Acting President Edgar Lungu has thanked Zambians for the massive turn out at the Golden Jubilee celebrations countrywide.

In a statement, Mr Lungu expressed gratitude on behalf of President Michael Sata to the people of Zambia for the massive turn out during the celebrations to mark Zambia’s Golden Jubilee.

“The Golden Jubilee was a momentous event for the people of Zambia as it gave the country an opportunity to celebrate our past achievements in the last 50 years and as an opportunity to reflect on the future that lie ahead of us,” Mr Lungu said.

He added, “The past 50 years has been a journey of hope, resilience, peace, unity and development.”
Mr Lungu said to mark the historic occasion, Government ensured that all celebrations reached the people of Zambia.

“It has now been established that Zambians from all walks of lives turned up in large numbers in all provincial capital and districts to commemorate and celebrate this day. Further Zambians were given an opportunity to watch live on television and listen live on radio, on ZNBC. Despite the unpatriotic calls by certain members of the Opposition to boycott the celebrations or to wear black, Zambians from all walks of life defied these disloyal calls from some members of the Opposition as these calls were to the detriment of the peace and unity of Zambia.”

Mr Lungu thanked leaders of the opposition who among others took time to commemorate this important national event.

“Further, Government wishes to thank their Royal Highnesses, Chiefs from various chiefdoms across the country for providing leadership. On this day Zambians demonstrated that they can rise above partisan interests and focus on issues that unite us as a people.”

He said Zambians instead demonstrated commitment to patriotism and a high sense of nationalism by participating in all the Golden Jubilee activities and celebrations.

And Government has thanked the Zambian people for the peace, love and unity with which they celebrated the golden jubilee which fell on Friday, October, 24, 2014.

Minister of Information and Broadcasting Services Joseph Katema said the manner in which the celebrations were held amplifies the fact that Zambians were able to rise above political, ethnic, racial and religious diversity in building a united and peaceful country.

In a statement made available to ZANIS in Lusaka today, Dr. Katema said the celebrations were also testimony of the importance Zambians attach to the freedom struggle which was attained at a great cost and sacrifice.

He said government was particularly happy that Zambians in the diaspora also came together in commemorating the historic event.

Dr. Katema, who is also Chief Government Spokesperson, added that the commemoration of the golden jubilee by those in the diaspora was symbolic of the peace and unity for which Zambia is renowned world over.

Dr. Katema has however urged Zambians to remain united in building a better and prosperous nation beyond 50 years of its political independence under President Michael Sata.

  1. I am getting some suspicious of the Tsunami wave this man is gathering.

Was this the plan/plot all over.

People are suddenly having second thoughts of him the most popular party from 2021 once his highness leave?

    Thanks

    • With a Lozi height and a gentleman’s weight, Lungu would make a very good president; his only obstacle, though, is dishonesty with public resources, something that ended is law career.

    • Bana Dalitso you may be first lady soon. start thinking about your outfits and facial expressions. That flaggy round dress makes you look fat, sorry. Also use some crest whitening strips for your smile.

    • 1.1 Sipinya Ndongo, you forgot something …. With a Lozi height and drinking habit and a gentleman’s weight. Anyway, how come my Lozi acquaintances are very short?

    • @Nubian,
Instead of praising Bana Dalitso to be brave to be by his husband on that nervous day? Bana Lungu lives in Chawama, and to accept that she will be at his side is something I would say THANK YOU Bana Dalitso for such courage, you did a great job.
Ba Charlotte tooo was awesome to take care of both Scott and Super Kenny KK.

    • @1.1
Hau wena that name sipinya of ndongo just splashed a rotten egg smell allover Lusaka times,,, i had spray air freshener before typing my comment

      .
And for Bana Dalisto, great job its not easy to be in love with a man who is also in love with castle lager, and live to see him acting presido

    • @Sipinya Ndongo

KK warned Zambians about Kafupi being a very dishonest man who pocketed K10,000 meant for widows, we didn’t listen because we hated KK and wanted him out. There’s euphoria again about Lungu despite evidence he is a crook who shunts aside professional integrity and loans himself client’s funds. Going by what people dragged into state house in 2011 I can’t put it beyond them to empower another dishonest fellow again.

    • @Nostradamus
This could be Chanda Chashi a.k.a. Reuben Mwansa the man wanted in Chicago for threatening a fellow Zambian with death. Although his blog shows a U.S. flag he blogs outside the U.S. In many cases the location of the blogger is identified by the computers IP. He has provided a clue to his true identity at “50 Years…What exactly” Access it and read between the lines. We are dealing with a very dangerous person here. His blogging will now help the U.S. investigators to track him down.

    • Just as an advice. No one can think on behalf of HE Micheal Chilufya Sata. Ask Wynter Kabimba. Lets not jeopardise the good job Edgar Lungu is doing by frosting him into tribal looks. Sata is very insightful elo temunobe nga wamena mangala. Lets protect our acting president by being more objective rather than putting him also on the chopping board.

    • We thank you The PF for not beating up people across the country. You thugs.
I don’t it is Sata , Kabimba or Judge Ngoma who used to take advantage of gathering, including in church… beating. I think it is over now.

  2. Sipinya sa Puli that is our Mushota the PHD student for you who bought her education in Glasgow after UNZA would not admit her!

  3. That is good acknowledging the people who participated unlike the dishonest black maamba boy who went round encouraging people to wear black but he did not.
Thanks to Edgar and his team for making it during the 50th celebration. KEEP IT UP. WHO KNOWS

  4. Edgar Lungu can suck my cork from left to right and also up and down. his wife looks like a hippopotamus and his PF govt can massage my balls with butter cream and eat them. Evans Mfula at Evaduco reporting live from arcades

  5. HH was busy urging his supporters to wear black on Friday when he could not do that himself while in Chawama. One wonders what sort of advisers he has. I do not see strategic thinking in his ally Dr Canicious Banda. Ndeloleshafye

  6. Lungu has brought some sanity to a party that was totally out of hand, I salute you sir, keep up the good work and rid the government of snakes.

  7. Ndobo my friend, my job involves travel so I have been up and about. I did miss you guys though but I ‘m back at my office now. My friend Cindy has also disappeared in thin air! Where is she?

  8. Even though Zambia has come a long way from 50 year’s ago we are still not independent because we don’t control our own resources foreigners do, until the day we take control and make sure the billions made on resources stay in Zambia then we will all feel true freedom because life style would improve from wages to amenities etc

  9. Good morning people of Zambia. Interesting to note the dying of speeches of hate and violence in our country. I f this momentum can be maintained, then we can have peaceful political campaigns from all participating groupings. Campaigns of economic progress. Now can we put on spotlight all those that are bent on creating confusions and have our Zambia Police on the look out to ensure orderliness cutting across political parties without favour or bias. Human Rights have to be respected now and just now, not just talking, NO. Let all involved in campaigns not disadvantage the other by following set out rules for the game. This time we will comment strongly on malpractices regardless where the ugly head comes from. we can show the world that we can do better . stay blessed all.

  10. Despite his flaws, it is undeniable that Edgar Lungu conducts himself with a measure of self- respect. Lungu has the support of the majority of the cabinet, Post and others do know his agenda and are confused whether to propel him or repel him.

  11. Apaleangalila imisepela lekeni abakulu batambe amasha . Posewelera anyamata na atsikana lekani akulu atambe mazshya. Looks like Zambian Politics is gradually showing positive signs of ushering into leadership the young Turks. Go go the young ones.

  12. Edgar Lungu will easily defeat HH or anybody!he has really impressed many PF supporters!shame upon HH for advising us Zambians to stay away from jubilee celebrations!thank God nobody listened to him and celebrated in large numbers!please Zambians lets mobilise and defeat HH in the next presidential and retire him forever!we dont need such bad leaders like HH!Viva Lungu!

  13. The ball game is now narrowing down to two main contenders, PF and MMD. It is naked eye to see through. Whereas PF has a President of the Party already, not known yet why there seems to be too much anxiety for top position jostling from the lower echelons. This ,obvious left unchecked gives the other contender clear view of direction. KK used to say “Faka moto” meaning add more power or pressure for glory or victory. MMD Faka moto. Reposition your energy, not unnecessarily attacking your opponents from without but put forth your vision of this country. MMD stands better chance to compete favorably with PF. MMD, are your structures really actively working? We don’t want cry babies all time. Come out of those offices into the fields. Avoid arm chair criticizing. Sell your party well.
