UPND President Hakainde Hichilema has called for an end to demolition of illegal structures, and has promised that his government will solve all the problems related to land wrangles.

Mr Hichielam says he will re-align operations of councils to ensure all Zambians are accorded an opportunity to own land.

Meanwhile Mr Hichilema Party for National Development has called on Zambians to speak out on Gender Based Violence as part of participating in national development and curbing the vice.

Party President Hakainde Hichilema says GBV cases have continued increasing with impunity hence for all to participate in their various spheres such as in schools, the workplace, in doing business and in their homes.

He notes that Zambia is currently experiencing high levels of GBV of which most of it is targeted against women and girls.

Mr. Hichilema says once elected President of Zambia, he will ensure that the rule of law is strengthened to ensure the prevention of GBV if elected into government.

He adds that he will also increase resources allocation toward provision of services such as access to justice, protection, social and economic support to victims of GBV and other related cases.

The UPND leader says he will wear orange to show his support of Zero Tolerance for violence against women and to show that violence against women is a men’s issue too.

He said this in a statement to ZNBC News as Zambia joins the globe in commemorating the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women through the launch of the sixteen days of activism against GBV.

    • It is disappointing that HH now appears to be in “desperate” mood to get to plot one. He is simply promising anything and everything and I am afraid this reeks of lies, lies, lies. Street vendors and taxi, drivers are to stay causing havoc on our city and town streets. Demolision of “ILLEGAL” structures will be stopped (If it is illegal, it is illegal – Rule of Law). Free education, more nurses, lower taxes. This wont happen in the 18 months he has since he is the 1st one to say that the PF have run us into debt. So where is the money to come from for all these ambitious pledges?
All HH needs is to promise the constitution and a strong message to start reversing the DAMAGE caused by the PF. At least over the next 18months leading to 2016 elections

    • These are empty words that will not convince anyone at all. I think UPND should come to PF and form an alliance, silly as it sounds, but that is the only way they will survive and be nearer statehouse, me thinks

      Thanks

    • This being human.HH ‘s pledge not to demolish people’s houses before alternative temporal housing is in place is by far a better way to deal with issues of illegal occupation, more especially if its as a result of PF ‘s fault. HH is trying to clear the mess created by PF in the first place.

People were cheated by the lying PF to buy plots in exchange for votes via illegal arrangements with PF ward councilors. After PF won , it instead punished the poor people by demolishing their structures and leaving them without alternative housing. A clear sign of thuggery behaviour on the part of PF. The crooked PF councilors have not been reprimanded for Cheating innocent people.

Only f00ls can disagree with HH on this one because, they have personal hatred of him.

      Viva HH and UPND.

    • Another clown making useless promises, similar to 90 days constitution. How can you base your candidature on making promises that will create chaos in the country. This baby clown will do anything to get plot 1, even if it means selling off his third wife…..

    • HONESTLY SPEAKING, ADVISORS TO HH SHOULD WORK HARD AND ENSURE THAT THE WORDS OR VOCABULARY HE USES AND PROMISES MADE ARE NOT USED AGAINST HIM SHOULD HE BECOME THE REPUBLICAN PRESIDENT AND ALSO TO ENSURE THAT HE DOES WHAT HE SAYS WITHIN THE REMAINING PERIOD OF LESS THAN 2 YEARS ON WHICH ZAMBIANS WOULD JUDGE HIM TO GIVE HIM ANOTHER MANDATE IN 2016.

ALREADY HE HAS USED THE SAME WORD OF “ILLEGALITY” TWICE. HE WOULD RE-INSTATE NURSES WHO WERE FIRED FOR GOING ON AN “ILLEGAL” STRIKE, AND IN HERE HE IS ASKING SOMEONE THERE TO STOP DEMOLISHING “ILLEGAL” STRUCTURES! HE IS NOT USING WORDS LIKE, “REPORTEDLY” OR ASSUMED TO BE” ILLEGAL CONFIRMING THAT THESE WERE INDEED ILLEGAL AND STILL SAYS THEY ARE FINE AND WOULD DO NOTHING UNDER HIS ADMINISTRATION! SURE?

      WITH THE ALMOST ALL FREE…

    • Currently the pf govt has a more than 78 ministers, under the mmd we had 44 ministers,so if hh trims his cabinet alot of money will be saved and relocated to the employment sector, the other areas he mentioned don’t require money.

    • The majority of voters are either illegal squatters or landless. The message is targeted at them,. Once they vote us int office , we can then implement the laws. That’s what Sata and PF did. The Zambian voters have taught us that if you want to be elected, tell them what they want to hear not want you intend to do. In fact we must reduce the 90 days promise to 30 days.

    • @Tabs

The difference is HH ‘s party has not been selling plots to people illegally, while PF sold plots to people illegally and then demolished their houses without providing alternative temporal shelter.

PF’s actions were inhuman. How could it send bulldozers to demolish structures housing children and women without providing alternative temporal shelter?

PF cheated the people with plots, then punished them after winning elections.

If you can not discern the difference between Sata and HH then, you need your head examined.

The difference between PF and UPND is like night and day. HH is the day while PF is the night. PF lied during the day and in the night it planned how to cheat the people.

  1. THIS IS AN ENTRY POINT TO LAWLESSNESS SHOULD PEOPLE MAKE A MISTAKE TO VOTE IN UPND. BEFORE THIS HE SAID HE WON’T CHASE STREET VENDORS- THE SAME PEOPLE WHO CONDEMNED SATA OVER THE SAME. DESPERATION AT IT’S WORST. NEXT ON HH AGENDA IS: I WILL ALLOW POACHING OF WILD LIFE. STATE HOUSE WANTED- DEAD OR ALIVE.

    • Wel-spoken, as if you were reading my thoughts. While HH is at it, he should team up with Green Party and Legalize Marijuana…lol.
State House wanted – dead or alive…indeed.

  2. It’s an open stage. Perhaps if there were others on the campaign trail the blank page would have been filled and there’d be no room for sweet carrot sticks. In the meantime it’s candy time. Perhaps like me he thinks the street vendors can have their city centre while we go and build new cleaner cities and city centres without them. Chuckle.

  3. No wonder I have been wary of people indorsing and advising HH. Lawlessness should not be entertained or encouraged at any cost. What HH is preaching is counter productive and will just disorder. This type of desperation is dangerous for the country. HH please leave crooked up people who are advertising you. We want order in the country!

    • @Observer

Be careful with LT, ZR ‘s smear campaign against HH by reporting half truths about his pronouncements.

HH does not want lawlessness. He is simply providing a solution to clear the mess created by PF councillors and Mps who sold plots to people illegally.

Its not the people ‘s fault that they built on those places. They were told by PF to buy those plots , not knowing that it was illegal.

HH wants to move even the street vendor, but not before providing them with an alternative affordable market place. While PF wants to hire a South African consultant to solve the problem.

HH is merely dealing with PF’s hypocrisy.

    • Its not Guy to decide but the People of Zambia. they put Sata in power and surely they vote for a new president of their choice come January

    • @Chisha

Bembas have failed Zambia big time. Any regime that was heavily controlled by Bembas has been a total disaster.

KK was known to be Bemba from chinsaly, Chiluba, a Bemba, Sata a Bemba. I do not see any good done by any of these leaders in power apart from plunder and corruption.

Contrast these with Mwanawasa, and Banda non Bembas. By far the best governments ever.

If you go tribal, then Bembas are the worst people to lead any government on average. Zambia is yet to see a genuine Bemba leader.

    • Wanzelu

You sound more desperate than HH ( sonny chitombwa). So if someone builds on my land we should not destroy. Please let people without land go and build on Chitombwa’s farm/kraal.

  4. Old thinking, string of broken promises and next is subsidies back. HH you are to emotional we need practical solutions to keep the cost of services low.

  5. PND President Hakainde Hichilema has called for an end to demolition of illegal structures,

Does he understand the term ILLEGAL?I can see cattle ranching and fikochikala in the middle of town centres with HH in State House.

  6. You are taking HH’s point on vendors out of contest. He said he will not move then UNTIL he has an alternative place for them. Sorry ur dirty tribal tags won’t work this time it’s HH all the way. He has also promised to have a balanced government. Who said Zambia is for Bembas only? Sorry it’s ViVa HH 2015

  7. Zambia is now a laughing stoke as a result of PF and Sata. Are we serious we want to vote back PF honestly? We are too smart guys. HH will change Zambia for better. He is not coming for the belly Infact he will donate his salary to charity and he also doesn’t need a government built house. Viva HH2015

  8. This reminds me of sata in 2008, he thought he won until real results where announced, so dabo h m begging you don’t form rebal groups after the January polls..

  9. This is the problem of copy paste, copy paste because the late used “i promise to do this or that”.
Find another strategy sir. other wise you will fail to convince the voters.

  10. Wanzelu,

Based on what you and HH have said so far, herewith a summary of your and HH’s wish list:

The vendors stay on the streets; illegal structures are allowed; free education is given to all; taxes are reduced; and Bembas are eliminated from all forms of governance.

And you expect intelligent Zambians to vote for HH on the basis of such a wish list?

  11. THREE POLITICAL LEADERS ENDORSING HH YESTERDAY: M’SONI (M), MULONGOTI (M) AND MILUPI (M)! MMM FROM MMD? OR NO, BUT MANTUMBUSA, MAITENEKE AND MABUMBA!

  12. Wanzelu,

Let me further summarize what you have said about Bembas.

Bembas have failed Zambia; Bembas in government are a total disaster; Bemba leaders are not any good; Bemba leaders are only god at plunder and corruption; Bembas are the worst people to lead any government.

Surely, if this is what UPND supporters like you feel about Bembas, how safe are Bembas if HH became President? Lest we forget, the Nazi regime under Hitler began by first demonizing the Jews as bad people; this was then used as a rationale for the “Final Solution” – the extermination of all Jews.

Don’t you think you are scaring Bembas with your sentiments ?

  13. This is very disappointing coming from HH, if it is true. Who are his advisors? It is better not to comment on certain issues that have a potential for backfiring. He should not comment on each and every issue making weird promises. That can rightly be interpreted as a sign of desperation.

  14. Mushota is a benefiting from the Corruption of this PF government ,Came January 2015 you will rot in jail .We have all your full details.Enjoy for now

  15. Heartless PF members pretending not to have any poor relatives who live in such areas can call HH overzealous. A human President should find solutions before demolishing a structure where other human being live, offer them another dwelling and then demolish the illegal structure that is all what HH is trying to put across to all who do not understand him

  16. Is this really coming from educated economist HH’s mouth? HH promises are good for wooing votes but please HH keep your feet on the ground and offer sensible promises. Do not court more confusion to counter the PF confusion. Offer credible solutions to bring sanity to Africa’s filthiest capital, Lusaka due to street vending Rule of law/equity in allocation of plots/land (not preserve of councillors). Free this, free that and each man/vendor/illegal squatter is a law unto himself for the sake of politicking is not the new Zambia I look forward to, at least speaking for myself & hopefully other sensible Zambians! Is this advice you are getting from your presidential advisor William Banda?

    • @QUEST:

ILLEGAL STRIKES BY NURSES? VERY LEGAL & ALL WILL BE RE-INSTATED; DEMOLISHING OF ILLEGAL STRUCTURES? VERY LEGAL & THOSE DOING IT MUST STOP; WHAT ABOUT ILLEGAL LAND ALLOCATION? VERY MUCH LEGAL & DO NOT EVEN TALK ABOUT THAT; ILLEGAL MARRIAGES? VERY LEGAL FOR ANY TONGA BULL! WHAT ABOUT FREE THINGS? EVERYTHING & WILL INCLUDE: FREE EDUCATION FROM PRE-SCHOOL TO UNIVERSITY LEVEL FOR ALL EXISTING UNIVERSITIES, THE ONES TO BE BUILT IN ALL PROVINCES (INCLUDING PRIVATE ONES), THE TECHNICAL SCHOOLS, ETC & THESE WOULD NOT ONLY BE FOR ONE YEAR BUT FOR EVER & VERY MUCH SUSTAINABLE! ALL THESE PLUS THE MASSIVE INFRASTRUCTURE UNDER CONSTRUCTION INITIATED BY PF? NO, I WILL HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH PF PROJECTS BUT INTRODUCE SUBSIDIES, LOWER FUEL PRICES, LOWER MEALIE MEAL…

  17. Zambians are clever and wise (HH). You can’t f..l us. You need to wise up. Your levels of desperation are at an all time high. Why are you promising to legalize illegal structures? Is this what your campaign team told you: “Just tell them lies like the way Sata told them lies”
hahahahahahahah, sleeping cow (HH), Sata was a man of the people, a clever politician who gave conceivable promises, the fruit of what we are seeing now. You are an amature with no experience. Just resign on January 23rd and we’ll forgive you, let UPND be led by a true leader. Otherwise we shall paint you red and put you in front of the bulls on your farm

  18. ba (HH) the dreamer. To survive in Zambian politics you need to be tough. Good luck on your long awaited nationwide tour, we’ll follow you closely in cow-drawn carts. But You and your children will be crying in 2015 after your futile attempts to enter Plot 1.
I foresee the UPND feeding you to the wolves on January 23rd. Swaaah!

  19. Promises are all too easy to offer, they cost nothing. the fulfilling of any said promise comes at a time of changed circumstances, very different from the circumstances under which they were offered. Therefore, wisdom dictates an honest scrutiny of oneself before giving any vows. Do not promise anything in hasty. What you vow you must pay, perhaps the question is: Will u pay what you vowed when you find that things aren’t exactly as you expected?

  20. SEE HIM FOR WHAT HE IS!!!

No principles just one objective which is to get to State House.

How can everything illegal suddenly become legal under the UPND? Zambians should not vote using emotions. This man is Chimbwi No Plan. If there is one thing that the PF did well is restore order to illegal allocation of land. HH promises to reverse this! SHAME.

See you on January 20th, 2015

  21. guys sure HH is under 5. How can a person allow illegality? Nonsense, has HH experienced how painful it is to have your plot taken away from you by cadres and criminals? No HH, please if you are running mad go to chainama mental clinic. Who can really vote for such a clueless person who once in power will support cadres taking land from owners? What a dull thought..useless HH.

  22. I will not be appeased by the carrot dangling tactics HH is using. I suggest that he should articulate issues of national development lucidly like a learned person.

  23. HH is proving to be popular only but on the media, contrary to what is on the ground,I have noticed of recent how vicious the man has become, every day on the main news saying Zambia forward but close look at his party symbol its pointing backwards, dont argue if you havent noticed this i for one i have seen the hand pointing backwards, furthermore if he has to win this election he should not concentrate only in Kanyama and Dambwa site and service ,rather he should take his symbol across the country like pambashe, and lunte in these areas very few knows about him if any.Honestly he can reach to the remotest area to denounce the PF since all the roads leading to the most of rural areas have been done by PF,and it will be seen as being Hypocrites if not mentioned that he personally opposed that

  24. It makes sad reading that some bloggers here are soo dull that they can’t understand simple things, HH is not saying he will stop the demolishing of illegal structures but will sort out all land problems and re align the council operations to ensure that no more land is allocated illegally and if land was illegally allocated it will be given to the rightful owners of the land. We have land wrangles because previous council operations were not effective enough! HH for presido! Hello hater.
