senseless tribal hatred of HH is not stopped.

HH and others including me are rich because we made wise choices. We lived during a golden era where theft was not glorified as it now is.

  11. jubilee celebration was another time Zambians never recognized the political ‘borders’. Those who never attended must know these two things: First, Zambians ignored their unpatriotic calls not to attend the celebrations; second, history will teach them a bitter lesson: when they shall become leaders people will never respond positively to their calls of unity. How shall they feel?

  12. The performances by ZNS staff brings back my memories of the Form five compulsory military training that we were going through. That time there were alot of uneducated instructors who used to ill treat us. Thank God I survived. Some how the training has helped me to cope up in difficult situations and conditions.

  13. PF may think building roads everywhere is a guarantee for them winning any future election. They are not building these roads with their own money; these roads are not a donation from them to the Zambian people. These are projects that are being paid for by the Zambian people themselves. It is not anybody’s money but people’s money paying for these roads. Moreover, Chikwanda himself has made it very clear to all of us that there is a lot of irresistible corruption in the road construction sector.
