Former Prime Minister in the UNIP government General Malimba Masheke has called the MMD to peacefully resolve their differences in the interest of the country’s democracy.

Speaking in an interview General Masheke said it was not in his place to tell the former ruling party who it should pick as the presidential candidate but that he was hopeful that the two factions will resolve their differences.

He expressed opportunism that the right thing will be done by the party and the rightful candidate picked for the party to successfully participate in the elections.

“As I’m not MMD I’m not going to talk about who they should choose for their program that is the preserve of the party and I can only wish them well and that God who gives us wisdom will give them wisdom to choose the correct person,”. General Masheke said.

And the general says it is not the age that should determine who should be president of the country.

He noted that what the country needs is a good hearted person who will unity the country and deliver on what he promises to the people so as to ensure that the country moves forward in her developmental agenda.

“As for age, even our constitution does not restrict about age. We want a good leader, we can have an incorrigible young person, you can have an incorrigible old man, we need a good hearted person who will lead well.”

  1. The concept of age is technical and needs to be approached with scientific accuracy and objectivity. The wonder kids start driving cars before the legally prescribed age. The wonder girls and wonder boys may face pregnancy at a very early age in relation to the normal age of motherhood. Similarly, beyond a certain age, it is not necessary to prove that some of the faculties are still functional. Staying away from strenuous exercise is advisable and highly recommended for elderly people. On that basis, seeking presidential office beyond a certain age is not acceptable. The law is can protect an individual but at the same time it can not protect the individual from herself or himself. This is where group survival optimization techniques meet individual caprices.
