The NGOCC has called on Zambians especially women to support Edith Nawakwi is the January @015 presidential by elections.NGOCC Chairperson Sara Longwe said at this critical moment that we decide our fate for the next 50 years, it is time Zambians give a woman the chance to lead this great nation. She said Ms Nawakwi is highly committed to promoting national and local policies that address the socio-economic and political challenges facing women, children, and disadvantaged groups.

Press Statement

The Non Governmental Organisations’ Coordinating Council (NGOCC) reaffirms its resolution of the 18th General Assembly to support Ms Edith Nawakwi as the only female candidate in the January 20, 2015 Presidential elections.

Now that it has become abundantly clear that, Ms Nawakwi will be the only female Presidential candidate in the forthcoming elections, we would like to urge all well-meaning Zambians, especially women to support her candidature. Ms. Nawakwi is an experienced and seasoned politician with over 20 years in politics. she is one of the founders of multi party democracy in our country, who has served in various portfolios. She has been a leader of one of the stable political parties in the country.

While appreciating some of the achievements made over the last 50 years, the challenges that beset our country are without doubt a result of the poor leadership by the successive governments. At this critical moment that we decide our fate for the next 50 years, it is time Zambians give a woman the chance to lead this great nation.

Women are naturally compassionate, loving, caring and understand the complex needs of the community and indeed the country. As a mother, we believe that Ms Nawakwi will provide leadership that will accelerate the social economic development of our country. It is also our strong view that once voted Ms Nawakwi will enhance development in education, infrastructure, and health standards.

Ms Nawakwi is highly committed to promoting national and local policies that address the socio-economic and political challenges facing women, children, and disadvantaged groups. We have no doubt if voted into power on 20 January 2014, Ms Nawakwi will be effective in promoting a honest government.

We would like therefore to urge all political parties to maintain peace during this campaign period. We also urge the MMD and the Patriotic Front (PF) to immediately resolve their succession disputes and work to address themselves to promoting an environment where democracy should prevail. We also take note of the prevailing tensions and vivid intolerance within the main leading political parties. This is totally uncalled for and a clear manifestation of self-interest above national priorities.

Finally, we urge Zambians to VOTE for Ms. Nawakwi.

    • @yaba love that. I think what our educated mama is implying is that, even if a fly stands we shud vote fo it provided its female. What fine brains? But btween Nawakwi and young HH, I would go fo her. At least she has the decency of never used a bicycle as a vehicle to state house

  1. BaNawakwi has no fresh ideas. Baletekafye nkumba. In 2008,she sapoted Nyama Soya who eventually brot hell. This tym mukomfwa ati nasapoya Edger Kabotolo Lungu. Tababa principod abafyashi aba. Nibamuselela kwakaba.

    • Nawakwi is a product of the failed MMD regime which privatised government businesses and shared the money.

There is nothing new she will bring back into governance. She is struggling to make ends on her own and decided to stick to politics because only through it is she able to survive.

I personally do not want some one who gets into state house and prioritise how to enrich him/her self on the back of the poor. I do not believe in recycling politicians.

She was minister of finance in the chiluba government but the ignored the rampant stealing that took place under her watch as Finance minister. She knew the existence of Zam troop account but never said anything at all.

Only HH is genuinely going into government to serve the people and donate his salary for good cause…

    • Not Edith, she stole Hambulo from another woman. People lets not forget the Carringtone sage when she was a minister in MMD.

  2. NGOCC we are not in the mood for such campaigns. Not now. Our goal is to get #FlightHH2015 into Plot 1. Air tickets are bought and we should be arriving in Zambia after Xmas to help faka pressure, so please spare me.

  3. how will she form cabinet with no MPs . you begin to question the brains in Sara Longwe,s head???. This is typical of tuntemba NGO’s MISPLACED PRIORITIES. GOD help Zambian from day dreamers bring confusion in the nation.

    • Quite simple, join up with Edgar Lungu and the 70 or 82, after they resign and re contest their seats as they are unhappy with Scott, treating PF as his own property.

  4. Non-govermental is correct for us men to say all men vote for a male candidate.this will also include our wives .Please stop this cheap campaign we want to sort out problems in our country were the lives of the people will be improved. For now can the organisation be pushing for the constitution and other important things

  5. Good. We have a Campaign 08 – standing on the pick me for my gender platform is full of irony but there is a definite glass ceiling for women in politics so good luck, smash away and grab votes.

Campaign 01 meantime has headed North to the newly charted territory and will be hugging chiefs.

Where is the honest and hard working Lone Ranger Campaign 02? Speak up General.

Campaign 03 hit Chibolya to compare lifestyles while waiting to face off with the Pastor in Campaign 04.

Campaign 05 – NAREP wherefore art though?

Campaign 06 (ED) and 07 (Mileage) had a punch out in the city centre and are nursing wounds ahead of court dates…

  6. Zambia is not yet ready for a female president. there is to much pride in Zambian men. its a journey of insult to get to plot one, lots of selfishness and brutality like we are seeing from the PF which makes the all process not conducive for a woman.

  7. PROBLEM KAILI SHE JUST POPS UP WHEN THER’S AN ELECTION. DOES SHE HAVE COUNCILLORS? no! mp’S? no! SOOOOOOOOOOOO NIYA HOW KANSHI? NANGA GRILLO WHERE IS SHE? MISS HER MWE.

  8. @Sara get serious for once.Kindly stop dreaming & serving your belly! So in your analysis surely you settled on Nawakwi & you call yourself ATI NGO chief executive! Just continue burring your head in denial. This time we do not entertain jokers & people with unscrewed warped grey matter. Its leaders(women mostly) with such compulsions & inept irrational grey matter who promotes mediocre leadership in Zambia. You are moronish than Libongani! Its not a matter of just supporting a Woman this time- Sara-More critical analysis & radical high order thinking is being employed due to balkanisation & fallen social-economic development. Please sycophants stay away with your UKWISH outbursts. Jokes aside now-No more UKWAS in State house! Moreover we already have Mumba,Miles,RB…

  9. Nawakwi is a good contender for first Female President, especially over the next 2 years leading to General Elections. Let’s test her out.

I think she can resolve her problems, by quickly joining with Lungu and the PF MPs unhappy with Scott a The a Terrible. Resigning, forcing boys for their seats, recontesting them to win seats for her.

Well a bit long winded, but she can try her negotiating skills. Most likely Edgar would insist on President and her VP. I’d give it a go if I were her! As for Edgar, after Friday’s hearing, if he has not the role as won Last Saturday, what has he to lose?

  10. hahahah kekeke Kikikik…So you are her campaign manager as NCCC? May be we also tell the men to vote for their fellow men.

I don’t even think you mean what you have said coz you yourself will not vote for Nawakwi. Is it not you women who say you cant vote for your fellow woman? ati “BAKALAUMFWA”

    Next news please.

  11. Why are people soliciting for votes for their preferred candidates,
vote for sampa, vote hh, vote edith, vote for lungu, vote mumba, vote rupiah. My vote is my own I don’t need anyone to tell me who to vote for.

  12. This time Flight HH2015 plus the mojority voters is two in one: MMD needs two ie Mumba plus RB & PF needs Miles plus his Kachasu Drunken Master Lungu. Very Very serious elections.

  13. Not discounting Nawakwi because she is a woman. I actually agree that we need more women taking leadership roles in our political process. With that said the issue with Nawakwi is that many see her as being part of the past and failed governments. Her tenure and performance as minister were not impressive. Especially her failed policies when she was minister of energy. In her defense it was because she was thrust into a government ministry whose technical and scientific knowledge she did not have. Energy policy requires a very sound knowledge of scientific principles and global commodity, economic and geo political landscapes.like the ministers of her time she was applying cadre political methodology to very complex problems. In short she is a cadre politician.

  14. Not Edith, she stole Hambulo from another woman. People lets not forget the Carringtone sage when she was a minister in MMD.
