PRESIDENT Sata’s vision was to have a national airline established by October 24 this year to coincide with the Golden Jubilee celebrations, Minister of Transport, Works, Supply and Communications Yamfwa Mukanga has said.

In an interview in Lusaka yesterday, Mr Mukanga said, however, that Government encountered challenges in establishing the airline by that date.

“The committee that is in place is doing everything possible to ensure that the national airline is established soon,” Mr Mukanga said.

He said Government is also putting up measures to ensure that mistakes that caused the liquidation of Zambia Airways are avoided.

  1. It seems to me that everyone will try to shove words into the mouth of the departed dictator in order to further their own personal agenda. ba Sata can no longer speak now so anyone can claim that he had this or that little dialogue with the departed dictator.

    • What Mukanga is said is true. The problem is that they kept mentioning target dates for a project that was not budgeted for. They had even lined up officers from ZAF (like late Major_Gen. Mulyokela) to train as commercial pilots with the view of manning the aircrafts. Chikwanda saw the whole venture as a waste of money and so did not make strides in sourcing the needed funding.

    • Mukanga, the committee is dissolved. What can they do in next 90 days? Wait HH will decide on the future of that dream airline.

    • They talk too much with No Vision. they have no strategy and a mess. Munkanga behaves like he is not educated / an old man. many options were on the table just that the problem with Zambians is?? They think about their pocket First before the Nation and it’s people.

Same old fashioned Ideas were being suggested?? and in this lucrative business. those models will not work. Think Smart and have a vision. Not just to impress Sata. We need Young Zambians to work on the committee than the old ZAF papas with not ideas on how the modern Airlines likes of Emirates, Qatar, Cathy etc have been successful.

  2. Honestly, Zambia doesn’t need a national airline by the moment. With all due respect to our departed leader, airlines are struggling everywhere and Zambia has a long list of priorities for financial support such as health, education and other such critical social sectors. The key word is prioritise

  3. Zambia has failed engineers and business men. This is where The Engineer.Business Strategist belongs to. while others are busy establishing airlines even low cost ones you say that that Zambia can’t afford. what kind of an engineer and business man are you? no wonder you have failed to upgrade mbaula and you are still looking tothe Chinese to design one for you.

    • Zambia has many good engineers competing very well in many fields (including space engineering) with fellow engineers anywhere in the world. Producing a brazier, a car, a fan, a pipe or even a tooth pick are business matters not a matter of being engineers.

  4. Imwe ba Mukanga, if you have resources stop the load shedding first twachula before you think of silly ideas. Give us water. Have you completed the ZR revival project? Mwebashala mu PF learn to separate dreams from visions and learn to evaluate projects. We all have dreams but these are not necessarily Visions. Otherwise you will leave our country broke.

  5. Another reason why these clueless empty tins should be kicked out…in the mean time these corrupt empty tins are issuing licences to Fastjet not knowing that they are killing local airlines who are unable to match that company’s financial muscle.

  6. I m glad that vision if it was true died with him. It wud have been another waste of public funds. I m aware Mukanga and his bunch criminals even set up an org chart for the airline before other fundamentals were put in place. I m told the structure is top heavy and full of his tribesmen. What does this mean? It wud have been another failed project and lots of money plundered. The only thing these dunderheads can do is promote the existing Proflight and give them support in tax incentives for fuel.

  7. Mukanga the other PF liar. Last time this Mukanga was yapping that he and his liars PF had reached an advanced degree programs for the national airline.
As usual, Mukanga is chronically diagnosed with cancer of Donchi Kubeba in the mouth.
As Sata called him, “chipuba” cha PF, surely he is.
