Share

Government has handed over the Zambia-China Mulungushi Textiles company assets to the new proprietors, the Mohammed Enterprises Tanzania Limited (MELT) company.

The assets include, among them include land, machinery, plant and plot number 2419 of the Zambia-China Mulungushi Textiles Limited in Kabwe.

The handover ceremony took place at the company’s premises yesterday and conducted by company secretary, Jeremiah Sinkende.

And ZCMT deputy General Manager, Glynis Chipika, signed the handover certificate on behalf of the Zambian government, while Cosmas Mtesigwa, MELT company Director, signed on behalf of MELT Limited Company.

Col Chipika described the handover ceremony as the climax and historic moment for Zambia, stating that the journey of the handover process had not been easy from the time the process started off in July, 2014 when the lease was signed.

And receiving the handover and takeover certificate, MELT limited Director, Cosmas Mtesigwa, expressed happiness in receiving the documents and assured the government for the company’s commitment in carrying out the works which would commence right away.

Mr Mtesigwa said his company already had engineers on the ground to start the rehabilitations and replacing of new equipment in readiness for processing of the plant in about three months’ time.

  1. iwe chipika, don’t be excited like a grade 7 pupil making it to grade 8.monitor these guys closely.there coleagues bought KTZ in kafue and named it african textiles.they went on to strip all the machinery and take to tanzania on pretext of repairs and today the machine is working at niza textiles whilst ktz is in ruins.same will apply to these guys niza textiles has given then sleepless nights hence that stunt.its not about genuine investing

    • @Zondiwe you claims make very sad reading. Why do people treat each other so unfairly. Shame on all those involved if this truly was the case.

    • True. I remember dealing with these guys at one time. They pretended to be in debt up to their necks when in reality it was a lame excuse to start stripping Kafue Textiles of all the machinery. Crooked indeed especially that huge one, won’t mention names.
This Mohammed guy has become rich through manufacturing, I am not one to judge if his wealth is ill-gotten but I will say that it will be such a shame if he does the same to M.T . He seems like a shrewd business man. He is one to emulate.
      *****

    • Thanks for the data. We shall monitor them VERY CLOSELY to make sure they don’t do what they may have done wen MMD was in charge.
Mind you this is PF and we mean business. We had promised to have that factory running in the run up to 2011 elections. You can now see .
More reason why we are continuing after Jan 20

  2. All these excitement with no data to give us ….how much has Muhammed bought the plant, what so special about MELT do they produce niche textile products to overcome the high costs of production in Zambia?
What’s wrong with journalism in Zambia are they just as dull as the politicans they get statements from?

  3. Assuming there has been a value for money transfer of this going concern, a good move on the part of whoever. Tanzania his been long known for making good fabric (Chitenge and stuff), it’s a African & neighbouring country and generally the Tanzanians are not shrewd human beings. Jobs might be created in Kabwe and things might start getting back to the vibrancy the city once had. Use the proceeds of the sale wisely, improving the medical services so that another president does not die in a foreign hospital and improve schools to educate the Kabovas we are sending to State House. Am excited for Kabwe I might even come to join MELT a Colour Chemist or have a role in R&D to make best Chitenges on the continent. I like this partnership with ba Mwachusa. PRAISE WHERE IT’S DUE.

  4. Just like that. Well that’s it because the penitential Zedians with enough money to invest in such business wants to be Politicians, get in GOVT and suck it.

    • infact if am not mistaken, METL in tanzania have go no textile mill, this is their first project.they are more into food production and home consumables.anyway am very sceptical about this deal to say the least.

    • HH claims has the money, why did he not look at improving such facilities and provide employment to Zambians? such small matters are a good show of patriots who claim to have moneys.

    • @ Ben, had HH or any Zambian entrepreneur tried to invest in Mulungushi Textiles we both know the story would have been different as witch hunting about source of capital and the pull-him-down syndrome would have been the order of the day. Growth of businesses run by indigenous Zambians are under threat of envy and no local support thus it is safer to have foreigners run the investment economy until Zambians mature and learn to appreciate their own.

  5. This is good news that finally our defunct Mulungushi Textiles has been handed over to the new investor. We only hope and pray the new owners will give priority to locals in terms of jobs because so many people are jobless and that Kabwe has been a ghost town in a long time. We also want to see at least a shopping Mall set up in Kabwe, ba Pick-n-Pay sure you cant put a store!!

Civic leaders please initiate investments to would-be investors!! At least now we seem to have pro-active leaders at the council who are thinking of developing Kabwe and we trust you are capable of doing more than this!

  6. Judging by the number of Zambian politicians wearing Nigerian cloth, you understand why the textiles industry is a failure in Zambia.

The Gov ‘t needs to copy President Kaunda’s strategy to encourage growth in our Industries. ‘Buy Zambian Goods’ and limit the amount of foreign imports where we can make our own. We are very talented Print designers and the old Kafue textiles wasn’t …..thaaaaat baaaad!! Maybe the colour in our Chitenges, faded a bit too quickly…..but it was ours and we were able to express our creativity and generate some income, and hire people.

This Mohammad Textiles, is it not all Saris and Jijabs? Can they do Zambian Chitenge (probably with Muslim images on them)?!

Sometimes we can only look at our gov’t and wonder…….!

  7. How can Edgar deliver on President Sata’s vision if he can not even deliver a simple speech to a church gathering or a simple speech to his followers at a rally? I really wonder whether some Zambians still have brains! They can follow anything for anything. These are lost souls and they need both spiritual and political deliverance. Give the presidency to Miles Sampa. At least he seems quite more organized than EL. What will happen after 20th Jan 2015 when you hear that EL has lost? For him, he will just go to Chawama and drink his head off. What about the PF party? That will be the end otherwise the party will have to find another president to stand in between that time and the next convention.

    • That is the problem. Do you think you deliver simple speeches in churches? That is why we still can not experience God’s interventions in our country because we think churches deliver simple messages. Some one is being honest of not being a priest, it has become a problem. Nevers left the church and now he cant run MMD even after delivering “great” speeches in church

  8. Like Zondiwe said, II hope they don’t strip off what remains of the equipment in the name of rehabilitation of equipment and then transport it all to Tanzania. Exactly the same thing happen to Nchanga Open Pit when the so called new investor bought the mines, dismantled all the expensive earthmoving equipment that they bought along with the mines and then shipped them to Australia where they have other investment, assembled the equipment, and continued using them, all under our noses, and then turned round and said they were pulling out of KCM because there was no futher there. And yet they still made a profit. Did we learn any lessons from that?? Or do we ever learn? I just hope this time measures are in place to stop these infestors from raping my country and then leaving us for dead.

  9. Hope we wont lose out like we did on Kapiri Glass Factory (KGF) where the new owner stripped it of all the machinery. Now vendors sell imported glass a few metres from the desolate KGF.

When did the Zambian government tender the sale of this important Chitenge producing factory and who else were the bidders?

Zambia prides itself in wearing chitenge which our Siamese twin across calls ‘chizambia’. How come non of the Zambian business people did not buy?
