Opposition United Party for National Development UPND President Hakainde Hichilema seems to have hit the ground running in the race for plot one.
While the ruling Patriotic Front PF is engrossed in a succession battle and the former ruling Movement for Multiparty Democracy MMD can’t agree who is eligible to stand between party President Nevers Mumba or former republican President Rupiah Banda Mr. Hichilema was today receiving more endorsements from Alliance for Democracy and Development , People’s Party and All People’s Congress Party.
Speaking at media briefing in Lusaka at the ADD Secretariate were the Presidents of the opposition parties endorsed and declared their support for Mr. Hichilema, ADD President Charles Milupi said his party had decided to back the UPND President because there is need for unity of purpose among opposition parties so as to redeem the people from the jaws of bad governance of the PF.
Mr. Milupi said it would be an absolute tragedy if the PF was allowed to continue their misrule of the country hence the need for the opposition to rally behind one candidate for the good of the country and avoid splitting votes which would disadvantage them.
He noted that the failure by the PF cabinet to advise the late President to hold a press conference to address important national issues summarises their poor performance adding that succession wrangles is evidence enough for all to see the immaturity of the party and its leaders.
“The forth coming Presidential elections is therefore a critical juncture that provides this nation an opportunity to change government and correct many of the wrongs that have occurred and drive the nation on a path that will enable us all to benefit from a sustainable exploitation of the abundant resources that are in the country.”
“In this regard, it will be an absolute tragedy to allow the PF that has presided over this country in the last three years to continue this legacy of misrule after January 2015.
“We are mindful of the fact that this election is critical and are aware that multiple-participation of opposition political parties will split the numbers of those that desire positive change for this country,” Mr. Milupi said.
And Mr. Hichilema said there is for the opposition to come together and unity the country which has been divided by the divisive rule of the PF in the last three years.
He said the opposition alliance gives the country the best short at a new constitution before the 2016 elections in which the 50 percent +1 is included and that it will help unity the country as the country will not be ruled by a minority President something he said has added to the divisions in the country.
Mr. Hichilema said the country’s electoral system is divisive and that the 50percent +1 is good for the country as no one ethnic group can lead the country in isolation but with other groups.
Mike Mulongoti of the People’s Party and Nason Msoni of the All People’s Congress Party also declared their support for Mr. Hichilema in the forth coming elections.

Tax collected can pay for education, health – have improved institutions so Zambians do not to travel abroad for treatment – roads, curb discriminations in mine suppliers. (You can borrow a leaf from Botswana to ensure maximum benefication from the natural resources!).

If one is telling you that he will form a government that includes all the people of Zambia, critically look at who surrounds him. If he is predominantly surrounded by people from one area or region of our country, how is he going to meaningfully bring in others from other parts of the country on an equal footing? Well, they can co-opt a few people from this corner and that corner of the country in a window dressing fashion, but we should know from experience how power is exercised in such circumstances. Co-opting one or two people from another region of our country does not make a tribalist cease to have a tribal consciousness. They may co-opt others from other regions of the country to simply increase their chances of winning an election. After that, they will go back to their tribal…
