The Treatment Advocacy and Literacy Campaign has written to Health Minister Joseph Kasonde challenging government to state its position on claims that the Sondashi Formula is a cure for HIV.
In a letter dated January 07 2015 addressed to Dr Kasonde, the Treatment Advocacy and Literacy Campaign Country Coordinator Felix Mwanza said people living with HIV would like to seek clarity over claims by Dr Sondashi that the SF 2000 cures HIV.
It said the concerns comes in the wake of TALC’s challenge to Dr Sondashi to stop telling Zambians that he will distribute the SF 2000 free of charge once elected President of Zambia in the forthcoming presidential election.
‘As an organisation that represents people living with, we cautioned members of the public not to be excited by what Dr Sondashi was claiming because his SF 2000 has not been proven to be a cure for HIV. However, today there has been a statement issued by a Political Assistant from Dr Sondashi’s party stating that the SF 2000 has been proven in the United States of America as well as South Africa to be a cure for HIV,’ the letter read in part.
It continued, ‘We find it difficult to understand especially now that the United States and South Africa have also been mentioned to have proven that SF 2000 cures HIV. Moreover, Dr Sondashi and his associates are claiming that there are people in Zambia who have been cured of HIV after taking the SF 2000.’
‘Our writing to you is to ask you to state Government’s position regarding the SF 2000 in the wake of revelations and claims that it is a cure for HIV and people in Zambia have been cured from HIV. We further ask your office to find on behalf of the Zambians from the United States Government and South Africa respectively, the countries that have been purported to have proved that the SF 2000 is a cure for HIV whether this is indeed true.’
The letter also demanded that Ambassadors of the United States and South Africa in Zambia furnish TAC with more details regarding these claims and revelations from Dr Sondashi and his associates.
‘As an organisation that advocates for people living with HIV interests, we always encourage our people on treatment to disclose and come out in the open if they wish and we have challenged Dr Sondashi before to parade those that have been cured from HIV and he has failed to do that. Instead, he keeps giving excuses that they fear being victimised or they would like to remain confidential about it.’
The letter read, ‘We respect and appreciate that each individual has teh right to confidentiality but we are not going to be taken for a ride and risk our people to start taking drugs whose efficacy has not been proven by authoritative institutions such as the World Health Organisation or indeed our own Zambian government.’
It continued, ‘ as stated before, we have to put it on record that we are not in any way against the clinical trials going ahead except that we have a duty to protect people living with HIV on treatment from many unapproved medicines that may endanger their lives especially when unorthodox methods and procedures are being exhibited.’
People go ku ng’anga to get some herbs. Why don’t go to President Sondashi as well, is he too expensive?

TALC please concentrate on telling your members to take scientifically proven drugs. As of now, you already know that the SF 2000 is not scientifically proven as a cure for HIV.
If it was a cure, Sondashi would have been a very rich man and would have been awarded a Nobel prize for his discovery. He wouldn’t have been conducting a lethargic campaign just to be President of Zambia.
There is no category for Nobel prize in ethnobotany which is practised by Ludwig Sondashi. But there are many herbal medicines used to cure or reduce effects of diseases such as diabetes, flu, haemorroids, etc. So the Sondashi formula is not new. It may relieve some symptoms of HIV. Remember that HIV does not kill per se. The body’s immune system is weakened and overwhelmed by secondary infections which ‘may be’ cured by Sondashi formula. There is no licence for herbal medicines unless one is able to isolate the active ingredient using a scientific process. Even wild animals do self-medicate by selectively eating some herbs and grass to cure ailments. Sorry nothing for Sondashi and let us move on!

Thanks for your comment. Mr. (or is it Dr.) Sondashi would be a very rich man as Bill Gates is dangling over $20 million to anyone who will discover the cure for AIDS. He would even denounce his Zambian citizenship and live in the States and earn more money in royalties for his formula, instead of trying to fight a battle he knows he cannot win here in Zambia as the next president.

It is always suprising how Zambians rejected Sondashi yet other countries embraced him. Gen. Dr. Chituwo and Dr. Kasonde should have provided Sondashi with the platform to test his medicines. There is no cure for HIV and SF 2000 may perhaps improve some of the symptoms associated with the virus – though I’ve not seen any scientific evidence of this from Dr. Sondashi. His trials have not been published in any credible journal, not even the Zambia Medical Association Journal that has an open door policy for all manuscripts.

About Sondashi F2000 I dont know. I happen to call their office to find out how much it was. I was shocked. I was told by this nice voice that Powder is K300.00 weekly and Capsules K400.00 weekly. The medicine has to be taken atleast for a MINIMUM of 6 months but one can even go for a Year. I did my simple calculations and it revealed that for six months one would be required to pay K7,200.00 for the powdered one and K9,600.00 for the capsule one. And if one was to be advised that you take it for one year, you will be talking of K14,400.00 and K19,200.00 respectively, to be able to get cured. Now, how many Zambians can surely afford this mwebantu. Why not charge South Africa and the Europeans that much than deny your fellow Zambian a chance to live happpily again. concerned.

Well expressed Felix. These quacks with dubious titles are a stain on our country. There are international norms for conducting research on new interventions, including medicines and equipment. Mr Sondashi has not by any stretch of imagination met any of the criteria needed to claim that his concoction has any efficacy. What he has preyed on is the ignorance of our people, the prevalence of HIV, its lethality in our environment and the lack of established rules and procedure for introducing such concoctions in our country. Yes, AIDS is not normally the primary cause of death, it is the facilitator. What we have is a situation where a witchdoctor like Mr Sondashi has exploited his previous status as a politician in UNIP to trick the gullible. There are no published papers referring to SF.

Please Zambians, it is NOT a question of being jealous. Ludwig Sondashi cannot patent his formula because he does not know the active ingredient, nor can he explain the mode of action of his concoction. African herbs formulas are family secrets and are passed on by oral tradition. There is usually a small component called ‘ICHISHIMBA’. Without this unknown element, the concoction is not potent. Sondashi will not tell you from which tree or shrub he brewed his stuff. Please do not take his concoction in excess, it has not passed toxicological and mutagenicity tests.
