PATRIOTIC Front (PF) president Edgar Lungu has appealed to the Church to pray for politicians during the transition.

Mr Lungu said when he attended a mass at the Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary here yesterday that the Church should pray for both the opposition and ruling party to help maintain peace and unity.

“What I am saying is please continue praying for all of us the opposition and the ruling party. Politicians are here to work for the people and during our work, we argue but we always reconcile and embrace,” he said.

Mr Lungu said politicians sometimes argue and use strong language against each other but they always sort out their problems amicably and move forward.

He also said the church should not hesitate to suggest and contribute to the wellbeing of politicians because they make up the community as well.

“Tell the politicians the truth and tell it to them in their faces. Our job as politicians is to politick and debate, and argue every day. We argued in the PF but after some differences, we have come together to continue working,” Mr Lungu said.

He urged the church not to shy away from addressing politicians because the clergy are only doing God’s work.

Mr Lungu said the work of the church is to bring love, peace and unity amongst Zambians.
Cathedral of Assumption of Mary priest Reverend Nicholas Mumbi said the people of Mansa are happy and privileged to receive Mr Lungu.

Rev Mumbi hoped it is not the last time the people of Mansa are seeing Mr Lungu.
He urged Zambians to maintain peace, love and unity before, during and after the January 20 presidential election.

At a a rally held in Mansa, Mr Lungu said that the ruling party will embrace members of opposition political parties because it was founded on the principles of love and inclusiveness.

Mr Lungu said when he addressed a rally here yesterday that the PF should endeavour to recruit more members in preparation for the 2016 tripartite elections.

“We should open hearts and receive people from the MMD, United Party for National Development, National Restoration Party (NAREP) and other parties so that we grow bigger.

“Do not be upset and surprised when you see people from other parties joining us. Just welcome them so that we can continue to grow our party,” he said.

Mr Lungu, who is Minister of Justice and Minister of Defence, urged PF members to welcome and embrace those joining the PF and to orient them to the democratic tenets and values of the ruling party.

He also said he has his own vision but that for now, he wants to fulfil President Sata’s vision of developing the country.

“I have my own vision and if I am given a chance in 2016, Zambians will see my ideas. For now, let’s work as one and build our country,” Mr Lungu said.

Earlier, Mr Lungu’s wife, Esther, called on Zambians to support her husband because he cannot work alone.

Mrs Lungu said power lies in the people and Mr Lungu needs the support from all citizens.
She also described PF national chairperson Inonge Wina as an iron lady.

And Mrs Wina urged PF members to continue organising the party and to ensure all corners of the country receive the campaign message of voting for Mr Lungu on January 20.

She said Mr Lungu has blessings from the Litunga, who gave him a walking stick.

Minister of Youth and Sport Chishimba Kambwili said this is not time for members to be attacking each other but to instead promote unity and peace.

Mr Kambwili said there is need for the PF to move forward and this can be achieved by loving each other and uniting.

He said PF has 241 development programmes for Luapula Province, which can only be completed by the PF.

Mr Kambwili warned that the projects will stall if the people of Luapula vote for the opposition.

Kabwata member of Parliament Given Lubinda said the PF is a united party and the perceived infighting was only part of intra-party democracy.

Others who spoke and urged the people of Mansa to vote for Mr Lungu are Minister of Foreign Affairs Harry Kalaba, Deputy Minister of Health Chitalu Chilufya, All People’s Party president Mike Mulongoti and Alliance for Better Zambia leader Frank Bwalya.

    • I think Edgar Lungu has a bit of mentally retarded. I think he suffered alot of umusanfu ku bwaiche. And a sure balimulisha Bana Dalitso. LOOK AT HIM. I will not be surprised if I found Edgar pounding ground nuts for his dry-fish he bought from Mansa.

  1. Whilst you welcome those people that join PF from other parties, likewise, thunderously send off those that leave PF for others parties.

    • Matthew 5:23-24 tells us that those who have been wronged must be the ones to make peace that it may be well with you. Lungu go for it . All is well.

  2. Join PF lol no sir your party is bleeding membership. After the way you have failed the people of Zambia why should anyone in their right mind want to board a sinking ship? PF can not list two things they have done right while in power. Now Kambwili for possible vice president. No sir you are out!!

  3. POLITICIANS SHOULD STOP TELLING THE CHURCH WHAT TO DO, BUT SHOULD THEMSELVES SEEK GODLY COUNSEL FROM THE HOUSE OF GOD. THAT IS THE ORDER OF THE BIBLE AND THE WAY GOD HANDLES HIS AFFAIRS.

WHERE IN THE BIBLE DID A RULER TELL THE PROPHETS WHAT TO DO. (EVEN THE HIRE ABLE PROPHETS SAID “WHO CAN CURSE WHAT THE LORD HAS BLESSED?”)

LET US PRACTISE CHRISTIANITY NOT OUR OWN WISEFUL THINKING

    • You are right my dear. I get worried when the church leaders start finding themselves at rallies. Let God be God. Some so called priest, pastors and clergy in generals are just opportunists (kalilo fye). Many churches have lost direction like many citizens.

  4. Marco pray for your president he needs prayers to make it through these gruesome
Campaigns otherwise he won’t make it alive

  5. Very wise words Mr. President. The way to go with sense of humility. Sky no longer the limit to the humble. We should also appreciate all those who tangled with Lungu but now supporting him, the likes of Kambwili, Simusa, Lubinda, phangula, and others that they are the real men of victory. They have not lost but won for supporting Lungu. They have actually united the nation. Good spirit indeed. Lungu must take good appreciate this turn of event. Now up to sampa to stop turning in self pity and mad but humble himself and join the band wagon of EL and the rest. Willy Nsanda, you are real man and target focused. Mama Wina Inonge, you are a mother figure. You tuly love your country. We love you mum.

  6. Zambia should not allow this confused party to rule again. We made a mistake voting them into power in 2011 and as soon as that happened it was misery for us. People were fired, food prices shot up, petrol is now very expensive. Why do you people forget so easily. PF cannot be allowed another chance. Let’s get RB back till 2016. He is the best candidate right now.

  7. Master plan@ I agree with you. RB for President nafuti nafuti. Zambia don’t be fooled by PF and no room for experiments with HH, maybe 2016

  8. Mr Lungu, baza kupaisa aba ma chancers, whose only interest is to perpetuate their ‘eating’ in government. You really sound visionless. Tell us how you will change the arrangment of the RDA, which for a long time has been operating from State House, with a full time chairman – is that normal? I think payback time is coming; I can see it approaching, and the nearer it gets, the hard you will be pushed!

  9. EL ON COURSE NO MATTER WHAT OTHERS MAY SAY. LET HIM FAIL ON HIS OWN. BUT VICTORY IS INSIGHT. IF NOT WHOEVER WINS, WINS FOR THE COUNTRY.

  10. Ya, let’s pray for politicians who are enjoying taxpayers money obtained from illegal uses whilst the rest of the population wallows in poverty on 1 dollar a day. This man needs his head examined….what type of a lawyer is this who cannot express himself articulately in public.

    • Most genuinely intelligent people have a problem with public speaking and they should not be judged on that basis. Most crooks are excellent speakers and can convince a white man to buy skin bleaching cream.

  11. Yah, Mwanawasa had speech problem but very brilliant leader. Edgar Lungu has that miled problem but a workholic, very committed and simple in approach.

  12. PALI PF PENA NANGU NINDWALA KUYA MUKU VOTER. COME 2O JAN HALEISA HALEISA WILL BE CRYING

VIVA EL. THE YOUNGEST PRESIDENT EVER
