Share

Zambia Episcopal Conference Chairperson Fr. Cleophas Lungu has called on political parties engaged in choosing their candidates to do so democratically and avoid unnecessary acrimony.

Fr. Lungu told Journalists in Lusaka today that there is need for peace to prevail as the parties embark on choosing their candidate something he said can only happen when the elections are done in a democratic, fair and credible way.

And Fr. Lungu says there is need for democratic growth among political parties in the country.

He said democracy needs to grow not only in the country as a whole but within individual political parties as well something he noted will ensure good governance once elected in office.

Fr. Lungu observed that the only way to ensure good democratic governance is by ensuring that political parties grow their institutions democratically as opposed to trying todo that while in office.

Fr. Lungu’s comments come’s in the wake of growing divisions in the Movement for Multiparty Democracy MMD with Rupiah Banda accepting to stand on the party ticket while party president Nevers Mumba has called on party members to ignore the former President.

The call is also timely as the PF are set to elect their presidential candidate amid high tension this weekend.
