MMD presidential candidate Dr Nevers Mumba launched his presidential bid for the January 20 2015 election with a colourful and well attended rally at Chibote grounds in Kitwe’s Chimwemwe Township.

And Dr Mumba said he will remove Statutory Instrument 103 of 2013 which introduced Excise Duty on goods and equipment imported by Churches and other religious organisations because it has negatively affected the work of the Church.

He said he will also allow Churches to meet and fellowship in Government Schools as long as there is an existing contract between the school management and the Church.

The MMD leader further promised to formalise the declaration of Zambia as a Christian Nation by introducing a National Thanksgiving Day to acknowledge God’s blessings.

Dr Mumba who spoke mostly in the local Bemba dialect promised the people of the Copperbelt that he will address all their problems once elected President because he understands what they are going through.

Dr Mumba said will address the worsening plight of miners and ensure that the business environment and contracts in the mining sector are enhanced to the local people.

He also promised to upgrade the standards of street vending by improving the conditions under which street vendors operate.

‘There is no country on earth without street vendors even America has street vendors. We will allow vendors to operate from the street except we will upgrade their businesses and ensure that they operate in clean environment with proper sanitation,’ Dr Mumba stated.

He also promised to enact a new constitution by 2016 saying Zambians deserve a people driven constitution that will stand the test of time.

‘By 2016, this current constitution will be no more. We shall give you a brand new constitution that will guarantee your freedoms and liberties.’

Dr Mumba also promised to reverse the removal of subsidies on fuel, Maize and Fertiliser which he said has increased the cost of living especially for poor Zambians.

He said he is one of the most experienced politicians among those vying for the republican presidency because he served as Vice President under the late President Levy Mwanawasa.

‘We formed NCC when i was just 37 and i was appointed republican Vice President at 43. I have amassed experience over the years to make me a good President. Zambians know me, the people of Kitwe know who Nevers Mumba is and you know you will get God fearing and quality leadership,’ he said.

The MMD also demanded that the PF government pays all the farmers that supplied Maize to the Food Reserve Agency and cleans up the bursary system in Zambia.

Dr Mumba also reassured MMD supporters countrywide that the perceived wrangles with Mr Rupiah Banda are nonexistent.

He maintained that the MMD only has one President adding that he respects Mr Banda as former President but that he needs to rest.

Dr Mumba’s campaign rally was televised live on ZNBC main channel, Muvi TV and several other private radio stations across the country.

Dr Mumba was flanked by several National Executive Committee members, his wife Florence while prominent gospel recording artistes among them Malembe Malembe and the Ngosa Brothers were on hand to offer entertainment at the rally.

    • Impressive. 1. The same guys where wearing 100% PF at Lungu, are the same wearing 100% MMD. Same black ballets. I think they are Jerabos.

    • RB’s return is not about winning the elections but aimed at spoiling HH’s chances of success. Muhabi and team know RB cannot win but they think he shall garner more votes than Nevers and thus reducing HH’s chances of getting to Plot 1.

  2. I think Nevers is better than Lungu, he seems to understand the grass root. I would vote for him before over that chicken.

  3. Real battle is between Nevers and Lungu. Watch the space. The two traditional cousins are at each other in a contest of leadership. All others may with time be relegated to curtain raisers. PF must work extremely hard to take the mantle or else Nevers may pull a surprise, more if RB removes himself from dividing membership and rally behind Nevers. Scott ,PF needs your involvement in these campaigns. You do not need to play” wait and see” game. The wave of people has spoken. Follow it. Nevers increase your momentum, you may be first or second, whichever case you will have built inroads to state house. View point. For UPND, consider GARRY NKOMBO next time. He is over and above a likeable personality countrywide. He is a well articulate person and mature, only chance has not been given to…

  4. We know about these politics. This is going to tribal issues.People can see for themselves that HH is the man,but bembas dont like him.

    • @das don’t despair my brother .The wind of change is every were. Its the town Bembas only in Kasama and samfya Bembas love HH.HH will emprove his votes from Bemba land. All is need is 240,000 votes and leave the rest with his strongholds.HH will win with a big margin of 48%.

  5. MMD = Looters e.g. 2011 elections

Nevers = Hypocrite e.g. will be based in Texas if Florence has anything to do with it, just check his cap.

There is no organized street vending, will never work in our setting. Dont confuse flea markets in US with daily street vending.

Be practical and don’t promise impossibles….

    • Next you’ll say because she is a Pastor’s wife she cannot even wear perfume. How does painting nails affect her Christianity? Cite a scripture in the Holy Bible that says she cannot paint nails.

  6. I think Mumba will be number 2 while HH as usual Number 3.

Faka mulilo Lungu, wapya baisa ba PF.

Peace and Prosperity to Mother Zambia.

  7. Campaign 04 hits the trail and gets a chance to deliver its message. A busy week of court lies ahead but my question is does Kitwe have to await the other MMD campaign or can they just watch old TV footage as he is promising more of the same? Could be cost effective for this two headed body to travel and campaign/fight on the road til the band breaks up…

  8. …all of sudden these guys have the loot to buy live air time on TV and radio stations….???….hire live bands…???…we end up getting another euro-bonds to pay back the financiers….

  9. i was in Kitwe this Saturday.. EL’s rally had a hired crowd even as far as lusaka, kabwe and they didnt meet these number.

wait for HH rally and you will see genuine voters turn up. not EL who looks good when his mounth is shut and useless when he decideds to speak
