POLICE spokesperson Charity Chanda has called for concerted efforts by political parties and interest groups in maintaining law and order by denouncing violence during this transition period ahead of the Presidential election.

Ms Chanda said in a statement released yesterday that law and order is important as Zambia prepares for the polls.

“Our mandate as Zambia Police Service is to promote peace and provide a conducive environment for the elections to take place. This cannot be accomplished without the co-operation of the stakeholders,” Ms Chanda said.

She said those wishing to hold public meetings, demonstrations and processions should do so within the provisions of the Public Order Act, failure to which they will be committing an offence.

Ms Chanda said the police will not hesitate to arrest individuals who break the law.

“It is important that all stakeholders learn to co-exist and exercise their rights in a manner which will not infringe on other people’s rights,” Ms Chanda said.

She thanked members of the public for the peaceful manner in which they conducted themselves during President Sata’s funeral.

“We would, therefore, like to urge the citizenry to continue with the same spirit,” she said.

  1. Ms. Chanda, lawlessness in to day Zambia is a direct by-product of the ZP selective and biased political servitude of the past three years.

    • That girl Charity, how can she say people should continue with same attitude; she was part of arresting 20 PF cadres. She got tired and she didn’t even go to help out put-off fires at UNZA yesterday. So where does she want the PF to continue….?

    • Where have the PF police been for the past three years with those PF Panga wielding cadres on our streets?

Bwana Munganga, is this when the police are waking up from their slumber? HH, Nev. Mumba, Bishop Mumba, Father Bwalya and many other people where butchered by PF violence. All bwana Munganga’s police officers also seemed to serve as cadres at any helm of PF.
Too late now, surely all yous are now smelling the whole whirlwind of change.
After being mute for 3 years, today you want to talk? We never heard any police officer denouncing PF violence, in fact, it the same police who emphasized that the PF cadres and violence should continue to reign supreme.
      Time of reckoning!

  2. Police should leave the calling for peace to Churches, NGO’s etc, their duty is to enforce the law professionally. Asking Politicians to control cadre violence is dealing with the symptom of the problem and not the root cause. The root cause is Politicians sponsoring violence, without the politicians funding cadres to commit violence the cadres would not be involved . The police need to exercise investigative skills and begin by picking up sponsors to face the law of the land. Praying for Zambia.

  3. Law and order? A call by ZP? Very funny. These guys make it a point to make it known that they will break the law at every given opportunity. ZP enforce the so called law only against those who can’t pay up.

  4. I the police is really serious in keeping peace in this country, let them arrest Edgar Lungu who is responsible for mobilizing and funding UNZA students to riot and burn their hostels. The government should make sure that UNZA is closed until March 2015.

  5. Affirmative Madam. Let no thug bring insecurity to the nation. If they do not listen to your advice we will lift them by the belt.

  6. Get up, stand up, stand up for your right (3 x)
Get up, stand up, don’t give up the fight

Preacher man don’t tell me heaven is under the earth
I know you don’t know what life is really worth
Is not all that glitters in gold and
Half the story has never been told
So now you see the light, aay
Stand up for your right. Come on

Get up, stand up, stand up for your right
Get up, stand up, don’t give up the fight

Most people think great God will come from the sky
Take away ev’rything, and make ev’rybody feel high
But if you know what life is worth
You would look for yours on earth
And now you see the light
You stand up for your right, yeah!

Get up, stand up, stand up for your right
Get up, stand up, don’t give up the fight
Get up, stand up. Life is your…

    • Life is your right
So we can ‘t give up the fight
Stand up for your right, Lord, Lord
Get up, stand up. Keep on struggling on
Do n’t give up the fight

We’re sick and tired of your ism and skism game
Die and go to heaven in Jesus’ name, Lord
      We know when we understand
Almighty God is a living man
You can fool some people sometimes
But you can ‘t fool all the people all the time
So now we see the light
We gonna stand up for our right

So you’d better get up, stand up, stand up for your right
Get up, stand up, do n’t give up the fight
Get up, stand up, stand up for your right
Get up, stand up, do n’t give up the fight

  7. Sanity should be restored to Zambia.PF and its former leader Sata and Kabimba sponsored this cadre Violence. Its high time we root out this Kaponya mentality and clean the streets of Lusuka and kitwe.Look at livinstone how clean it is as if we in a province in south Africa.ZP should ensure all these Kaponyas in red ballets are caged before elections.

  8. Which Police? This is a complete failed project. I have never seen such lawlessness before in Zambia. Just go to a funeral of a PF cadre and see how machetes are wielded openly. A former Police IG recently said we got what we asked for.
