Lusaka Mayor Mulenga Sata has announced his decision to withdraw his nomination for the PF presidency with immediate effect.
Mr Sata told a news briefing in Lusaka that he has decided to withdraw from the PF presidential race in order to concentrate on building his young political career.
He said, “Much has been said and written about the presidential candidature of the members of the Sata family since the untimely death of my father, His Excellency Mr Michael Chilufya Sata on October 28 2014. I am aware of that some of these utterances by Party members and well meaning citizens have been tantamount to giving the impression that the Sata family is greedy and wants to perpetuate a legacy which could be likened to an Imperial Monarchy.”

He added, ” I have read and listened to some of these utterances with pain, but also with attention. I have now had a serious opportunity to discuss all these matters with my mother’s, Mrs Margaret Sata and the First Lady Dr Christine Kaseba, my wife and other members of my family.”
Mr Sata has also dispelled the notion that the Sata family is at war with itself adding that those that entered the presidential race did so out of a genuine desire to serve the party and the country.
“Having carefully reflected on this matter for several days, I have come to the rational conclusion that one or some of us have to take a logical and selfless step backwards in the best interest of the party. A polarized and divided party does not augur well for our future.”
M?r Sata added, ” I am therefore announcing my unilateral decision to withdrawn my presidential candidate for the PF with immediate effect. In political terms I am still a young man and will therefore reserve my right to represent my presidential candidature in the future.”
He hoped that the general conference this weekend will elect a leader who will unite the party and religiously carry my Father’s? legacy and vision for the PF and Zambia forward.
“This is of vital importance to enable us to face the electorate on January 20th 2015 as a strong and united party. We shall need mature and level heads to prevail. This will be the best way of honoring and respecting my Father’s legacy and everything he stood for.”
It is probably the only good thing he has done for the rest of life.
He had little to no chance and he was getting to big for his own boots.

Mulenga Sata is not impeccable, because this is what he wants the downtrodden people to believe. Elementarily/primarily, he contested the PF’s decision of blocking his presidential candidature in the impending presidential bye-elections by taking the PF NEC to court. Subsequently, the court categorically ruled in his favour and, this is the very decision which he wants. Furthermore, Mulenga wants people to regard him as a blameless individual, which is bullsheet. He is simply preparing himself for exploitation of docile Zambians. He is a crook and a naive politician.

I hope Mulenga Sata reads LT. The fight at the convention will be between the Cartel’s candidate Kaseba and Lungu. However the Lungu team is at a disadvantage in that the list of delegates to the convention is controlled by the Cartel. My advice to team Lungu is that if they suspect the elections to be rigged, they should not accept the results but come back from Kabwe and regroup quickly. They can either join the Rb team or Haikande because thats where the real competition will be. Forget Nevers, he does not know what he wants. If Nevers thinks he would be accepted in UPND alone, then he has another think coming. Team Lungu going with ABZ will not do, because thats a one man party not known in Zambia. Its either RB or Hakainde (MMD or UPND), the parties of the future.
He doesn’t qualify. Has to wait until the constitution is changed. PF has to scrutinize candidates very carefully otherwise they’ll end up with no presidential candidate like what happened to UNIP in 1996. KK ended up lying that UNIP had boycotted the election when the reality was that KK didn’t qualify to contest.
At least he listened to advice and has avoided consequences of that risky move. Now he has to wait until the constitution is changed. He is young and educated.
He will be a great President some day if the smart people of the Zambian Enterprise so wish to put him in office; for now he has some incubation to attend to.
I know he would be a great President some day because I have watched him from the time he got at UNZA in the School of Engineering and he never called attention to himself despite the name recognition. He is also a very rational individual, a little different from his father in certain regards.

He can put whatever positive spin onto it. But I expected him to at least say he supports stepmom or someone else but again he wants to play it safe.

Too little too late, the damage has already been done. He should have never entered the race in the first place. This is what they call in the Western political landscape as a ‘political misstep’. Over here his political career would have been shattered irreparably. It means his judgment is suspect and if he were a man of integrity, this would have haunted him forever. In politics correcting a wrong political move can amount to political su!cide – consistency is key, wrong or right.
I heard he filed an injunction in the High Court… has he withdrawn that injunction? Truth be told, he withdrew because his lawyer told him he stands no chance on the parental clause. He better pray that the next guy changes this for him.
We sort of don’t want changes on the parental clause. We need to keep Zambian gov’t for pure breed! We must ensure, it protects the office of the president from those that have mixed culture and no longer are proper Zambian.
