MINISTER of Defence Edgar Lungu has called on the Church to pray for the Patriotic Front (PF) as it selects its candidate for the presidential election slated for January 20.

And PF Kabwata member of Parliament (MP) Given Lubinda has called on acting President Guy Scott and members of the central committee (MCCs) to resolve their differences and work together.

Mr Lungu, who is also Minister of Justice and a PF presidential aspirant, said the Church should pray for the ruling party so that it selects a leader who can continue to govern the country on Biblical principles.

He said this at the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) in Lusaka’s Chilenje where he went to fellowship yesterday.

Mr Lungu said Government regards the Church as a critical stakeholder which plays a vital role in promoting morality in the country.

“The Church should pray for the ruling party so that it selects a leader who can rule this nation on the principles of the Bible. The prayers should also be extended to other political parties.

“Without prayers, it is impossible for leaders to provide reliable and efficient leadership,” he said.

Mr Lungu also urged the Church to criticise the government where it goes wrong because it is open to correction.

He said the PF holds the church in high esteem and appreciates the relationship that exists between Government and the Church.

And former EFZ executive director Paul Mususu assured Government that the Church will continue praying for national leaders to foster development in Zambia.

Bishop Mususu said the Church is ready to pray for the government and believes that the PF government is going to develop Zambia as it seeks guidance from God.

He said the Church is ready to offer checks and balances, adding that through dialogue, any challenge can be overcome.

Bishop Mususu also called for peace and unity in the nation ahead of the presidential election.

“The ruling party should also lead by example by ensuring that there is peace and unity in the party. We are disappointed by what is happening in the PF,” he said in reference to intraparty wrangling.

And Mr Lungu said in an interview shortly after attending the church service that he is the people’s candidate as evidenced by the overwhelming support he is receiving from party members.

He said he is a popular candidate because he did not choose himself and that the support he is getting from 70 PF MPs and other party members is a clear demonstration that they want him to become party candidate for the presidential election.

And Mr Lubinda, who is also a PF presidential hopeful, said Dr Scott and all MCCs should reconcile to save the party from collapse.

“While we are fighting, opposition political parties are laughing at us, and they are working hard, campaigning for the presidential election,” Mr Lubinda  said.

Mr Lubinda said at a press briefing in Lusaka yesterday that the PF is embroiled in unnecessary squabbling and risks being the shortest-serving government in Africa with only three years in office.

He appealed to Dr Scott to unconditionally reinstate all the 16 suspended MCCs.

Mr Lubinda also appealed to the central committee to stand by its resolution of extending an olive branch to Dr Scott.

On the forthcoming PF general conference, Mr Lubinda said an independent body must be formulated to oversee the election because most of the MCCs have publicly declared support for particular candidates.

Meanwhile, Zambia Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) secretary general Roy Mwaba says the infighting in the PF is disturbing and a cause of concern to many Zambians.

Mr Mwaba said yesterday that the death of President Sata should have united all members in the PF and caused them to work as one.

He said the two factions in the PF should agree to work together for the common good of their party.

    • How can God listen to Edgar Lungu today, when he even failed to listen to Pastor Nevers Mumba’s prayers?
PF is done done done, and there is no way anyone can win presidency.
Lungu pray for your future, not PF’s future.

    • Lungu you have already lost, your fo0lishness has caught up with you. PF will not win this election, Zambians are tired of your
thuggery and confusion. HH will be president.

    • Iwe Edgar Kaminamisa, what makes you think those 70 hungry, desperate-for-jobs MP’s represent the views of the entire PF? They cannot impose you on the party like that.

A general conference is required to honour the wishes of the entire party.

    • @Chills, are u one of the Muzungu anikonde? Where is democracy if he can’t really listen to the representatives of the people. This Scott muzanya naye cos he has a personal vendetta in PF he wants to show why y, Cobra never allowed him to act.

    • Mj Banda, you don’t even know why Scott was not able to act as rebuilt an president. I pity you.

Scott is just trying to ensure the entire party has a hand in the selection of a candidate, just like we do in Canada not just a few desperate njala yani chita MP’s. Don’t forget if these MP’s were to lose their seats they would not have any other source of livelihood.

    • Greed, Selfishness. arrogance. dullness, etc. will kill PF. Just shows that it was a one man party. Thank you SATA that you took your Party to Levy Park. let them Go. enough nonsense.

    • The church has more serious issues to pray for and not waste time on failures such as PF who have not only disappointed God but masses of people who voted them into office. The church should be praying about young upcoming leadership not a disorganised PF! Edgar should always remember God not only when in trouble!

    • BA LUNGU THERE’S NO NEED FOR THAT PRAYER. PF MUST JUST FOLLOW THEIR CONSTITUTION. UNFORTUNATELY, YOU ARE ONE OF THEM NOT FOLLOWING IT. MULELUSA IF YOU CAN’T QUICKLY CHANGE BA KANITUNDILA IMWE.

    • Funny how Lungu wants to use God in his fights for PF Presidency; one hand he says God should provide that Candidate, while on the other hand he says that Candidate is HIM Lungu!

    • message to all bandits who stole money in government. Your next homes will be jail so please start running now. RDA AND ZESCO , first peace

  1. Lubinda, Guy Scott is not interested in reconciliation, he wants this party to be die and die at a very quick rate…but he wont succeed! He needs to reinstate the 16 because that can be a point of conflict at the convention. Guy Scott is not a leader worth respecting he is useless! As for Lungu…you have our support and we are on our way to support you, your Excellency.

  2. Let us pray’God we have been in the wildness for 40 +10 years, help us find a Joshua of this generation who will lead us into the promised land.help HH to prove the critise wrong if Zambians elect him, help lungu to reshape the destiny of pf,we know that this pharaoh Scott wants deals of supplying weapons to Zambia but u are mightier as your land claims to be a Christian nation.lastly for our departed leaders ,what is bound on earth is also bound in heaven.confuse the cartels till 20 January, amen.

  3. In everything we do, God first, that’s what we need from someone aspiring the highest office as Zambia is a christian nation. Keep it up Lungu.

  4. Hon Lungu is really level headed & if adopted by de Pf he will have a positive impact on Party.Should de Pf make a mistake and put de widow as its candidate, that will be the end of de party.Zambians value their culture & cant tolerate a widow who is still mourning to go on de political arena hastily. For once, let de acting party president do de correct thing.

  5. Guy should only reinstate this hooligans back in if they publicly apologize ..no ifs no buts …they the ones that started this nonsense in the first place by trying to suspend Guy Scott as party president…all this nonsense is engineered by godfather Chikwanda …wake up and be honorable .Drunkard LUNGU is being used ………….WE NEED A PEACEFUL ZAMBIA ……Guy is within his right to suspend anyone he chooses as he is now the defacto president of PF …period ….

  6. hh can only win when there is confusion. he cant win were there order. he is chancer who is very happy to see pf differing, pf bring back order and that will make hh very sad.

  7. of all the PF members of the central committee and aspiring candidates only Edgar Lungu has requested prayers from the church for his party and other political parties.

Given Lubinda impresses me. He is full of wisdom and is a peace maker. He has really tried. The man has the best interest of PF at heart. I wonder if Scott and his team has.

    • @observe, Scott is just a quack who has never been allowed to act in the time of cobra. He knew him well better than us. HH said Scott ni Muzungu opusa

    • I wonder too! Seems Scot and his minions has self-interests. they aren’t interested in national peace, coz these conflicts are affecting the nation at large; he should have been the one in the forefront trying to resolve conflicts, he is acting head for crying out loud

  9. After all that has happened and Lungu’s obvious desperation, it is hard to know how sincere this man is. Get rid of PF and start a clean page in our country.

  10. Why prayers now bo-Druken Master Lungu. When opposition leaders were being brutalised by your PF to you & Wynter it was okey. Even This Devil Paul Mususu was quiet.God should not be put to test by you liars. When did you use the biblical principles to rule Zambia since 2011.Your lies, corruption, stealing, nepotism & vices of bad governance is what you & Devil Mususu call biblical principles-God has now said yes to HH. Devil Paul Mususu you are even saying PF will continue to develop Zambia-which development are you seeing?PF will be surely intimidated & laughed at as they visit despondent expectant voters.Just to help illiterate & uero-bond blinded PF thugs -please PF has already lost these elections-but you can continue spending your easily earned uero-bond as all…

  11. THERE IS SOMETHING VERY WRONG GOING ON HERE.HON CHIKWANDA AND ONE MAN OF GOD SPOKE TO GUY ON SATURDAY AND THEY AGREED THAT THEY SHOULD ALL SIT DOWN AND RESOLVE THEIR DIFFERENCES ON SUNDAY DURING THE MEETING BECAUSE THAT WAS THE WAY FORWARD FOR THE PARTY.I DON’T KNOW WHERE GUY SCOTT IS GETTING INSTRUCTIONS FROM BECAUSE FROM NOWHERE, HE INSTRUCTED THE GATE THAT THE 16 CC MEMBERS SHOULD NOT ENTER STATE HOUSE.NOW THIS IS VERY STRANGE DEVELOPMENT.I KNOW HE’S SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO PUT THINGS STRAIGHT BUT AS PRESIDENT HE SHOULD BE THE ONE TO UNITE THE PARTY

  12. PF should first humble themselves and repent before God for their former secretary general’s insolence. Mr. Kabimba bragged that PF did not need God to win the elections in 2011. Fortunately, the sovereign Lord always has the last word!

  13. Lungu is not desperate, if he was he would not have handed over power. Now we know, the ones working with Scott are the ones desperate and want to force their way.
Just allow the convention to take place without banning anyone. If that is not done, others will boycott and its outcome will be regarded null and void and court cases will be initiated making it impossible for PF to campaign and field a candidate.
May be that is what Scott wants, after all we all know he has a second home. The majority of us only have Zambia and would like to continue living in peace. If people want Edgar who is Scott to stop them? We are slowly loosing our tempers!

    • If Lungu was not desperate he would not ve sided with Nguni and Jean Kapata in his affidavits because Chikwanda is on record saying no cabinet minister was theatened by anyone when they decided that Scott NOT Lungu should ve the instruments of power. The answer to Lungu’s problem is on his knees not the men/women of collar who disappointed FTJ after receiving brown envelopes.

  14. He corruptly got money from Zesco and China men for his campaigns and the man is asking for prayers. What a hypocrite this man is. Its him fueling all the confusion in PF by failing to recognise Guy Scott as the acting president of both PF and the republic. He is trying to run a parallel government with a team of losers. Guy has not thrown away Edgars application to stand for the PF top position. All he is saying is let the general conference elect the new president. Why can’t he comply. He doesnt way to be led but wants to lead others. What a useless man he is. When asked by a journalist after the church service about his chances of scooping the PF presidency the man proudly answered “Why not. I have the spport of ministers, mps, and carders. Im the next PF president”. Useless man!

    • But then why ban others from being there? And who really is supporting Scott? I can count them with the fingers on my 2 hands out of over 40 people. In democracy, the majority win, only a dictator can think otherwise.
On the other hand, the Central committee is the highest governing body in the PF, and not one man who cannot listen to the majority. Time will tell, he may just be finishing his political career.

  15. Lungu is the peoples choice.

As they say in Italy, “finita la musica, passata la fiesta.”

The music is done, party over!

  16. Ba Patriot Abroad imwe you need PF since you are from the family tree if I were you I would stat packing my suitcases and considering which company to hire to ship my katundu…indeed ‘finite la musica’..for you and yours
