Centre for Reproductive Health and Education (CRHE) has expressed concern over the continued poor conditions were women are delivering on the floor at the university teaching hospital (UTH).

CRHE executive director Amos Mwale has told qfm news in an interview that there is urgent need for the ministry of health to find a solution.

Mr. Mwale said that it is heartbreaking and unacceptable to have women giving birth on the floor due to shortage of beds at the maternity ward at UTH.He said that reproductive health care should be top priority if mothers and babies lives can be saved.

Mr. Mwale has since appealed to health minister dr. Joseph Kasonde to immediately address the issue of women delivering on the floor at UTH and health centers for the benefit of the country.

  1. Vote for PF for continuity of the last 3 years! Vote PF for more floor deliveries, more nurses strikes, more firing of nurses.VOTE Edgar Lungu for more of PF!

    • Its because the PF has done nothing but miserably failed in their 3years of poor and pathetic leadership.
Mr Sata was busy being a moving showcase museum in foreign hospitals whilst our mothers and women are giving birth on the floor is disgusting, disheartening indeed but shocking!
Farmers have not been paid their moneys, so are freedom fighters and retirees. Students have suffered together with journalists and people with different views from PF, have suffered injustice enshrined with no freedom of expression or choice. PF fired over 200 nurses of which States like Australia cherish them as the rocks of heath.
Shame to PF and their lies, this is sickening and not normal.
PF has no heart for the people & on 20~1~15 to be voted out.

    • As long as the floor is sterile and someone is attending to the birth, that’s ok. The writer of the article was probably born on the floor too!

It’s not a medical plus if a women gives birth on a bed. Women can give birth in different ways, there are water births, squatting births etc. So let’s look at the bigger picture and not get stuck on floor births.

  2. It is a shame to have such government and to let them continue mistreating Zambians.
Even students sponsored by the government abroad have not been paid even 1ngwee. can you imagine the misery one undergoes in a foreign land?
The excuse is we have not been funded from treasury!!!!
Has chikwanda chewed all the money for students abroad? Why are they giving sata s death as an excuse for luck of funding? Please people wake up and think of plan b or plan c for all the poor students in foreign lands.
It is not the same as when is back home where you can just go back to your village and wait for funding.

  3. Which is cheaper? To buy maternity beds at UTH or to hire choppers for campaign? What did Kaseba do with K1 billion allocation to her? What kind of future do those Zambians born on UTH floors have? Its sickening to say the least. As it is i will go for change and that means HH.GOD BLESS ZAMBIA.

  4. Thumbs up if you’re happy with mothers giving birth on concrete floors and will vote EL. Thumbs down if you want change through HH. Vote now.

  5. Where in the world are our women still delivering children on the floor. You say PF should continue, this is an insult to our mothers, sisters, wives. Before you deal with any economical issues, this is a number one priority as it touches everyone. PF should be kicked out as soon as possible. I would vote for a flog over Lungu.

  6. It’s surprising how women don’t raise and champion this issue.it’s unacceptable to deliver on the floor in the hospital.some even pay for high cost but deliver from low cost and walk away quietly. This issue is beyond UTH management.Government should take up it’s responsibility, we paying taxes aren’t we.floor deliveries at UTH have litte to do with shortage of beds, there is actually no room space.maternity is still the same as super ken left it.something ought to be done, let’s respect our mothers by providing descent maternity care, labor is enough stress already.

  7. Like my dear girlfriend Nawakwi said, Zambia has enough wealthy to take care of its people. Chizungu cho tyoka aside, I’m sure we all get the point. It is heart breaking to see such things in a country with more than a few superfluously wealthy individuals. Not to mention a country that is still wealthy in resources despite years of plunder, thievery and neglect.

  8. And you have got this ***** “Nubian Princes” saying as long as the floor is sterile. How can you have a sterile floor in an area where are walking through and trolleys are being wheeled. A bit of Microbiology and infection control tells you that can never be a sterile environment. Are you so evil that you don’t have an ounce of care for fellow humans? Go hang you evil person.

  9. The health delivery services in Zambia will remain poor because HEALTH PROFFESIONAL COUNCIL is highly corrupt in registering certain professions that add value to health delivery services .A good example is eye care where certain eye care providers are marginalized. There is a stabling block of doctors who do not match in excellent work outcome in comparison to others so that they can protect their jobs. Shame, we know you. Other countries with the same work force are doing excellent but this country Zambia is a big shame
