Opposition UPND president Hakainde Hichilema is today Sunday the 14th of December expected to conduct what has been termed by UPND media team as a campaign-defining rally in Kasama.
This follows the past 6 days that have seen presidential candidate Hakainde Hichilema campaigning in Muchinga, Northern and Luapula Provinces alongside the Honourable Felix Mutati, UPND National Chairperson Mutale Nalumango, and former Minister of Finance Dr Katele Kalumba, to name a few.
According to UPND, the delegation has drawn crowds across the regions, in defiance of past claims that the party only has a regional support base. Mr Hichilema has been welcomed by a number of traditional leaders and chiefs during his tour who have honoured him with their counsel and guidance.
UPND further said that Mr Hichilema and his entourage have delivered the message to Zambians everywhere that they are campaigning for a united Zambia and to move Zambia forward together.
Along the way they have taken the time to listen to people’s concerns and needs. Recurring themes have been the struggle farmers currently face due to late or non-payment of what they are owed by government, the rising cost of living, and the need for government support to help unlock local business opportunities and kick-start local economies. During the rally, which will be broadcast live on Muvi TV and Radio Mano, Mr Hichilema is expected to again restate his major policy commitments in response to these problems.
Former First Lady Maureen Mwanawasa is set to attend the rally as she continues to throw her full weight behind Mr Hichilema’s candidacy for the 20 January 2015 election. Mrs Mwanawasa, who has been campaigning alongside Mr Hichilema at several of his rallies already, is preparing to set off on the campaign trail on Monday to engage civil society groups and leaders. After joining the Kasama rally she will travel on to the Copperbelt, before Mr Hichilema is expected there later this month.

Yesterday , UPND President Hakainde Hichilema, Lunte MP the Honourable Felix Mutati, former First Lady Maureen Mwanawasa, National Chairperson Mutale Nalumango and entourage were, according to UPND, received by large crowds in Chinsali and Mpika Districts where they addressed rallies.
During the visit a number of PF and MMD officials resigned from their respective parties to join the opposition UPND. Leading the PF members was Provincial Information Secretary Mulenga Mwananshiku and PF Shiwangandu Chair lady Stefenia Malama who said PF was Sata and Sata was PF, and so the party died with him.
Speaking during the rallies, Lunte MP Felix Mutati told the crowds that as opposition MPs, they had sat down and scrutinised the people vying for the presidency and concluded that UPND president Hakainde Hichilema is the only suitable candidate to develop the country.
Mutati said Zambia faces numerous economic challenges and needs a strong team of proven economic managers such as Mr. Hichilema to move the country forward.
And the UPND leader Mr. Hichilema said he is in politics as a missionary to improve the economy of the country, unlike others that were serving personal interests.
In Mpika, Mr. Hichilema committed to improve the operations of TAZARA through meaningful dialogue with the Tanzanian government so that the company can be self-sustaining.
He also reiterated that he will work to reduce the price of fertiliser so that peasant farmers can have access to cheaper inputs, grow more and reduce food prices.
The UPND leader also committed to improving the tourism sector in Mpika so that local communities can benefit from wildlife as opposed to the current situation where only foreigners were benefiting.
He also emphasised that the campaign is based on the platform of unity across political divides and called on all well-meaning citizens to campaign and vote for the UPND so as to transform the economy of the country.
“When you combine the various skills that will form part of our team, such as Felix Mutati, Mutale Nalumango and others, you can be rest assured that the country will be in safe hands. My integrity is also what I bring to the political arena and I am in it to fix the economy,” he said.
Mr. Hichilema thanked the people of Chinsali and Mpika for coming out in large numbers and listen to his message.
After the rally, Mr. Hichilema and his entourage toured Mpika market and mingled with traders before driving to Chief Chikwanda’s palace where he was welcomed by the traditional leader.
Mr. Hichilema assured the traditional leader that he will never meddle in traditional affairs and he will respect and value the wise counsel from traditional leaders. Chief Chikwanda said he was touched by the strong and powerful message delivered by Mr. Hichilema.

You do not need majority in Parliament to be a successful president in Zambia. The presidency in Zambia enjoys so much executive powers such that you can push your agenda regardless of the number of MPs you have in parliament. Past presidents in Zambia failed to achieve certain developmental projects simply because they were not interested in doing so.

Life expectancy in Zambia is around 40 due to: poor medical facilities, high cost of living, late payment of farmers thereby inflicting abject poverty on farmers, very poor retirement packages as most cash is used in campaigns, reckless Govt spending part of which arises from induced by-elections, too much plundering of nat. resources due to weak governance system (weak ACC, weak police, etc), where permission has to be sought from head of state b4 a minister is investigated. Country men & women, let us unite and join HH, the son of the soil, the son of our motherland, the son of Africa. We need to redeem our Zambia, redeem our motherland.
