MMD District Chairperson Andrew Nawa has condemned the National Executive Committee (NEC) for suspending the party Nevers Mumba.

Mr. Nawa says that it is unlawful for NEC to suspend Nevers Mumba as he was elected at the Convention.

He said since the embattled opposition party leader was elected at the convention, his portfolio was above that of NEC.

ZANIS reports that the MMD District Chairperson said this in an interview in Kalulushi District , today.

He said Dr Mumba was only answerable to the general membership or the Convention not the NEC which he said no powers to discipline the MMD president.

Mr. Nawa advised the former MMD president Mr. Rupiah Banda to step aside and leave room to Nevers Mumba.

He noted that it was a pity that, despite NEC having several intellectuals in its midst allowed to be misled by the former MMD president.

He urged Mr. Banda to rest and enjoy his retirement, instead of bringing confusion in the party.

The opposition MMD NEC resolved to field former Republican President Banda to stand on its ticket at the forth coming January 20th, Presidential elections while maintaining Dr Mumba as its party president for administrative purposes.

However, Dr Mumba has not received this development with kid gloves causing him to be suspended from the former ruling party.
