Government has appealed to members of the public not to go to Embassy Park for the burial of President Michael Sata without invitation.

Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary Bert Mushala said the Presidential burial site can only accommodate 2,000 people.

He said only people with invitation cards will be allowed access to Embassy park to attend the burial of Mr Sata on Tuesday, November 11.

Briefing the press at Cabinet Office in Lusaka today, Mr Mushala said preparations for the state burial of Mr Sata are progressing well.

He said the body of President Sata is lying in state at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre and will on Monday November 10 be taken to parliament for a ceremonial send off.

Thereafter President Sata’s body will lie in state at State House and will be taken to the National Heroes Stadium on Tuesday for a requiem mass.

The Permanent Secretary advised the general public who will not be invited to Embassy Park to instead attend the requiem mass for President Sata on Tuesday at the National Heroes Stadium.

He also urged people to monitor the proceedings of the state funeral from the big screen television sets that will be placed at the Lusaka Show grounds, Woodlands and Nkoloma stadiums.

Mr Mushala further appealed to people not to travel to Lusaka for the burial as government has acquired big screen television sets that will be placed in districts to avail people an opportunity to follow the state funeral which will also be broadcast live on ZNBC.

He appealed to people to mourn and bury President Sata peacefully and in a dignified way.

Meanwhile, Mr Mushala has urged the media in the country to report positively about the state funeral and unite the country in the midst of President Sata’s death.

Over 320 local and foreign journalists from various media houses have applied for accreditation to cover the burial of President Sata.

Mr Mushala who was flanked by ZANIS Director Patrick Lungu said there will be a limited number of local and foreign journalists who will be allowed to cover the proceedings of the state funeral as submitted by various media organisations.

About nine heads of State and government and other world leaders will attend the funeral of President Sata who will be buried on Tuesday November 11, 2014.

President Sata died on October 28 at a London hospital.

  1. Imwe ma guyz, invitation cards ku malilo na ku manda futi? Awe mwavuta mwe. Where have you ever heard of that. Monga ni wedding??? Ni nzelu za ba zungu izo..

    • Mushala your face looks scary like your grand father,,, the man who was believed to have disappearing powers….
but where is this culture of going ku burrial with an invitation card coming from`???,,, did Sata state it in his will??,,,, this is very unzambian culture,, so you mean those people coming from Sata`s village need invitation cards???

    • the UN chicalas probably dont have anything better to do and the same goes for the other presidents and nevers mumba who are two faced bastards to show off their eulogy. all this is drama people. a demon like sata does not deserve this; evans mfula at evaduco reporting live from lusaka servants quarters

    • And yet the same people have opened bank accounts for ordinary Zambians to help pay for the funeral in addition to the already huge public resources put into this. How much can you take people for granted.

    • @Ndobo, point of correction. The PF Mushala is son of Adamson Mushala, the “rebel” against UNIP. The police had to be naked to see him. That why I believe that it is unfair to punish children because of parents deeds.
I am no longer interested in that funeral, I had enough, anyone who want an invitation card can use mine.

    • Your money is welcome BUT not you. Where is your invitation card? However, on voting day, you and everyone else will be MOST WELCOME.

I recall that on swearing in the late Michael Sata in 2011 the Supreme Court grounds were sufficient for all Zambians. Is PF still the people’s party? Maybe PF should just introduce membership cards.

  2. This has now become a circus, just bury the man already it’s not like he created miracles in the 3 years he was president. Infact people have seen more of him in this period during body viewing than the whole of his failed presidency.

  3. Well….. For purposes of maintaining order I guess that it is okey that the number is limited… For those opposing it, you are right about not getting invites to a funeral but this is not just any funeral…. so please accept the govts decree.

  4. Why all the fuss about the use of invitation cards. I think this the the best news after the death of our president.this will block ill mannered cadres and people like you.if doors are left to every jim and jack they’ll be total confusion.

    Regards

  5. People had to stand in the scorching sun for hours,in long queues just to view the body of their servant. Others didn’t even get the chance to because it seems certain groupings were allowed to enter before the ones that stood there for long hours. Anyway, since Zabwino Palibe was in charge, you had to expect some corruption. With that said,it’s a shame no ordinary Zambian, who stripped naked to celebrate Sata’s victory in 2011,will be invited to the burial of the late head of state.

  6. Sata brought all this holiganism. Anyway, its a good notice especially for his own Panga family PF cadres because thy are capable of causing further embarracement to the country. Some of us wil be watching Ghana Vs manchester city.

    • My brother /sister, I think you are not a real Zambian; how can you be watching football when majority of the Zambians including Grade 9 Candidates will be watching the burial procession of their beloved president on TV. Check you nationality my dear, you must be a foreigner who requires immediate deporting as your comments can bring anarchy in this beloved country. Respect the dead president as you respect your parents. Remember I was one of the first female African pilots to fly the British Airways. And Iam proud of being a Zambian.

  7. I support the idea of the government printing invitation cards in order to detar those pipo with ill motives such as you pipo who are critsing the dead president. Any one who is against this ideal should go to hell.

    • @ sandra…………., given the hooliganism reigning in PF, that is the best they could have done to avoid public embarrassment. I for one commend the PF government on this one. It is the best decision they have ever made in their 3 yr reign, we have been embarrassed enough and let serenity reign for once.

    • Zambians, to hell with tribal voting please. Let us consider merit and integrity.

KK was only 39 when he became President. He did very well in the first few years until tribalism and insecurity reared their ugly heads.

  8. Michael Chilufya Sata has dribbled us once more! It has been DONCHI KUBEBA all the way through to his grave. May his soul rest in peace.

  9. Their will be eight heads of state. For security reasons, they need to restrict the number of people in attendance, end of the “proverbial” story.

    • What security reasons? Who will want to harm those Presidents? I am sorry to say this is the most irresponsible statement/posting I have read in a long time. Whoever posted it is really sick in the head. I just shudder to think what more repressive restrictions PF will subject Zambians to if they win the by-election. I sincerely fear that colonial-style Pass Laws will follow if PF win 2016. I am not partisan at all. I am just an ordinary Zambian worrying about losing the very freedom people fought for 50 yrs ago and the democracy Zambians revived in 1990.

Can we stop family members from attending a burial just because there will be foreign friends coming to mourn with us? Besides, Presidents will have a designated place away from these VIPs. Was that recommended by Zambia Police?? YES.

  10. Like anyone cares. Just bury the man and we start with the campaigns. Am sure deep down no one cares anymore we have to continue with the affairs of the country that are more important.

  11. Just like any other country burying a head of state, public involvement is usually restricted to witnessing the funeral procession by lining up along the road. The burial is usually a restricted event and you are even lucky to have the 2000 people invited. It’s usually less. I’m sure those who watched the Mandela burial will remember that it was not open to the public.

    So stop whining people!!!!

  12. Anyway, its the good idea of invitation cards for security of the other eight president that will represent the buriel. But if i may ask, For how maney times have ever introduced these cards? Are telling me that when Levy Mwanawasa died, didnt you have presidents too and did you itroduced invitation cards? Please do not take zambia for gratend. This is rediculars.

  13. We have heard but these heartless people who cannot weep not even a single drop are worrying me if they will be the only ones attending. Kaseba will be alone wailing unless some cadre DCs who will be pretending as they wail for their jobs. Things will never be the same for you guys.

  14. No sense of shame, no pride or faith in their own health institutions, preferring to die in other countries hospitals. Let Sata be the last president to be evacuated and die in a foreign country, there has to be an end to such gross stup!dity. What’s wrong with your hospitals?

  15. We hope the new president can restore unity, past three years the human species that mattered most were those who belong to PF.

  16. The idea is not moral because our culture allows any morner to attend funerals when they wish. But the trick is avoid embarassment from PF cadres who are likey to be campaigning for their candidates. This can potentially lead to crushes and endanger the security of foreign visitors.

The legacy of the PF has made immorality seem right. Look at the way GBM and Mulenga Sata’s cadres are campaigning!

  17. Nga mulatandala kufyalo you will not complain about this. It is not new to state that attendance at a funeral is by invitation only.

Why are you so eager to attend a sorrowful event? That is why when you hear there is a car accident you all rush to the scene kuya tamba abafwa.

Tuleke icimpwena. Just stay at home, watch the proceedings on TV, or kabiyeni kumabala mukulima. It’s rainy season.

  18. The idea of cards is okay to avoid too much congestion and Ichipwena.I agree PF are the pioneers of bringing panga welding candres. The next president should work on this.In 2000 during campaigns diffrent political part members would pass each other while matching and would wave at each other but this is no more cos of the violent spirit of Pf and political parties are now enemies who dont see eye to eye. What a pity.

    • Do not worry. Just next week they will be kneeling before you begging for votes. If you are genuine, give the vote to someone else. Do not stay away from voting. Show them that you are not amused by their bad behaviour. I certainly will.

  19. Why on earth is his body going to State House….that’s not his personal residence why not take it to his Rhodes park residence? Just bury that corpse please stop moving it about…death is a part of life…bury that body even in death Sata’s body is still a huge liability to us.

  20. Whoever is responsible for Kasebas dressing pliz make sure on Tuesday she wears a long sleeved nice attire not the revealing tops sleeveless she has been wearing low neck before her husband is buried!!! Remember Winnie Mandela Graca Machel ver
y decent during Mandelas funeral. Free advise.

  21. Jay jay what are you trying to say? If it was your father then someone comments the way you have comment how can you feel? We don’t politicize a dead body are you a Zambian? We are going to receive 9 head of state from different countries that’s why they have put those restrictions. You want the burial for the head of state to be public like he was a ward councilor ?? The president is the custodian of the law and is the commander in chief he was not a person to play with any how up to now we must respect his funeral.

  22. Just burry the loser without invitations he’s already getting late for dinner on the other side with Idi Amin.

    • Those make hatred comments must stop at once, We call Zambia a Christian nation so is this what a Christianity teaches us. Be shame you barking dogs .A death of every human being is a loss to someone and our beloved Ba Sata was a resident for 8 0r maybe 9 million peace loving Zambians. Even when the late Princss Diana of England was killed in that tragic accident in 1997 she was given a private funeral by Her Majesty The Queen .Ba Sata was a head of state so you hooligans keep out from causing confusion in the country and allow the Government and the family of the late President have a peaceful funeral ceremony. Learn to be educated unless some of you were educated in Chibolya primary school. May God rest our beloved President In Peace .Aameen. My deepest condolences to whole Zambia

    • @KACHIGAMBA You call Zambia a Christian nation as you are completely clueless as to where Christianity originated from nor where if its relevant to us as Africans… the worst atrocities and wars in history have been carried out in the name of Christianity. If I was President its the first thing I would cross out…WAKE UP from your DOCILITY AND PASSIVITY and RESEARCH ABOUT SELF.
      WAKE UP!!

  23. PLEASE I APOLOGISE FOR SOME TYPING ERRORS ,ESPECIALLY FOR PRESIDENT WHHERE I HAD MISSED OUT THE P. PLEASE PRAY FOR THE LATE PRESIDENT AND PRAY FOR PEACE FOR ZAMBIA.

    • If at all there is a hell as your slave master’s bible states then Sata is there as he profusely lied his way to State House!!

    • Kaghigamba..

Do not worry. Just next week you will be kneeling before the so-called hooligans for votes. Will you stay away from rallies for security reasons? You are just fearing to be embarrassed by your own PF cadres’ thuggery behaviour.

Chibolya happens to be a place where people find themselves because of poor govt policies. You are now mocking those people after robbing them of every opportunity. While you despise them, you will soon be begging for votes from their hands. Shame on you.

    • Jay Jay

It is normal to be atheist though it is dangerous as God is real.

You can remove the clause from the constitution but Christianity is a beautiful way of life. Those wars you are talking about were fought in the “name” of Christianity and not for genuine Christian faith. It is just the same for Zambia to be called a “Christian” nation when its leaders’s actions are far from Christianity. They may claim to be Catholic, Evangelical, etc but are far from Christianity.

  24. Nangu amano nayepipa, since when do you send invitation cards to a funeral, let alone that of a president? Get real and serious imwe ba mutumbambenya. Kuchililo twambe ukufwaya passport? **** the bull shit.

  25. To be perfectly honest and no offense to anyone, if they were handing out K100 notes at this funeral I still would not attend. And if they upped the ante to K10,000 for each attendee, I would ask that my K10,000 be donated to an orphanage but to please excuse me because I’m not showing up.

    • Dear Coachez @ #33,
Please tell me you clever secret. How are you able to write those three beautiful words in your last sentence without being arrested by the LT word police? A few times I have tried to write the two words that are synonymous with stupid, they have been bleeped out. I’m talking about these two words:

      i
      d
      i
      o
      t

      and

      f
      o
      o
