Presidential Candidate for the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) Rupiah Bwezani Banda is calling for unity among the party and nation to move forward peacefully now that the High Court has declared him the sole official candidate of the former ruling party.

“I call on all members of the MMD as well as all Zambians who believe a better future is possible to unite together,” Banda said. “Let there be no bitterness or hostility, and let us overcome the things that separate us and embrace everything that unites us in purpose and national solidarity.”

RB’s message of unity follows upon MMD National Secretary Muhabi Lungu’s declaration that Banda has been officially confirmed by the High Court as the sole presidential candidate of the party to contest the January 20 elections.

The MMD will not be deterred by false attempts to create confusion regarding the candidacy by some suspended members. The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has already recognised Rupiah Banda as the candidate on the MMD ticket and as such acknowledged the official letter received from the party secretariat, putting an end to the matter.

“As always, the MMD’s doors are open, and we welcome back any and all party members regardless of past positions or alliances to join in our campaign to lead Zambia safely through this transitional period to deliver a people-driven constitution before 2016,” Banda said. “We have done it before, and we can do it again. This is no time for experiments – it is a time for peace, unity, and determination to change Zambia for the better.”

    • If Mr Bwezani Banda a.k.a RB is elected president back/again, then i wil start believing in the meaning of names. I might just consider another name with another meaning

    • BA WANTANSHI, MULEKWATA UMUCISHI, WHO IS A DRUNKARD? YOUR HH IS AN AGENT OF SATAN THIS WE KNOW VERY WELL. SOME OF US WE STILL REMEMBER WHAT HAPPENED WHEN YOUR FORMER LEADER MAZOKA DIED, THE ONE TRIBE CAME OUT AND STATE THAT IF OUR OWN WILL NOT TAKE OVER THEN THERE WILL BE NO UPND. REGION PARTY. I PITY GUYS LIKE MUTATI, AND OTHERS WHO ARE SEEKING FOR JOBS.

    • What pack of rubbish!Mr Banda,If your call for unity was genuine why did you keep quiet for 3yrs when MMD was being ripped apart from inside and out?As an elderly voice of reasoning we thought you were, everyone expected you rise up in support of Nevers Mumba.

You could’ve sat rebels around the table with their party leader to make them see sense in accepting the outcome of the National Convention as part of democracy. Your Call for unity then would have made a lot of sense.

Instead you chose silence while your successor Nevers constantly fought battles on all fronts.Mr Banda, what you’ve created is a deeply divided MMD in living memory. Forget the youth vote and at least 8 of 10 provinces. In short, you stand no chance whatsoever.

    • If your interest is not material greed that we all know you selfishly miss with nostalgia in your fleeting presidency, tell us your articulated medium to long term plan for both party and Country.I bet none exists.
But sure on the list is :
1.the emancipation of your corrupt son Henry from exile.

2.Guaranteeing limitless medical bills to “you know who”and globetrotting.Especially on trips to some of the exquisite European and American shopping malls for clothes, food, exotic wine and cheese.

3.Fixing your children into positions for use as conduits to syphon public resources.

And I couldn’t agree more with some contributors on this forum that your entire image, hair tip to toe has “complete selfishness” written all over it.

  1. Funny how we tend to fail to read between the lines of the messages in front of us. RB is simply saying let us work together and unite for a better future for you and me. These words from RB should not be taken lightly but instead reflected on our present situations. Feel free to call him names, one thing we can’t take away from him is that this man has wisdom.

  2. HH is in trouble. With RB back North west eastern central is contested leaving PF to win in its stronghold of north, luapula, cb and lusaka. PF will improve its share of votes in eastern and central

    • (HH) was finished the moment RB re-entered the scene and sucked up his fair share of oxygen. (HH) might actually cry on TV this time around. The foreign sponsors who’ve enabled him to fly around like a fly on feases will wring his neck and hang him on horns for misleading them about his perceived popularity. Then it will dawn on him that poisoning Mazoka was not worth it. You can’t buy votes in this modern century. Zambians are wiser and simply reject evil no matter how well you sugar-coat it. There’s no smoke without fire; there’s something eerie about (HH), a sinister cloud which pours rains of distrust, there’s something crooked and unexplained in the biography of this man which Zambians are able to sense. I believe he’s somehow sold part of his soul if not all of it.

  3. Let us enter and re-enter politics for the right reasons Bwana RB. If your intentions are genuine you stand a good chance at coming out 2nd place after PF. Thanks to you, the Under 5 character will be lost somewhere beyond Chipimo and Nawakwi in 5th place. Where’s the pulpit monkey now?

  4. Bt rb wasnt mumba the 1 showin solidarity to u durin ur court cases? And muhabi wsnt mumba the 1 who appointed u as sg,against all odds?

  5. I thank God for loving Zambia by bringing RB back. Such wise words from a humble man with vast experience. Zambians should vote wisely and vote RB. We can’t allow more higher prices in food stuffs and petrol. We can’t allow tribalism to continue, we need unity and economic growth. The only one we can trust to do this is RB. We can’t make the same mistake of 2011. I am now converted and will vote Rupiah Bwezani Banda. All who have wisdom and love Zambia will do the same. NafutiNafuti RB

  6. This time, questions are rife whether MMD will carry Eastern Province with Lungu looking to hotly contest the province. Banda cannot bank on any province to swing the vote. Without the cloud of incumbence, I see the election being hard for him. But that said, his numbers will be better than Mumba would have had.

  7. ZAMBIANS ,YOU MEAN U HAVE FORGOTTEN HOW THIS MAN AND HIS MINISTERS ROBBED THE GOVT.HIS CHILDREN ,THE WIFE,
SURELY U WANT THEM TO COMPLETELY FINISH ZAMBIA.

I WOULD RATHER VOTE FOR FRESH BLOOD THAN GET BACK TO MY VOMIT.

    VOTE EDGAR LUNGU

    VIVA EL2015

  8. “To deliver a people-driven constitution before 2016”, am not buying that one. Mr.RB you had 3 years to deliver a constitution but you didn’t.

  9. Edgar Lungu IS THE RIGHT CANDIDATE FOR NOW. Take it or leave it. The sky is full of this handwriting. The hottest contest will be the 2016 one. This one is just transitional. People ,u complained of RB HAVING looted the nation, what has changed now? Were u accusing him falsely? You accused his children of being thieves , are you saying now the stealing is over. If indeed you accused this family falsely then you were very unfair. But if it was true , why vote for this family then? What has changed of them then? Not good to accuse people falsely.

Politically, Edgar is better placed for the game.

  10. That RB wants to come back to rule Zambian again is somewhat strange to me. The man is crooked, his children are all crocked, his wife perhaps, equally ‘poisoned’ too…

There was a story of how his son Henry opened up an account in Singapore for Nigerian conmen to deposit money purported to be for Zambian oil, what has become of this case? What about the other son’s deals with an Italian company that was supposed to Tar the Pedical, what’s happened to this case and many more, too numerous to mention? Is this man normal really to say he wants to come back and we are saying; YES nabwele? What’s happening to us Zambians really you mean, there are no other capable leaders to take over from President Sata? Bushe kanshi chili shani uko ku Zed?

  11. Impiya mwaibaubwingi batata imwetamwakwata nensoni u’ve stolen hugh amounts of money u can’t even feel shy u think now tht mr Sata is dead u’re free wait we elect the new president and see wht will be happening to u

  12. RB admin killed Barotse citizens. You will share votes with Vodka Lungu in eastern. MMD learn to read the mood of the nation and the times. Nevers would have managed a few votes from christian community, CB, north, Lusaka and other areas. RB belongs to extinct independence politicians.
