VETERAN politician Vernon Mwaanga has urged political parties to put personal ambitions aside and carefully read the mood of the people and put Zambia first as they select their respective candidates.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Mr Mwaanga urged the parties participating in the elections to conduct peaceful and issue-based campaigns.

“It is my hope and prayer that campaigns and the elections that will follow will be clean, issue-based and peaceful.

“I appeal to all those who will be participating in these elections at whatever level to desist from violence and bear in mind at all times, that Zambia is bigger and greater than anyone of us,” Mr Mwaanga said.
He thanked Zambians for mourning late president Sata in peace, respect and dignity.

Mr Mwaanga said the manner in which the Zambian people mourned President Sata has defined Zambia as a great country.

“I thank the Zambian people from all walks of life and political affiliations, for having mourned President Sata in peace, respect and dignity.

“That is what defines Zambia as a great country. Great nations and people rise above national tragedies. Now we must return to the requirements of our constitutional democracy, to elect a new President within 90 days from October 28, 2014,” Mr Mwaanga said.

  1. It was the year 2008 when one of my drinking buddies told me Vernon Mwaanga was dead. I never fact-checked it. But now I realize how drunk my buddy was.

  2. One Zambia, One Opposition.
The opposition could all form one alliance — pick one leader and have the rest take up ministerial positions, e.g. Mutati is President, HH is finance minister, Chipimo is Minister of Justice, Miyanda is Defense Minister, etc.
During this short tenure of office, the alliance enacts the new constitutiuon, then in 2016 they dissolve the alliance and go head-to-head.
    Everyone wins!

    • My brother VJ is a Zambian citizen. He does not require any other capacity to comment on zambian politics, just like you do not need special capacity to ask VJ.

    • Now, that’s being stupid. Does one always have to speak in a particular capacity? Don’t you know that he is a citizen? All citizens have the right to contribute to anything. After all Mwanga’s advice is the best any well thinking person can get.

  3. VJ has really become very useful these days. That is how a person especially a veteran should behave. We need more people that are objective. Viva VJ, viva Zambia, Viva next president. I know this time around we are going to be above tribal, regional and petty in doing things. It’s about what your children will be in the next 50 or so years. Not C.N.P. Twakana!

  4. for once VJ shut up! we are not kids for you to be advising us all the time infact go to the village mwe we are tired of pricks like u
