Press statement for immediate release

WE WILL NEVER ACCEPT RB’S MONEY

Following our unequivocal statements against calls to have Former President Rupiah Banda return to active politics, we wish to alert the nation that those supporting this selfish plan have hatched a campaign to discredit me and the MMD Die Hard movement.

They are now spreading cheap and malicious propaganda using some online news sites aimed at tarnishing my good image and that of the MMD Die Hard machinery.

One of their blatant machinations is that Mr Banda has offered us K 500 million to silence us and weaken our resolve. This piece of cheap propaganda is being peddled in some dark corner meetings and is soon to be amplified by online news reports.

We wish to dismiss such reports and declare that we will never accept Mr Banda’s money. Our work is in the defence of the MMD constitution. We further wish to advise Mr Banda’s loyalists that the MMD Die Hard movement is not for hire. We protect causes that identify with the wellbeing of our dear party.

Mr Banda has never offered us any form of help since vacating State House. The only money we received from Mr Banda was in 2011 as we were part of his campaign team.

We wish to reiterate that our opposition to Mr Banda’s purported return to politics is premised on our fundamental belief that Zambia will do well to adopt a fresh approach to leadership. We firmly believe that the year of the Jubilee and the death of President Michael Sata should herald a new chapter in the country’s governance system.

We also know that the Jubilee we have prayed for will never deliver a promised land if we continue being shepherded by old and recycled leadership. Our stance will be shaken even by the highest bidder.

Our enemies and enemies of democracy have also launched attacks on our integrity and that of the MMD Die Hard movement by alleging that the student protest of Wednesday, November 13 2014 from Kalingalinga Total Filling Station to the MMD Secretariat against Mr Banda’s intentions were paid by us.

This is another figment of their imagination as the students never met any of the officials of the MMD Die Hard movement prior to the march past. If the students were indeed paid, then the MMD Die Hard movement was not the payer. The other distortion being spewed by our enemies is that the students were chased from the MMD Secretariat by Police and Secretariat staff, this is another fabrication with intentions to deceive the public.

As pictures would show, the students had a successful demonstration which was peaceful and incident free. They made their statement opposing Mr Banda loud and clear for all to see.

As the MMD youths, we will continue to defend the party’s constitution and rally behind Dr Nevers Sekwila Mumba as he prepares the party for the presidential by election.

Attacks on our personalities will not derail us but only go to encourage and strengthen our collective resolve to defeat ill intentions by a group of plunderers who are bent on destroying the party.

Zambia needs a breed of fresh and energetic leadership. We advise Mr Banda and those misleading him to take a back seat in Zambia’s politics and adopt the Madiba like role in national affairs. Mr Banda has everything to lose by returning to active politics and everything to gain by maintaining his retirement.

  1. If this ranting is the campaign stamp message Dr. Mumba has hatched and will be preoccupied with in the bye-election, then he is doomed for good in Zambian politics.

    • Lusambo be in self denial that the constitution of MMD is very clear on nomination of a candidate for election. Its not automatic that the party President is the candidate sponsored by the party in a national election. NEC has the constitutional right to convene and nominate any good standing member they deem capable of delivering them the victory. MMD does not thrive on politics of exclusion or self limitation. Instead it sets its pace on competitive electioneering.

  2. Senior citizen, the MMD constitution is actually silent on the presidential candidate contrary to your claims. Go on the MMD website and read it for yourself. The MMD has traditionally held a separate vote for the candidate which they are not necessarily obliged to by the constitution.

We know you are a Rupiah Banda sympathiser, probably paid to do his dirty work but we the young people shall not be fooled by your antics. Go on the streets and ask people randomly what they think about RB coming back into politics. They overwhelmingly say no. Articles have been written explaining why RB should stay in retirement and look after his wife in hospital. He is just a greedy selfish man prepared to sacrifice Zambia.

  3. Just shut yo beak you fool. You dont even understand democracy.Who do you think you are? We are tired of yo writings whose agenda we do not know.No wonder you will finish MMD with yo stupid thinking. Its time puppets like u were kicked out because u re not rational. Dont think that MMD worships u Bowman. *****

    • Muhabi is too busy organising the party to have time for such nonsense. Bowman obviously was helped by a friend who is better educated.

  4. can someone please correct me.is this truly lusambo writing this perfect English. the last time he appeared on TV reading from a peace of paper his English was worse than a black mamba’s bite .Muhabi lungu is behide this letter.

    • Muhabi is far too busy organising the party to have time for such ridiculous nonsense. Bowman obviously was helped by a friend who is better educated than him.

  5. Rupiah should be wise enough to know that the reaction of Zambians is very negative to his comeback. Scandalising Bowman won’t help. RB should be a bigger man than this pettiness and nonsense. He will not be spared by his competitors. Does he want to be called Nyama Soya again honestly? But some people are just too stubborn.

  6. RB is coming to prepare the country for the 2016 general elections.

He has nothing to lose or gain. He will give Zambians their constitution

  7. Zambia is not so cheap that people will just wake up and say” we” or” I” will vie for presidency. Money corrupts and if money is allowed to be flushed out at will and free like this, then lets have DEC ,ACC and Police move in to investigate the source of that money or it distorts our economy. Presidency is not for sale to the highest bidder but it is to ones with the heart for the people. Using underhand methods to gain power is unconstitutional. Election Office and Courts should this time around not fail us on plunderers of electoral rules. If people accepts you why labor to offload huge chunks of money when people are perishing with hunger. Where is that free money coming from so easily dished out. Electorates, watch out.

  8. Is this what you call democracy, let the big man stand if he wants but dont vote for him within MMD if you dont want than issuing useless press statements. He has rights and let him enjoy them.

  9. Yet human rights are not absolute just as democracy can not be left to be abused. When once democratic rights impinge on the rights of others, that right though may be democracy can not be exercised with impunity. We talk of the future of the youthful generation here that needs vibrancy and focused leadership. in society when you see even your own chief or elder going astray the inner circle will always prompt advise against the direction of the chief or elder. Advising RB to just sit and enjoy his benefits is not crime or disservice to him but due consideration with honor. RB may not see it himself but others will see and timely advise in order to preserve the elder’s respect and reputation. To me it would be an insult for RB to want to contest elections instead of supporting the young.
