Official Statement of the United Party for National Developement on the passing of the republican President His excellency Michael Chilufya Sata
30th October, 2014

The United Party for National Development (UPND) has learnt of Republican President Michael Chilufya Sata’s sad passing on with a deep sense of sorrow.

On behalf of the UPND and indeed on my own behalf, I convey our heartfelt condolences to the First Lady Dr Christine Kaseba, the Sata family, the Patriotic Front (PF), the Government and the entire nation of Zambia on this tragic loss.

We would like to appeal to the whole nation for calm and peace during this difficult period.

Let us mourn the late President Michael Chilufya Sata and remember the contribution he made to our nation.

Whilst this is a time of national mourning, it is also a time to remember a man who dedicated his entire life to serve our country.

The strength of character he showed in fighting battles was testimony to the strongman he was. He was never afraid to take difficult decisions, nor of the reactions of other people to those decisions.

It is our duty as Zambians to come together now through this period of grieving so that we can come out of it on the other side stronger and more united than ever before.

Whilst we are currently feeling the dark shadows of this long night we are experiencing, it will end and we will wake up together stronger and more resolved to carry our country forward.

Let’s pray for healing and strength in this trying time. Together we all have to overcome this challenge and continue from where President Sata has left off.

MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PEACE

Hakainde Hichilema
UPND President

    • SATA was more DEVILISH than HH. you have a brain smaller that an egg, you forget what SATA said about MWANAWASA even at the point of death. he pretend to mourn following the body of mwanawasa until Maureen told him off because he was campaigning during the funeral period.

we see you are BEMBA because only a bemba can hate HH for no apparent reason.

There is no Bemba in Zambia who is richer than HH because while you steal HH worked for his.

SATA on record wished people like KUNDA death and mocked thier sicknes while HH is on recording wishing SATA good health.

    • Unity is what we need. There is so much that unites us as Zambians . Let us build on that to makeour country great prosperous with equal opportunities for all.I am sure that is what the late president would have loved to see. Thanks HH

    • HH well done. Shame your enemies. There is nothing wrong with HH conveying message on Sata’s death. Please put politics aside. Sata had so many political enemies such as LPM, FTJ and G. Kunda but he attended their funerals. Keep it up HH, this may just be your chance to take the presidency, next year January.

    • Thank you Mr president for conveying a thoughtful, and meaningful message of condolences to the Late Sata ‘s family.

You are the only Hope and Help Zambia needs right now.

    • For your information, lest you were only born not long ago. While in opposition Mr. Sata mocked Mr. Mazoka, President Mwanawasa and Mr. George Kunda on their illnesses but when they died he mourned them and was allowed to attend their funerals. Why should then HH not mourn President? Being political opponents does not mean people are enemies. They just happen to hold different political views. HH should not be vilified for mourning President Sata. President Sata was a President of all Zambians regardless of their political affiliation and they should all mourn him without hindrance.

    • Looks like Maureen Mwanawasa and Nkomeshya are succeeding in killing off those who they view as Mwanawasa’s enemies. Who is next on their list? Make no mistake these two evil women hated President Sata and wanted him dead. Remember the declaration wicked Maureen made at Mwanawasa’s funeral ‘your enemies are now my enemies. Behind closed doors these beasts exposed their true. The fools would seek audiences with the president and demand he does not appoint certain people as presidents. They are beasts who are corrupt and only good for breeding future monsters. My advice to potential presidential candidates and foes’s of Mwanawasa get rid of Maureen Mwanawasa before she takes your life. They will be at the funeral showing fake sympathy and celebrating at their homes.

    • You have started a war you Soli beast. You are an incompetent illiterate leader involved in witch craft . That catholic uniform you put on does not fool anyone. Get off our land before we destroy your kind again. Nonsense savage. You are chief of nothing dog.Don’t forget you only exist because a Lenje King decided to protect your weak ancestors.

  1. What i have observed in most institutions is that the Secretariat issues the statement on behalf of the organization, and the President, or by whatever name called, issues a statement in his personal capacity. This doesn’t seem to be the case with UPND.

    • Mulifisushi fye bonse babili imwe pamulu apo.
If HH doesnt say anything, you start complaining ati “why is HH quiet”? HH expresses his sorrow on passing on of the president, you start insulting him. Muchalo tamwaba chisuma kwena.

    • If you are not happy with HH’s statement go hung! What’s wrong with it? Was Sata not a fighter, did Sata not dedicate his life to civil service (was he not a civil servant) most of his adult life?

  2. This is a man who refused to even attend the JUBILEE celebrations and now he wants to give us crocodile smile, hoping that his time has come to rule ZAMBIA, never. Jubilee celebration was not for SATA but for the country. Has HH got advisers? Ooooh YES, he has seen bye elections coming, so cabipa ba SATA bafwa meanwhile he is very very happy just like his company WATCHDOG. God help us.

  3. Disagreeing on policy and governance issues of the country is far from being enemies. Not everyone of us praised and agreed with Sata over the 90 days campaign message, the U-turn on the Barotse agreement, the New constitution he promised us within 90 days but later changed, the ordering of ACC to get permission from him before probing any of his ministers, the continued stay of Chibesakunda as chief justice even when the people had rejected etc, didn’t mean that we hate mr. Sata. Mr. Sata criticed Chiluba upto the point of death worse still Mr. Mwanawasa whom he called cabbage, does it mean he (mr. Sata) cerebrated the demise of the two presidents, Not at all. Its same with HH. For someone to say HH is cerebrating Mr. Sata death is not only absurd but ignorance at its worst.

  4. @impako You try to harm HH you monkey eater and see how we will drive you back to congo.Your world will be turned upside down and you will wish your mother never bore you ituri forest dweller. From your language one would conlude that you are not genuine Zambian.Plse don’t bring ebola here you swine!

  5. You cannot win in life can you? Damned if he said anything; Damned if he didn’t. Best, though, is to say condolences as HH has done. How this message of condolences will be received is a preserve of those meant to receive it. Lesson: even as we disagree on issues, its vital to learn to agree in a non confrontational way because the day may come when your greatest rival would have to be sent a message of condolences. Zambia is bigger than anyone. Amen

    • @TABWALI, the honest answer to your question is that Cattle increases exponentially over time if well managed. Remember this statement whenever you see a cow. But now is time of mourning, The subject of wealth creation thru investing in cattle can be discussed after burial, dont you think?

    • Why waste time talking about Hakainde’s billions? They are his. His billions are not TONGA or UPND. Neither do they make him a better leader. Bill Gates has more but that does not make him better than Obama or George Bush. You are really decampeigning your hichilema fleebag.

  6. Remember how Maureen Mwanawasa chased Sata from Mwanawasa’s funeral? Why? Sata was just that much of a nuisance even in the death of a political opponent. By comparison, HH is a saint.

  7. tafikwete incito ifyo ba upnd mulelanda ati he was also mocking the friends who av passed on those pipo were jst teasing each other even sata receive a lot of mockery and insults. the majority of us a mourning our beloved president so the coming by election you wil chose yo HH alone and will see cos it has bn high time yo wanted by elctions

    • Chanda ponda you stop being myopic try and accept reality that Sata is dead and when someone dies his sins are gone.HH is in order to mourn Sata.Zambians will decide through the ballot box who the next president will be. So relax don’t panic. Its like you cant sleep HH is a real night mare. underate UPND and HH to your own peril.Chanda what makes you feel if your like don’t vote for HH he will loose.Stop leaving in fools paradise. We the youlths with tribal inclination I need of employment will asher HH in state house, come January.

  8. Kwena Chanda Ponda, teti ukwatekofye amano. Uli mututu sana.

Any person regardless of tribe can be our president provided one meets the qualification criteria

  9. indeed i agree with bembya anyone can rule this country as i say quality has already been found is n this young man hh let him take the ciountry to sucusses zambia require

  10. Why are you people deviding your selves politicaly then you start bringing tribes into contention… If you hate PF, UPND or MMD . That’s your opinion and choice don’t genaralise it for everyone… Don’t devide us we are happy the way we are mind you politicians are just human beings like you and I. So they will make mistakes just like you and I. Grow up people stop behaving kwati mahule….

  11. HH IS EMBARRASING AGAIN!! WHERE WAS HE ALL THIS TIME? HE IS NOT ONLY LATE TO ISSUE THE PRESIDENTIAL CONDOLONCES, HE CAUSES ANOTHER BLUNDER BY BLINDLYI ASKING US TO PRAY FOR HEALING. WHAT HEALING HH? WE WERE PRAYING FOR HEALING BEFORE MR. SATA DIED SND YOU DID NOT EVEN PRAY.

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU SIMPLY MIMIC WHAT OTHERS HAVE SAID WITHOUT THINKING.

WE ARE NOW SEEING ALL THE HYPOCRITES SURFACING.

  12. Come January: Headline- HH beaten clean again. A forlon number 3.
Do not insult me yet, I’ll have enough time to laugh at you up to 2016 when your Billionare rifruf shall be as Moshud Abiola: Very Rich but never happy nor satisfied.

  13. As long as someone is not popular in Eastern, Central, Northern, Luapula, Copperbelt, Lusaka and Muchinga provinces he/she can be a President of Zambia.
Democracy is about numbers and you know which parts of Zambia are highly populated.

  14. Had HH remained in the PF/UPND pact of 2008. He would be Guy Scott’s shoes and 99% assured of being Zambia’s 6th President! Now that water under the bridge!!!!

  15. WERE DID HH WORK HE SOLD LUANSHYA MINES FOR A MEAGRE 25MILLION US DOLLARS AND POCKETED THE REST WHEN THE FIGHT BETWEEN MIKE TYSON AND LENNOX LEWIS AT THAT TIME THE PURSE MONEY WAS 90MILLION US DOLLARS WHAT A SHAME

  16. Come on people, the passing on of somebody should not lead to political disagreements..WE are One Zambia one nation. And this is not a Tonga, nor bemba Nation it is a Zambia for all tribes. And at this moment, let’s us all respect others and ourselves. Thank you
