Acting President Guy Scott has announced January 20 2015 as the date for the presidential by election.

The announcement of the polling date marks the official commencement of the political campaigns for all participating parties and their candidates.

Addressing a news conference this afternoon, Dr Scott disclosed that the presidential by election shall be held on Tuesday, 20th January 2015.

Dr Scott said this is in accordance with Zambia’s constitution Article 38 (1), which provide that if the Office of President becomes vacant by reason of the President’s death, an election to the office of President shall be held in accordance with Article 34 within 90 days from the date of the office becoming vacant.

“I wish to reiterate my profound gratitude to the general public for the maturity, love and peace exhibited during the State Funeral of our Late President His Excellency, Mr Michael Chilufya Sata. It is my prayer that we will continue with the same spirit during the campaigns and the presidential by election.”

And Dr Scott says the PF is not under pressure to campaign as its track record in government speaks for itself.

He said the ruling PF will win the election because it has delivered on most of its promises.

Dr Scott also maintained that the PF will go for the general conference adding that nominations for the presidency will close on Wednesday.

Dr. Scott says the Patriotic Front is ready for the by election despite not yet picking a candidate to represent the party.

He said the party has structure and people in place to handle election but was quick to note the it was not easy to prepare for an election in an event of the death of the President because it was not expected.

Commenting on the choosing a candidate for the PF, Dr. Scott said the party will meet try to simplify the process by getting consensus between aspiring candidates by allowing them to choose the preferred candidate amongst themselves.

He said if this process fails to get a candidate the party will go for the convention to ensure that no aspiring candidate is unconstitutionally disadvantage.

  1. You Zambians, 20th January is my birthday, so give me a birthday present that I will remember for the rest of my life. Vote a President whom we shall be proud of as a Nation, a President who can rub shoulders with Cameron, Obama, Angel Merkel, François Hollande and articulate issues. We don’t want a President who doesn’t even know what GDP, BoP or mere inflation is. We’ve had some Presidents in the past and the only time you heard them mention such term and similar words when reading a speech prepared for them. This is a plea to all well-meaning Zambians, let’s put the interest of this nation first. We need a President who is not backed by a powerful “Bwinjimfumu cartel” or that “clique cartel”. What we should know is that both of these cartels are evil and are championing their…

    • …..their selfish interests. Let’s vote for someone backed by the “13 Million cartel”. This is the last chance to put things right. VOTE HH

    • I think he has acted exemplary it is a travesty he is not able to stand.

He is the best man for the job is Guy Scott.

Our country is a racist, I hope you are all denied visas to come to UK until you reverse the decision.

      Thanks

    • Finally my messages are filtering through. Good Scott for once you have acted in good faith.

Had you listened to HH and the parties demanding for the release of the constitution, you could by now have been very eligible to stand. But because you listened to Kabimba you ended up shooting your self in your foot.

Any way enjoy your own mess !

    • 20th Nov Really and the 20th Jan 2015 big one!!!

Cartel at work- Technical strategy to sort out E.Lungu out. Here is how……
E.Lungu is currently powerful with Defence ministry and Justice ministry plus SG of PF on his side. If he files Presidential nomination tomorrow-He must resign…

Then face 20 Thursday without SG post if not adopted,E.Lungu is grounded-Next he is in court for treason (Current court case against Scott).

THURSDAYS 20TH NOV 2014. Is a strategic set up, If I were E.Lungu, I would go for a strategic competitive advantage that has everything to gain. Scott and his Cartel strategy are aiming high….

Dont be surprised to see MILES SAMPLE ADVANTAGED, AND GBM pulling out with a failed vote.
Mr Chikwanda,Lungu, and this Co. will be frequenting courts under…

    • Any well meaning Zambian will take this massage seriously. Its high time we stated Voting with our brains other than tribes. its shocking to hear certain Names being mentioned close to the corridors of power. Sata was voted for under the guise of being the man of action by gullible Zambian even though his manifesto wasn’t feasible, applicable, and sustainable but the other Zambians did it on ethnic grounds. what about Edgar lungu is he also a man of action? or the PF central committee wants to plunder the little remaining from the Bonds capitalizing on the man’s weakness, the bwingufimu group also has what they want to cover eg. taxi issue, the DBZ money.

    • Congratulations Your Excellence Dr. Guy Scott for this job well done. You are indeed a black man in white coat. This date is balanced as it will give all political parties to campaign well with enough time.
Dear Zambians, let us give our 100% support to this man who really means his words when he said he will live to unite this country even in difficult transition period like this one. May the Good Lord be with you Mr. Acting President. Be assured; majority of Zambians support you very much. We love you Guy Scott more than Edgar Lungu who is just being supported by 70 Hungry PF MPs out of 14 Million Zambians . And for you Scot more than 80% of Zambians support you. May Mr. Edgar Lungu and his 70 supporters be cursed. Shame on you Nkandu Luo , Jaen Kapata and Cathrin Namuga.

    • @ Yami Vision; looks like you were just waiting for this moment to unleash your venom. Not everyone has devious minds like you.

    • Date difference from Oct 28, 2014 to Jan 20, 2015

The total number of days between Tuesday, October 28th, 2014 and Tuesday, January 20th, 2015 is 84 days.

This is equal to 2 months and 23 days.

This does not include the end date, so it’s accurate if you’re measuring your age in days, or the total days between the start and end date. But if you want the duration of an event that includes both the starting date and the ending date, then it would actually be 85 days.

If you’re counting workdays or weekends, there are 60 weekdays and 24 weekend days.

If you include the end date of Jan 20, 2015 which is a Tuesday, then there would be 61 weekdays and 24 weekend days including both the starting Tuesday and the ending Tuesday.

84 days is equal to 12 weeks.

      The total…

    • That’s my birthday too! Also a special day onthe American calendar as it is the day every four years that the president elect is sworn in. I am so glad that this will be the day I will cast my vote to chart this country on a path never experienced before, that of sanity and prosperity. Thank you Your Excellency! I can’t wait. Best birthday present ever!!

    • Guy Scott Qualifies to run for presidency in the same way Rupiah Banda who was born in Zimbabwe, qualifies; Mulenga Sata, with a Malawian mother, qualifies, and Kenneth Kaunda, with both parents foreign, qualified.

    • Gullible Zambians…, so easily duped and believe anything you read. The reality usually lies beneath.
Guy told the world that he wanted to follow the PF constitution adding there would be no shortcuts but to go to the Convention as 40 people could not decide on behalf of the majority.
Now he says he’ll ask the 4 or 5 contenders to decide among themselves who should be the candidate…., really??? Scott, which clause in which constitution? No shortcuts…, really??

There’s something Guy was afraid of or someone he was trying to propel, if not himself. I hope he doesn’t use that meeting to intimidate Lungu with arrest again as he did with Mwenye….

He’s been very sly, refusing to meet his SG since Sata died until he was forced by Inonge Wina and the 63 MPs.

      let’s wait…

    • Zambians, Please let us reflect and correct our previous Mistakes. Cheap gifts and voting Buying should not be tolerated. Either we Eat their money but vote for a right person.

We Encourage Live debates from all candidates, so that we can assess their strategies and what they will do differently. Enough with Poverty. Zambia has to move forward. we are a rich country. We need proper governance.

Let us pray and Vote wisely with no emotional attachment to candidates. Let us bring back proper governance and accountability. Respect for the Rule of Law than cadre/riffraff behaviors.

  2. Ahh that’s where you go wrong not HH, he is not backed the 13million cartel… only the southern cartel. A minority just like the bwinjimfumu one

  3. Game on date set, let us watch drama unfolding now. By the way why is it that EL does not want to go for general convention if he is very popular in PF?

    • EL is causing political pundits to have sleepless nights.

A lot of power blocks in PF have thrown their weight and fortunes for and behind EL. Their eggs are in his basket. They now have to stay with him till he wins! In politics winner takes all!

The opposition are wary of EL and are busy urging PF to get rid of him at the convention! EL is their roadblock to Plot 1. EL has popular support and of course will bring Eastern Province.

EL is the man of this election and bar catastrophe, he has already one foot in Plot 1.

Remember how CC3, Shikapwasha and all RB machinery tried to stop MC Sata? History has a knack for repetition.

  4. Yes Zambians lets vote for the Muzungu to be the next president of Zambia. Ba Scott is the right man for Zambia, He will bring development and also bring more investors from Europe and the Americas. Voting for Edgar will only make under 5 parties more stronger. Believe me peace loving Zambians

    • Chiluba shall be forever be praised.

From his forward thinking he has served us from sliding back into colonialism!!! How I wish he married Namugala Catherine. Another very progressive thinker of our time…..
But Guys let me also find out. Am i an indigenous Zambia, my grand grand grand parents came from Katanga province according to his- story (history)

  5. I am not a PF supporter and I appreciate what Guy is doing. He truely has Zambia at heart. He wants to level the playing field so that no one has an advantage over the other. Let the democrates in PF file in their nominations.

    • All edgar lungu supporters should file the nominations so that they vote him when time comes for candidates to choose a prefered one amongst themselves.

  6. 20/01/2015 should be a date that will leave an indelible mark on Zambia’s calendar. A day when we shall resolve to turn things around as a nation. A day we shall Donchi Kubeba them. This time they will eat their own lies…A day when they wished they had enacted the constitution. A day they wished they would have been honest. A day we will send shivers into their spines…A day for justice…A day poor me will have a voice. I cannot wait for my day.

  7. I agree, HH fits the qualities you just stated. In addition the Age limit should be less than > 55 years, we are tired of the D. Munkobwe type their time ended @ Jubilee. Time to Move forward.

Let the campaign begin, HH go to the remotest areas, and finish with big cities.

Visit Chitimukulu Sosala, get his blessings, and now let all cop vacate the areas where they set a prison in his land

  8. This now marks the beginning of campains.ZNBC should also come up with a schedule of Live TV debates on issues of Good governance, costitution,Economy ,Energy,Agriculture, health ,education and national and foreign policy.I personally wish you all the best President HH.do as proud in the live debates and rallies.I know you don’t know me personally and at no time will I beg for money from you but I stand to benefit from your policies as UPND government like I did with Mwanawasa.ViVa Flight 2015HH,destination State house.

  9. Ati,between aspiring candidates by allowing them to choose the preferred candidate amongst themselves.Elo naumfwako ekoyaba iyo??is it provided for in the PF consttution???What of if some candidates are just cosmetic and pseudo ones???

  10. Guy Scott First White (Legitimate) President in Africa. Best President in Zambian History! If he reads this, I want to tell him THANK YOU! you have truly saved our country from these PF Scoundrels

  11. We are not interested in GDP or rubbing shoulders with Obama and others- We are interested in Action oriented leaders like the late President MC Sata MHSRIP not leaders on paper or economic theoreticians.
    Long Live PF!!!

  12. Edgar Lungu is the only wise and smart candidate. He waited patiently for the date of elections to be announced. He carefully has kept quiet as the masses of minority tabloids have insulted his name. May the Lord Jesus bless and activate Edgar Lungu to greater heights.

  13. ”commenting on the choosing a candidate for the PF, Dr. Scott said the party will meet try to simplify the process by getting consensus between aspiring candidates by allowing them to choose the preferred candidate amongst themselves.”and i quote.

    • Guy Scott is on a sly mission to impose a candidate of his choice.

My question to Kalaba and other MCC; why do you allow ONE person, Guy Scott, to dictate to you and determine proceedings? A meeting makes binding decisions by majority vote and not whims of an individual. Scott is NOT greater than all of you MCC!

Guy Scott CANNOT per your constitution unilaterally make decisions. Stand your ground against this muzungu. This is your country and its your party!

Guy Scott amongst you is just another MCC and cannot bull doze you. The law is on your side. In that CC, Guy Scott has no power of the State.

  14. PF let Edgar Lungu stand. He is the only one the opposition fear. One he is educated, calm and well spoken. Do you know why president Sata gave him three posts? Simple, the only PF leader he knew had intentions to unite, also release the draft constitution. The other PF aspiring candidates have certificates; competing with Edgar’s law degree. Sure a havard certificate Sampa, a business crooked shrewdness GBM and a votech of common wealth Lubinda hahaha. PF be serious, Zambia wants honorable Edgar Lungu.

  15. Dream on guys dream on… HH is going no were. Yes on watchdog he is popular not on the streets… in the villages and all. His media coverage is so weak that he is only seen once during the campaign and forgotten by the election day when his opponents are seen daily in the post and as long as UPND never sees this… they will never ever go anywhere except Southern province…. unfortunately he has not yet built a powerful media around himself. They tried the daily nation but hey… its only in Lusaka and lately PF elements make more headlines there than HH and UPND. And this thing of having a too loud Mweetwa where he is a vice make the party just sound tribe as its striking label… make a deliberate move to make other tribes be heard to have power in the party,

    • like now… the party spokes person has no voice, no spine… only put there for the show that all regions are represented… his vice speaks for him and the party just shows you have to be from some region to have that voice and the spine to say something…

  16. Shameful. I hope the judiciary will rule according to our constitution and remove this foreign person at the helm of our gov’t.

If Edgar Lungu had not been removed from Acting President he would have automatically been the PF candidate. We therefore all know why this crazed man and his cartel out manuvered him. It’s really the height of Machiavellian conduct, and those grinning at such a display of unprincipled behaviour should be ashamed go themselves.

Guy Scott States he is democratic and yet given the option to cause disarray he took up the presidents office by treasonous force. Yet the ‘Zambians,’ posting irresponsible support for this man do not understand the continued precedence of allowing foreign people to rule our country for their purposes.

    • As for Guy Scott bringing Europeans and Americans to Zambia, can I point out they would come for our resources and it would not matter what colour the President.

      Pathetic.

  17. Dont include SATA in this debate. He reminds us of tribalism and nepotism.Let look forward to new leadership anchored on knowledge.Let us consider pipo like HH,Nawakwi,Mutati, Chipimo,Nevers and Edgar.

    • @20 Mkandansenga

If these people, you mention had knowledge and fit for leadership, they would protect the constitution of Zambia. They would challenge Guy Scott having that office, before they did as, qualifying indigenous citizens.

They are all irresponsible. We did not need the cost of these elections after multiple by(e) elections in the last year.

If Edgar Lungu had remained Acting President we would not be having this shameful unsavoury Guy Scott character trying to induce cartel into our election landscape.

  18. Thanks alot Mr. Guy Scott for the job well done. This is a good time for HH to be president. And for you HH, stop campaigning for yo opponents. How dare u discourage yo oponents to stop quarelling? Dont u know that their confusion is your advantage. The Tonga saying says and I quote ” umuhuba ubauba nchilyo chabasongo”. Where are the advisers for HH. Pliz wake up from your deep slumber. This a Golden Chance for him. Edgar Lungu the drunkard is now dead and buried politically.

    • @Monicah Haalushomo

I have been saying the same thing to HH. This is not the time for him to advise PF about good governance, it’s time for him to project PF’s failures to electorates on 3D TV countrywide. Voters already know PF is dead. He is wasting his life and time hanging around Lusaka and trying to pump sense into confused PF thug govt. HH’s modus operand is a little confusing to me, does he want PF to do things correctly before he could compete with with them for presidency on equal terms?

  19. Here is one campaign promise I’d like to hear:

“I promise to reverse the President’s pay hikes and take a pay cut if elected!”

  20. Newly found democracy – Let the candidates for themselves (which constitution, Guy Scottish?)!! my, my, my!!

“Commenting on the choosing a candidate for the PF, Dr. Scott said the party will meet try to simplify the process by getting consensus between aspiring candidates by allowing them to choose the preferred candidate amongst themselves.”

Even the Scottish, just like Cosmo Mumba, will all FAINT when they hear about the newly evented democracy, devised by their descendant.

This is a very desperate move to rig the process – just encourage riff-raffs who should then give up for the Cartel’s candidate.

WHAT A MESS OF THE PROCESS AND AN INSULT TO THE ZAMBIAN PUBLIC.

  21. Zambia foward! The PF is power hungry. From VODKA lungu to sampa. Only scott is credible but this year we are voting hh. Simply young and vibrant

  22. Certainly the PF leaders are going to kill themselves. Vodka Lungu wants to be leader at all costs but Guy Scotch insists he is the legitimate leader. Meanwhile, Jack Daniels says I am just hear to eat. Patrick Martini the speaker is clueless. Loud mouthed Gin Kapata is scared big time.

  23. The drama will be which mad politician, from among his mad fellows, will be worthy casting a vote for! It will be like committing suicide, whichever way one votes.

    • Is that Deepak? Is that Asian influence in our gov’ts? Zambian politicians can’t stop selling themselves, can they.

  24. IS DONCHI KUBEBA GOING TO FEATURE IN THIS ELECTION OR NOT? On a more serious note Sata’s demise, though sad might have tragically been indicative of a wrong choice made. Zambians have a chance to reflect and choose a visionary, young president to move things from where the late president left off. Let’s try being sincere this time. Still waiting for a sorry for the lies and treachery leading to the death of SATA from PF. I doubt people (voters) have forgotten the Sata pre-death drama.

  25. Dabo h for 2051….you guys start yo campaigns don’t wait for 2051……..teach your cyber politician that he must be on the ground not on watch dog, where is paying people to praise him….

  26. Acting President Guy Scott is the only person in PF who is following the party and national constitution. Thank you Dr Scott 20 January is within 90 days as per our repubilcan constitution. Tell PF to go to a convetion to democraticall elect a candidate and not endorse a candidate. That is democracy sometimes your candidate loses.

  27. Well this is good news now the official campaigns can start. Elo it gives all candidates at least a level playing field in that this has been sorted be PF sort out their own stupid squabbles. The president has shown the kind of maturity not available from the likes of Lungu et al. With too much disorganisation going on at the moment you do wonder who can stand to be a uniting force for our country? Perhaps the acting president himself???? Just a thought.

  28. LOVE HIM OR HATE HIM. GUY SCOTT IN THIS DUAL ACT OF RESPECTING BOTH THE PARTY AND REPUBLICAN CONSITITUTIONS GOES DOWN AS ONE OF THE CEMENTING FATHERS OF ZAMBIA. BRAVO SCOTT. YOU MAKE ME PROUD AS A ZAMBIAN!!!

  29. I entirely agree with you Monicah. Why is HH mediating in internal PF/MMD conflicts? Did they ask him to? PF/MMD internal conflicts are HH’s votes, simple. If the aim was to try and project himself as statesman compared to PF/MMD rogues, it hasn’t worked.

    • Not too long ago, HH was himself embroiled in succession wrangles of no small magnitude. Himself the heir apparent, the fight turned bloody. He was not one to heed any advice, not even one offered by old man KK. Now he wants to be counselor-in-chief! How fast he must have grown! Or is he just trying to show off?

  30. KABIMBA IS terrible he delayed new constitution thinking he would benefit from old one otherwise Dr Guy Scot was going to be agood candidate BECAUSE HE IS MORE SENSIBLE,EDUCATED, MATURE.FIRM AND RELIABLE WORTHY MY VOTE.

  31. So we still go back to reality mr Lungu has proved to be less collective and law abiding lawyer he shouldn’t be taught by mr Scot or Gbm that the right is constitutional.
He was excited to release national constitution draft but I doubt when it is acted he will be able to understand and follow it.
Just saying bcos he can’t understand a part (PF) one.
He is 58 years old must sober up

  32. The supporters of pf have two options, its either they vote for E.L or the cartel. Choose which one is good for you, and don’t forget January isn’t far. DECIDE AND KNOW THAT THE POWER IS IN YOUR HANDS, BUT IF YOU DECIDE WRONGLY FACE THE CONSEQUENCE!!

  33. HH is the only credible guy who is young, articulate, who understands GDP,Foreign Exchange and its workings,,who knows about growing the economy thereby creating jobs.
Thats what G 20 was about.
He can and will deliver…Try him ZAmbians….
not voting for jokers, daydreamers, drunks and senile old men!!!!

Dont Say YOU were NOT WARNED!!!!!

  34. all Zambians how come RB is standing as president while is from Zimbabwe or his parents are from there? mulenga kk,ftj, all those are not full Zambians.

  35. I pray that all parties choose young, intelligent and energetic candidates. Not finished ones, let the old school go to the farm.

  36. Guy Scott was the right candidate to rule zambia;-
    – neutral
    – Selfless
    – Matured
    – Not big headed
    – Cannot involve in corruption activities.
    – He wil be a man of action
    – Cabinet members cannot take advantage of him basing of tribe
    – He wil try by all means to win the heart of all zambians
