Bridget Atanga, appointed PF Secretary General yesterday, has said that Guy Scott is still the Acting President of the Party.
Reacting to reports of Dr Scott’s suspension Ms Atanga said that the purported suspension of Dr Scott by the 25 Members of the Central Committee is not only illegal, but is also null and void.
Ms. Atanga said that only the President of the party is mandated by its constitution to convene meetings of the central committee and not anyone else.
She told journalists in Lusaka that the meeting that resolved to suspend Dr Scott is illegal and therefore the decision made is null and void.
Ms. Atanga was flanked by her newly appointed deputy Anthony Kasolo.
And the Law Association of Zambia says the suspension of Dr Scott is a party issue which has no bearing on his functions as Acting Republican President.
LAZ President George Chisanga says Dr. Scott will continue discharging duties of the President.
Mr. Chisanga was speaking during a media briefing in Lusaka today.

POWERS AND FUNCTIONS OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE PARTY

AMENDMENT OF THE CONSTITUTION
(I) This Constitution may be amended by the General Conference of the Party provided

It is matter arising out of disagreement between members of a political party which has its own proprietary regulations governing that particular political party and therefore is subject to the principles of “Natural Justice”
If any member of that political party feels aggravated and it thinks that offending decision was taken against or contrary to the principles of “Natural Justice” can ask High Court for Judicial Review of such decision.
