Mine Police stun Indeni to prolong Super League stay

Share

Struggling Konkola Mine Police on Saturday thumped fellow demotion threatened side Indeni 2-0 in a FAZ Super League Week 28 tie in Chingola to prolong their stay in the topflight league.

The win pushed Bruce Mwape’s Mine Police from 15th into 14th place on the table with 28 points just two matches before the season ends.

The Chililabombwe club led after two minutes with Emmanuel Phiri beating Indeni keeper Humphrey Mwenya with a high shot.

Indeni tried to come back into the game but were demoralised by defender Moses Loloji who headed into his own net a Ronald Chibwe cross for Mine Police to take a 2-0 lead into the break at Nchanga Stadium.

Two minutes after the restart, Indeni were reduced to ten men after captain Morgan Kanjolo was shown a straight red by referee Audrick Nkole for kicking Phiri in the chest.

This was Kanjolo’s third red card this season.

15th placed Indeni’s stay in the elite league now depends on the performance of other clubs above them as they sit on 27 points.

  1. It is not right to state that KMP have prolonged their stay in the Super League because they are still deep in the relegation waters with two games to go.
